Nice to hear the philosophical aspect of your work . Finding there can be more than just the engineering behind a repair can bring one to appreciate the layers of life. With the new background layout you can start another channel discussing the philosophy of mechanics, sort of the tao of repairs... Anyway thanks for today's thoughts. I really get a lot out of your videos.
That’s a fun idea, I’m usually not too wordy as you know but I honestly had about 4 cups of coffee this morning and was in the mood to chat hah, I appreciate you watching
Appreciate your perspective. As an amateur, getting to the end of a long project is when I'm most likely to rush and make a critical mistake. The impact starts calling my name and a minor problem becomes a major one real quick.
@EuropeanAutoRepair weird it wouldn't let me comment....thought I was blocked...looked around, am I being punked? Stay well. Right now exploring 2015 VW Jetta SE 1.8T - (EPC on stomp) leaning towards boost pressure sensor fouled. I'm just a dad trying to keep the fleet moving. My son is in school in Arizona and we live in NY
I’ve had other people say that same thing about not being able to comment, not sure what that’s about, I’d definitely scan it before going any further, if it idles nice and you only notice it’s down on power when you accelerate might be something as simple as an ignition coil
I disagree . If your flat rate do you get paid to slow down? To Clean ? To double check bolt torques . No. Been in the trade for 40 years , tonnes of tools . Yes it does bite you but my boss doesn't care . Why should I ? IF he did he would pay me to clean and make sure of what is done , so would the customer. This trade is cut throat . Compromises have to be made . If i worked on gravy jobs all day i would not complain, who has that? I just did a 4 hour job that took 16 . Evaporator on a Volvo . Many times are the same tacomas Lexus etc . I busted my back , did I slow, down ? No ! just a lot stuff didn't make it back .yes it probably is coming back but customer satisfaction is not a priority on flat rate . Service writer gave me this job and laughed . I laugh back when it comes back . If you're an apprentice or paid straight time , take all the time you need . BUT flat rate is a whole different game . You have to know how,and when you can cut corners , and never slow down .

Great advice! Some guys tend to rush through everything and the end result is a poor repair.
Thanks man

Haha oh man, the call of the impact can be strong but you must resist at times lol, yeah can’t tell you how many times I’ve got in trouble like that

I understand what you are saying, the dealership mechanic experience is more like what you are describing
