My wife and I love going to timeshare presentations. Get a great suite for a cheap price. I set my watch for 90 mins, when they come with the price I already have the website for people selling their timeshare at the same resort. IF they can beat that price (which they can't) I will consider it. That usually ends the conversation right there.

I mean seriously, she says that they bought it the first time because they kept them in there so long they just signed to get out! Are you kidding me? You have the freedom to get up and leave wherever you’re at unless you’re in prison. I’ve been to these before, I’ve listen to their garbage, I felt their pressure, once the 90 minutes is up I collect my free gift and I walk out. I don’t care if they say they’re going to talk to their manager one more time I know where the doors at and I know how to get a taxi (or Uber now a days)

    Remember a few things about timeshare presentations;
    - you will end up paying for that gift with your time if nothing else.
    - a reps loyalty is to their commission, not to you or the resort.
    - many work on commission only, they are highly motivated to make the sale no
    matter what.
    - no wonder many are ready to say anything, promise anything, invent anything.
    - you'll hear a lot about luxury and relaxation. They'll spend hours
(literally) showing you the amenities of resort and suites. Granite counter
tops? You got it. Jacuzzi tubs? Absolutely. Impeccable housekeeping? It's
    yours.
    - you will NOT hear them tell you about rising maintenance fees, special
assessments, scheduling challenges, or how hard it is to get out of the
    agreement.
    - they also don't like to mention the rescission period. That's the cooling off
period during which the buyer can cancel their timeshare without penalty. Any
money you pay will likely be held in escrow until the end of the rescission
period. However, once the cooling off period ends, you're locked in and your
money is theirs. So, you can see why they might want to keep that information
    to themselves.
    - I’m sure some people have bought a timeshare contract just to get out of the
presentation and get back on vacation!!

I got this timeshare a few weeks ago. I went to my family because they promised us free food and 160 dollars. We knew what kinda meeting it was and we wanted to go because we wanted they money. We were prepared for everything. We wouldn't sign anything. A guy take us to a nice restaurant and started the brainwash. He said how amazing it was to have a property in Orlando and how amazing the new time share model is compared to the old one (he claims Brazilian companies offer old type of time share and it's not worth). We ended the lunch and we went to the resort. He showed us the apartment, a beautiful apartment by the way and started to show us how the time share works. He told us we would have some points and we could spend them all over the world. At this time we were convinced that we would not sign anything. But then he showed us a biannual plan, 74k points that we could spend and every 2 years we get another 74k. He was showing us a book with every single place we could go with those points. He said the most expensive was around 9k. He said we could get money with it because we are not the type of family who's traveling every year. He called another guy, maybe his Superior and this guy told us a lie. He said he was a rich guy in Brazil and he got fired. He went to the US with no money, washing dishes and saw this same time share as an opportunity to change his life, he bought one and started to make money with it and now he has more than 20. We got convinced that this whole thing was a great deal and we signed the contract. We paid 2800 dollars I think and we would pay 284 during 84 months. 3 days after we got back in Brazil and I started to search on the web about this time share and I saw people complaining about a lot of things. One of them said the cheapest place she found was 85k points. So we were basically paying for them a thing than we can't use because we only have 74k points. So we read the contract and we could cancel within 10 days after the purchase. We wrote the letter and sent to the right address. We didn't have any contact or confirmation of the cancellation so we went to the web again and started to search what was going on. A guy said he sent a letter and they just ignored him and if we wanted to get this damn thing cancelled we would have to get a lawyer. Look what a mess! We called our bank and told them what was going on and they asked us some documents proving that we were right. We sent the contract, the letter, the document proving that the letter got on the right address within 10 days and they took control over the situation. 2 days after they sent my mom an email confirming the cancellation. After all this my advice is: never go to this kinda meeting unless you wanna get a timeshare. They do a brainwash on you. I could search this timeshare at the meeting couldn't I? If I did that I'd see how bad this fucking thing was and we wouldn't sign anything. But they washed my brain, they washed everyone's brains! That's it. Sorry for any mistake I made on this text, English isn't my 1st language

I have multiple sclerosis and have a hard time remembering and processing information and thats how I make sure I can't get screwed, The following monday I filed reports and complaints to the Better Business Bureau, The department of disability, And my lawyer. 4 months later they were shut down and their properties were also old to Westgate, Stay away from them people it is a scam!

I don’t understand anyone who can’t say No. They offered us a free breakfast at the country club and a bus trip to Key West for $20.00 for 2 people. The trip really interested us so we went for the sales talk. We made sure to take our own car so we didn’t have to depend on the salesperson. We sat through the whole thing and kept saying NO. The trip to Key West was great but we vowed never to go to another sales meeting. Pure Hell!

Went there and was ready to say no many time even before the meeting. We decided to continue with the brain washing experience in Orlando. My pregnant wife last month was complaining of feeling bad and they continued to waist time know how she was feeling. I was absolutely furious. They offered 35,000 initially, then the manager comes with a 12,000 time share.I obviously said no. I said this was scam to my wife. They lied they asked me to continue to get my gift with the next person. So we went and they asked me for 2500, I laughed and said they are willing to collect anything a this time and this time share ain’t worth the price. Had an absolutely terrible experience the time I stayed there. I wish the people who continue to go there say no like my wife and I. Will never request to stay there.

Wow, I knew RCI was bad, and I knew about the up-selling, but the results of doubling down is unreal. From a different angle, RCI rents their properties as hotels first and foremost, and owners are left with the off season scraps. The relatively small Jokey Club in Las Vegas has been selling timeshares for 40 years, you would think occupancy would be just about full, but there's hotel vacancy year around...

Most timeshares are scams. Maintenance fees start off low and then go up every year. We signed a contract for one in myrtle beach. That night I read over the contract and pulled up reviews on the company. I read that I had 10 days to cancel. When we got home, I typed up a letter to cancel. I faxed and sent a certified letter. Thankfully, they did cancel it and we were refunded the $4500.00 down payment. I would never purchase a timeshare ever again.

I see the issue with everyone who’s been scammed by a timeshare.
The issue is that people are signing contracts based only on the word of the salesperson. This isn’t an app you download and just hit Accept.
You’re signing a legal document and have to read everything and question the salesperson is something is off.
Or just keep paying, i guess.

NY law requires a statement on any ad for a timeshare promotion disclose it is for a timeshare. You can send a complaint to the NY Attorney General if you are from NY. If not, check with your state regulatory agency. Just google who regulates timeshares in Virginia for example.

No one buys anything just to get out of there! And it is 10 days to cancel in Florida not 3 days! 800 most of that was your taxes and closing cost and RCI dues....and did a monthly payment.....

Good information, but really, if you go to a timeshare presentation just say NO. You are only obligated to the time you agreed to hear the presentation. Stick to your guns. After 90 minutes or 2 hours (whatever was stipulated in the offer) let the salesperson know you have fulfilled your obligation and are done. I've done it before, albeit many moons ago...

We bought a timeshare in 1983 it was for a week 2 bedroom. At first it did go good until we got divorced. The wife was going to take it every other year. She didn't and didn't pay any fees so it was me alone. Fast forward RCI changed over to points so my week is not good anymore, I had to buy points or use 2,two, years of my timeshare just to go to my own place where I bought. I told them no, I quit paying everything I got phone calls for about 3 years non stop but I didn't answer the phone. One girl found out she could talk when my outgoing message was on. Anyway after 3 years no one calls, every once in a while I get an out of town call so I call the number back and harass them. DONT BUY A TIMESHARE, their a rip off. Have a nice day

The Vacation Village Colonies at Williamsburg, VA saleswoman Jackie gave us "I'm not supposed to tell you this information" but if we were to hire her close, real estate, friend at Vacation Services International, he could easily sell our other timeshare with Westgate to pay for our purchase at Colonies. She said he could also sell our "bonus week" we would receive with a Colonies purchase to take care of the bill and the maintenance fee. We believed her. When confronting Colonies on these illegal practices, Colonies argues we had seven days to back out. They also argue that if we had informed the Closer that Jackie told us we could sell our Westgate easily, the Closer would have stopped the sale. Really? These people have broken Virginia law which forbids bait and switch tactics as well as fraud for profit tactics to make a sale.

I say this because someone told me one time that he owned a condo in Florida but he eventually described it as a timeshare. Timeshares are NOT fractional ownership.

We were not the only ones we were there for 8 hours and yes was hungry and had kids at the hotel that were hungry as well.
