  • I took a day cruise out of Whittier, Alaska on the renowned 26 Glacier Tour.
Although they say you experience “26 Glaciers”, you really get up close to 5 - 6 of them, ya know, where the captain will circle around the waters so everyone gets photography time.
This excursion ran for about 6 hours in total.
It navigated along the waters of Prince William Sound in Alaska.
I enjoyed the views and glaciers, especially because the weather was perfect without a cloud in the sky.
My only issue was other passengers being so obsessive with standing beside the railings and not allowing others to capture worthwhile photos as well.
But, I guess that comes with the territory of being on a boat tour cruise where you can’t spread yourself out because there’s no leaving the ship all day (ie: docking and getting off the boat).
The tour did provide lunch. I picked seafood chowder soup which came with a roll and coleslaw side salad.
On the voyage back to Whittier, the crew members hand out freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.
While onboard, there’s a small gift shop and each passenger gets assigned a seat at a predetermined table which you’ll use as your “storage area” for leaving personal items while venturing out on the viewing decks to appreciate the sights and surroundings.
The total cost for the day trip voyage was $203.95.
Also when entering Whittier, you must pay the $13 tunnel fee entrance along with $10 for daily parking.
I’d say the cruise passed the most photogenic parts about halfway through the tour.
My favorite areas were Surprise Glacier, Cascade Glacier and Barry Glacier.
A quick rundown of the itinerary…
    - Take the 10:30am Whittier Tunnel.
    - Checkin at 11:30am
    - Board 12pm
    - Doors close at 12:30pm.
    - Depart Whittier at 12:45pm.
    - Sail for about 4 hours.
    - Arrive back in Whittier at 6pm.
    - Exit the ship at 6:15pm.
Also, we did stop for 20 minutes when we spotted whales swimming in the waters.
At the end of the cruise, if you enjoyed yourself, they ask to leave gratuity for the crew.
From exiting the ship and returning to my car, I actually drove over to Portage Pass Trailhead to do some afternoon hiking.
I recorded a separate video on my hike towards Portage Lake and Glacier which I’ll post soon.
Alright, well, these are some highlights and what you can expect from the 26 Glacier Tour Cruise out of Whittier, Alaska.
