Brendan Schaubs gotta give daddy Rogan the talk now. Schaub:"How do you think you'd do against Dave Chapelle in stand up?" Joe: "I think people would be surprised" Schaub: "Really? I think he'd fk you up"
I've always felt like Joe is such a fan of stand up that he spent most of his career figuring out how to emulate a stand up comic preventing him from developing his own unique style as a comedian. The act outs, stool humping, exaggerated mannerisms, etc are all things he thinks a comic would do hence why he relies so much on it. He always comes off like someone studying for a role in a movie playing a stand up comedian than an actual comic.
great point! looks like took something from each comedian he liked. took the shouting (sam kinison or bobcat goldthwait, for example). the only thing he didn't take is actual humour/being funny. to comedy, joe is what dwayne johnson is to acting.
Yea you hit the nail on the head, like he technically performs very well as a comedian but it just comes off as forced and theatrical. Like the guy in the video i use to find Joe hilarious sometimes in his podcast before i even realised he was actually also a comedian
If they don’t laugh… that return trip to the podcast doesn’t happen. Honestly, does anyone know those guys for any reason BESIDES them being on the podcast?
If you listen to Burr's podcast you can tell that it comes naturally to him. He can immediately make a joke about any topic. Half of the time Rogan doesn't even get the jokes that his guests are telling (the first Theo Von episode, for example).
Other examples of people who come off as naturally funny, Patrice who would come up with the best bits on the fly, also Nick Mullen and Shane Gillis can do this too. Joe has always been a very rigid entertainer.
I have been a listener for years. I love his show. Has brought joy to my life. I agree with this. He seems to have a great memory to recall interesting information and tell good stories. Asks great questions . Best interviewer around . However countless times he misses the joke, grounds it and the guy making the joke will follow.

With all these things being known about him, I think most comedians (out of respect) decide to not criticize his comedy.
He avoids criticism because of the massive following he has that he got from his podcast. Not comedy. He did “comedy” for twenty years and no one gave two shits, rightfully so. He’s a total hack. Ripping off kinison for decades now and doing a piss poor job at it.
Damn you just opened my eyes, I always seen Joe Rogan as a decent comedian. I felt that something was off about his stand up but his podcast is amazing. Now that I've seen this it all makes sense
I have little to say other than this is an interesting video. Joe Rogan is not funny, but he has the ability to tell really good stories. There's that.
Most of us Rogan fans won't argue about his comedy being terrible. I've watched his last 3 specials in a room full of people and he got 2 or laughs each time. Usually at the halfway point everyone wants to find a different comedian to watch.
Really enjoyed this and yeah i think you should do more deep dives like this. Maybe more about other comedians and how come up with their material and maybe different styles of comedy or something. But keep up the good work man!
He’s on par with late night hosts on television. He understands comedy but can’t replicate it. Burr said it best when he vouched for Rogan on being in the broadcasting HOF. He’s magic in front of a microphone and can make almost and interview interesting.
GROUND LEVEL CREW HERE! Man I LOVE your videos I've been saying this about Joe for years! All your takes ate stuff I pickup on as well! Some I was suprised I miss though, I love your channel so much! Don't ever change just do it the way your doing it now and you'll blow up!!!
I really enjoyed the video, man. It is a new short-documentary format, but you still keep it in that podcast cringe category you got us used to. Keep up the good work! PS. I think it is mind-blowing to see how the greats are making their comedy. In a sence it shows that Pryor was perhaps a larger influence on modern comed than Carlin. Carlin had a tempo, a particular wording style that demanded being written down and done to the word, whereas Pryor was more free-flowing so to speak, with only ideas written down, to add onto while riffing.
I personally think of Rohan more as an entertainer than anything. I once heard this distinction made for a replacement vocalist in a band being more of an entertainer than a singer.
"Wasn't" really funny, lol. I'm going to be honest, Joe, Theo, Segura, and Bert all have said things to make me laugh, but I wouldn't pay to see any of them like I would Jeselnik (Idk how to spell it) or Burr. Overall, no one in the Roganverse is all that great at stand up.
I only disagree about Burr. I get a genuine laugh out of him, particularly with his older stuff. But yeah, I completely skip the comedian episodes these days. They invariably suck. The only ones I enjoy are Burr, Joey Diaz, Tim Dillon and Shane Gillis. The protect our park’s episodes can be ok, but it’s really just a bunch of dudes getting drunk and talking over each other. Edit: sorry I reread your comment and saw you like Burr. I completely agree.
New to your channel. Love this one so much. Stand up has been one of my favorite forms of expression/ suicide. The way Joe Rogan talks about stand-up makes him seem like a poser each time he digs into it.
No for a comedian and no for a podcaster. I've never once thought he was funny in any way. It's even worse than that, though. He is actively UNFUNNY. He would be way better on his podcasts if he never attempted humor of any kind. It's truly baffling that he stumbled his way into comedy. But that goes for a lot of comedians. The guys in Legion of Skanks and Kill Tony are other examples. But there are loads of unfunny individuals who will laugh at Kill Tony. So, I guess there will always be an audience for terrible humor.
His true talent is to grasp lots of different subjects and go toe to toe with experts of their fields, his hunger for knowledge is admirable and he makes these interesting subjects digestible to the masses, i never listen to the podcasts with other comics on, id much rather learn about some shiz. But hes a pretty good impressionist too
I saw Joe Rogan last year and his current set is genuinely funny. I laughed the whole show. His work ethic paid off finally. I hope he releases a special with it - though on his podcast he's said he's not really interested in doing that
I’ve seen Joe live several times. I think it’s definitely a better experience in a club than watching a Netflix special of his. The joke about the girl guarding the white house will always be funny.
Hes a comic for sure. His ability to do standup is up to the average person to decide. But it cant be denied that he is part of the "comedy community". Influential at that
Joe's greatest trait is in creating a safe environment for interesting people to feel comfortable enough to divulge their passions. He also does comedy.....as a hobby?
Interesting people like Alex Jones, jordan Peterson, Stefan molyneaux, Ben Shapiro, Steven crowder and Gavin McGinnis? Joe Rogan has helped fuxk up an entire generation of young men. And now he’s completely joined the conservative grift machine.
Before everyone and their mother had a podcast I really enjoyed Seinfeld Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee because it really helped me understand a lot of what goes into “comedian brain.” Jerry may not be the most brilliant standup ever but he’s a student of the craft and when he talks shop with other good comedians you really get an insight into how situational comics are always looking at things just a bit differently. I think the problem with Rogen stable of comedians is that they think “comedian brain” is just the ability to turn anything into a joke and ignore social convention but miss the part where you take it from a unique or a original perspective.
I view Rogan as more of a humorist than a comedian and I think that’s what makes him a great podcaster/interviewer. He can come up with funny comments and entertaining stories but not enough of them for a comedy special.
There has been way more funny moments on his podcast mainly due to his guests then he has ever had in his standup..... I gave him plenty of chances and literally never been able to get more than 5 mins in. I've genuinely been confused as to how he got considered a household name in the comic world
Seen him live twice, his openers were alot funnier than him both sets. When he takes the stage you get a overwhelming feel that everyone around you are just fans of his podcast or ufc. That's the only reason he sells out shows. He might be one of the best when it comes to talking to guests and podcasts. But when I hear other comedians say one of the best in comedy my head spins. Not even close
No, he never was. I used to think I was a fan of his comedy when I saw his first 2 specials back in the day. Joe rogan live from 2006 and Talking Monkeys in Space in 2009 I think. I really enjoyed those specials and I got tricked into thinking Joe was funny. In reality he talked about a lot of weird and interesting topics you didn't really hear mentioned anywhere else. Especially before any podcasts you didn't hear anybody talk about shit like dmt or Aliens building the pyramids. This was PRE Ancient Aliens. Joe is undoubtedly a great podcaster, interviewer and speaker. But he's not a very funny guy. His stand up was just entertaining and occasionally he'd say something funny. While he never was a great joke teller, his stand up got him where he is today.
SPOT ON, this is something I've been saying for years.... Huge fan of comedy since I could understand it. It kinda urks me a bit that he sells out arenas because of his fame Not because of his comedy. He always refers to himself as a comic when in reality he's close to 1B net worth, and his comedy has NOTHING to do with that. Glad this video exists!!! Thank you sir
Was nice to get an explanation of the process, there are a few stand ups who feel very polished, let's call them the Seinfield types where its totally worked out and prepared. Then you have the Chappelle's who keep it more conversational, more flow. @@adambonesaw3689
I agree with you 100% on your opinion of Joe as comedian. I like him on UFC and his podcasts but as a comedian I don't think I'd walk across the street to see him do comedy even if I got in for free. He's also had quite a few friends that used to be regulars on his podcasts that are crappy comedians.
I like Joe Rogan's standup and would pay to see him again. He may not be on the same level as Louis CK and Bill Burr or Dave Chapelle but he's also better than most of the others like Jim Norton, Bert Kreischer, etc. He's a good solid comedian.
It would be funny if they did, but in all honesty I doubt it only because his friends love him. He seems like a great friend and his friends wouldn’t want to participate in something like that. Other comics, not his friends, probably talk about Joe’s standup.
I've now binged my way through about 12 of your videos, and I'm genuinely surprised that Team Coco never comes up. It's possible that it flies under the typical radar, which I can understand. To be honest, I doubt our lists of favorite comedians would have even one name in common. This difference in comedic tastes actually serves as a great metric for fans like myself, showcasing the wide range of humor that exists and how it resonates differently with everyone.
Exactly , to earn a living being a pro comedian you’ve got to be funny even if your jokes aren’t great , you’ve got to have something about you different from the average person, joe Rogan is ten a penny , somebody a decade or two ago told him he’s funny and he’s been in a position with people he knows to get slots or whatever , he’s not natural it’s too forced his act is .

Agreed! The guys who get up on stage with an idea and try to work it out have to be warriors. I liked the way Norm MacDonald described how he would just meander around on stage knowing he had a juicy punchline locked and loaded. The youtube video of Rogan 20+ yrs ago talking to Joey Diaz about Cuban American history was really funny. And recently the joke about Ari Shaffir opening his second special to the "Jaws" music was also hilarious.

Bullseye. Sure he's not the funniest but he uses his platform in a way that mostly benefits comedy ( I give him a pass with Brendan Schuab)
Yeah but that's not a comedian. That's just a "patron of the arts" at best
@@enriquecabrera2137 sure but regardless I think this is why avoids criticism from peers
He avoids criticism because of the massive following he has that he got from his podcast. Not comedy. He did “comedy” for twenty years and no one gave two shits, rightfully so. He’s a total hack. Ripping off kinison for decades now and doing a piss poor job at it.
He’s the one person David Lucas won’t roast. Also probably because he knows it would shatter Joe’s ego.
Chapelle, Burr, and C.K .. easily on my mount rushmore of comedians.
Stanhope maybe?
Agree but not Burr, his angry guy character is so annoying
🐷
Norm Macdonald.
Damn you just opened my eyes, I always seen Joe Rogan as a decent comedian. I felt that something was off about his stand up but his podcast is amazing. Now that I've seen this it all makes sense
He wore actual shoulder pads when he was a kid...that in itself is hilarious!
I was never a huge fan of Joe’s stand up, but I love him as a person and love JRE
You "love someone as a person" that you've never met in real life?
@@StewartLucrative i love you as a person man. Feel like you needed to hear that.
I have little to say other than this is an interesting video. Joe Rogan is not funny, but he has the ability to tell really good stories. There's that.
Joe Rogan imitating a moose at the end. Made it all worth it
Most of us Rogan fans won't argue about his comedy being terrible. I've watched his last 3 specials in a room full of people and he got 2 or laughs each time. Usually at the halfway point everyone wants to find a different comedian to watch.
Thats rough
This was great. Just discovered this channel. All well said. And interesting with Louis, Chappelle, and Bill Burr.
I cant get enough of this channel
Joe isn't funny, he's famous.
People want to look at him at this point. They tolerate his stand up
Really enjoyed this and yeah i think you should do more deep dives like this. Maybe more about other comedians and how come up with their material and maybe different styles of comedy or something. But keep up the good work man!
Thanks bro, appreciate it
Never found him funny, but he is an incredible podcaster and a genuine human being with a big heart.
To each their own. George Carlin wrote his whole act out word for word.
Carlin never made me laugh once, he made silly faces and voices but was just preachy and pretentious enough to disguise it. Super overrated.
@redacted9723 that speaks volumes about who you are as a person.
@@redacted9723whaaaaaaat?! I have never heard someone say that George hasn’t made them laugh. That was mind blowing to read.
@@Nik-rx9rjwell, to each their own
He’s on par with late night hosts on television. He understands comedy but can’t replicate it. Burr said it best when he vouched for Rogan on being in the broadcasting HOF. He’s magic in front of a microphone and can make almost and interview interesting.
I would agree with that.
Thanks bro, glad to have you
Agreed. His stand up isn't funny but on his podcast he can give me a little chuckle once in a while.
I’ve been following you for a few months and this has been my favorite so far. Solid peek into the mindset of the legends… and Joe’s 😂
Jeselnik🔥
Yeah I think his funny level is your funny friend. Not standup funny.
Spoiler Alert...NO!
@@CommissionerLofithe random person walking down the street is funnier then him
I only disagree about Burr.
The ending scared the shit out of me 😂😂😂
No for a comedian, yes for a podcaster
No for a comedian, less and less for a podcaster as time goes on.
I swear Sean Strickland will make a better comedian than him
He made Joe look like a total npc on his own podcast
His true talent is to grasp lots of different subjects and go toe to toe with experts of their fields, his hunger for knowledge is admirable and he makes these interesting subjects digestible to the masses, i never listen to the podcasts with other comics on, id much rather learn about some shiz. But hes a pretty good impressionist too
What knowledge, he reads info on Google and just repeats it. And what impressions has he ever done besides making gorilla noises
he doesn't go toe to toe with experts. he platforms lunatics.
Going toe to toe with experts in their fields is not what Joe is doing on his podcast. That I know.
@@flakeytown5561 😂 your right, i more mean keeping up with them and asking great questions.
What kind of impressions is he good at? A bear? Gorilla? 🤔 Other than that, I am truly perplexed....
I saw Joe Rogan last year and his current set is genuinely funny. I laughed the whole show. His work ethic paid off finally. I hope he releases a special with it - though on his podcast he's said he's not really interested in doing that
You were probably really drunk.
I do not trust your sense of humor. no way.
Whatever you smoking bro, let me get some
@@Popwarthog you are burnt my friend you do not need any more
It wasn't funny at all. You have awful taste in humor.
If Joe Rogan relied on his comedy to be rich and famous he'd have died from starvation.
The Joe Rogan Autism Experience was a nice touch at the end
I’ve seen Joe live several times. I think it’s definitely a better experience in a club than watching a Netflix special of his. The joke about the girl guarding the white house will always be funny.
Bigfoot story is pretty funny
Anyone could recount that story and it would be funny, because the situation is inherently humorous.
@@Radtrayson1084 Chappelle is the goat though anyone looks lesser compared to him.
Fascinating, and great editing + commentary
you are killing it my boy, keep up the good work
I could listen to a video of you just repeating "Schulzy and his boy band" for an hour easy
Before everyone and their mother had a podcast I really enjoyed Seinfeld Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee because it really helped me understand a lot of what goes into “comedian brain.”
Jerry may not be the most brilliant standup ever but he’s a student of the craft and when he talks shop with other good comedians you really get an insight into how situational comics are always looking at things just a bit differently.
I think the problem with Rogen stable of comedians is that they think “comedian brain” is just the ability to turn anything into a joke and ignore social convention but miss the part where you take it from a unique or a original perspective.
I've always enjoyed his standup. Ya'll can say what you want.
Every construction site, warehouse, classroom, team sport has a comedian that's as funny as Joe.
Rogan is the gatekeeper, comedians have to praise him or they'll be blacklisted
4:00 really reminds you of the sopranos scene where tony tells a joke and "everyone" is laughing except for the one guy that hates him.
That one guy is FEECH LA MANA
SPOT ON, this is something I've been saying for years.... Huge fan of comedy since I could understand it. It kinda urks me a bit that he sells out arenas because of his fame Not because of his comedy. He always refers to himself as a comic when in reality he's close to 1B net worth, and his comedy has NOTHING to do with that. Glad this video exists!!! Thank you sir
You’re welcome!
Don't forget he took over the man show and it was cancelled pretty much instantly
No. I'll now watch the video and comment again
What did you think?
excellent analysis.
Was nice to get an explanation of the process, there are a few stand ups who feel very polished, let's call them the Seinfield types where its totally worked out and prepared. Then you have the Chappelle's who keep it more conversational, more flow. @@adambonesaw3689
Joe is a comedian who has become a successful and influential personality. His comedy definitely benefits from that.
The people who convinced Joe Rogan to become a comedian should go to prison.
I like Joe Rogan's standup and would pay to see him again. He may not be on the same level as Louis CK and Bill Burr or Dave Chapelle but he's also better than most of the others like Jim Norton, Bert Kreischer, etc. He's a good solid comedian.
No he is not. Your bar is just way too low
Joe Rogan is just like Jim Norton. Terrible at stand up, hilarious in conversation.
Uhhhh Fucking what??? 😂😂😂😂 you can't possibly have an opinion on comedy if you're saying that dumb shit.
Norton's a piece of garbage, Chip Chipperson buries that sock cuckah 😅
Joe's comedy buddies definitely have a group chat without him.
It would be funny if they did, but in all honesty I doubt it only because his friends love him. He seems like a great friend and his friends wouldn’t want to participate in something like that. Other comics, not his friends, probably talk about Joe’s standup.
I’ll answer…No he is not.
“even News Radio” only one of the best sitcoms ever
Me while trying my hardest to pretend or accept that Joe is a comedian while listening to him talk about his long comedy career on the JRE: 🤢🥵
Honestly, stop second guessing how interesting your content is. This is tailor-cut video and subject for my taste.
Thank you bro, I appreciate that
What’s important to remember about Joe Rogan is that there are marked difference in being funny with your friends and being funny like a comedian
"martial arts is the last place you'd think would be a breeding ground for comedy"
Judging by Joe, that was a valid assumption.
I imagine Joe writing jokes like Tom Cruise uses the computer in Minority Report
Your videos are always 💯🔥🔥
I’m not even a big stand up fan but I watch bill burr stand ups a lot . That’s how good he is . He trances the format.
I listened to the JRE before watching his stand up and all I could remember thinking during his stand up was "why is he yelling at me?"
lol yesss 😂
You Absolutely Nailed it
You should make a video of just Joe's sound effects like the end of this video....that was actually hilarious
Dude I was with you but the bimb boh corn joke made me laugh fr
This is great.
100% agreed with all points here.
You'd think a rich dude could buy clothes that fit probably 😂
It's crazy seeing someone making "Being fun" So complicated
That clip you kept playing of him making that noise into the mic is horrifying lol
For the record, I found this truly interesting. I'm fascinated by different creative processes/minds (including those which are elevated or visionary vs. forced or less organic, etc...) Just wanted to thank you for your research, insights, and work. Much gratitude!
No worries! Glad you liked it 🙏🏻
Joe Rogan's stand up WAS funny. Unexpectedly, surprisingly funny. The pre-podcast stuff! I don't know about now....
Id say he was your typical average comedian for his time pre podcast/ufc.
Joe has underrated impressions
Enjoyed this🎉
Those 3 being ur favorite…valid
