    In 1969, Winey invented the Magneplanar - a thin-film magnetic equivalent to the electrostat, and founded the company now run by his son, Mark Winey.
    This sleek and elegant speakers utilizes an ultra-light aluminum ribbon to move air and produce sound waves, delivering quick and accurate response to electrical signals from your amplifier.
    To this day, all Magneplanar speakers are meticulously crafted by hand in White Bear Lake, Minnesota - a small community north of the Twin Cities of St. Paul and Minneapolis.

    I bought the .7 Magnepans on 5/15/24. I did A B testing with the LRS+ vs the .7 and paid he extra $1,000. I'm happy about it because the .7 just sounded bigger, deeper and better in every way.
    I agree that until you hear these crazy speakers, it's hard to explain the big, live sound. I listen to jazz and rock and love the sound of the human voice, a saxaphone, a guitar, drums, flutes, etc. I love this speaker but you do have to play with the position but they are very light and easily moved when ready to do serious listening. Good review!

    I own a pair of the LRS+... The stands, a simple pair of TV stands work great, around $20 a speaker, you can raise and lower it to your liking. The amp, anything over 100 wpc will do. The secret is to purchase an active crossover, I use the Rolls SX45, around $100 US. I run the high and mids into the LRS, everything below say 60 to 80 Hz is shifted to the sub(s). You need a subwoofer or subs. Invest in the crossover to make these speakers sing!

    • @MadAudiofficial
      @MadAudiofficial  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I tested in a new video the TV stand for the LRS+ and is going to change the frequency response of the speaker so you have to be careful, another point with such a speaker is that you can avoid an extra crossover and align the main with the subwoofer using a microphone and REW, better if the sub is coming with an internal DSP. A good active crossover is done by SPL!

    Have them at home. Also purchased from EU. Amazing speakers. I drive them with Gryphon Callisto 2200. And I hardly imagine any better. Maybe only playing a bit more with the positioning to achieve even better imaging. They are trully amazing speakers. I owned even 5 to 6 times more expensive speakers than these and I can say: LRS+ beat them all down. What amazed me the most and as you said you need a break in time. For me they are playing superb practically out of the box.
    As I have also two REL B2 subs I integrated one in my setup with LRS+. It was pretty easy integration but I set cut off frequency rather low.
    I did some mods too. I replaced the metal bridge at the back of the speakers with quality speaker cable (short one of course 20cm). I also purchased a better silver fuse (not expensive and if you know where to buy). But the best mod was custom made stands that were made by friend who is a pro welder and it follows the recipe from Magna Risers. LRS+ are on these custom stands standing a bit higher than with default stands and they are totally straight standing. Anyway I find these speakers extremely natural and neutral. They are good even for rock, specially live rock. I was amazed as it was like being there. Instruments are real in size, singers realistic and not tiny or shrill. It is interesting that I usually when i start to listen to them I just sit and I can not stop to listen. This is one of the indication that we have an absolute gem infront of us. In conclusion. Really pretty darn good speakers which they offer me to explore my favorite music and far more beyond that. They are able to drawn you somewhere I was never before with the exploration of new music. Worth even the EUR price.

    I don't know how I found your page but I'm so glad that I found you ~ I know some of the things you are mentioning and other items are new to me ~ I'm an American currently living in Japan ~ The Magnepan company currently doesn't ship to Japan so I'm doing a Handoff with my brother in LA and he will Fed-x my LRX+ to me here in Japan in the next few days ~ I also just bought the Rotel RA-1592 MK2 Integrated Amp which is rated (I hope) at 350 watts into 4 ohms ~ In the next few weeks I'll hopefully have this all put together ~ I never thought about Breakin Time but now I will ~ Do you think the Rotel (class A-B ) will be good enough for the LRS+ ~ I saw you were using a smaller version Rotel but you weren't to impress ~ This model is much bigger than yours ~ Another reviewer Andrew Robinson said that if the Mcintosh is a 10 then this Rotel RA-1592 is a good 9 his only gripe was that it didn't have HDMI's ~ Do you have any opinion on what will be my new set up ~ Would appreciate any advice you might have for me ~ I still have my training wheels on my audio bicycle( Living and learning ) 〜 Thanks RS ~

      Glad that you find this channel and welcome to the Mad Audio community, 350W are a lot of power and Rotel never disapointed, didn't test personally yet the 1592 MK2 but you shouldn't have any problems to drive the LRS+, is a speaker that will need a long brake in period so give time..

    For replacement stands you can get magna risers which work really well. There are also some TV stands that are supposed to be quite affordable and allow for better positioning of the panel (panels tend to sound best when completely vertical with no tilt)

      @@air870 They really did make a difference with my LRS. I have since upgraded to the 1.7i, but I'm questioning if the Magna Riser would make a difference for larger models since the stock stands have them standing vertically.

    • @air870
      @air870 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      True, I am waiting for my 2.7QRs to be rewired and am not sure that I will go for aftermarket stands as the stock ones angle the faces of the speakers more upright as compared to the stock LRSs

  • @geevee1045

    I wonder if your need to attenuate the tweeter is because the LRS+ is too close to the wall? I have my LRS+ 5 feet away from any walls and this helps with size, depth and freedom from coloration caused by wall reflections. But of course, as you say, the LRS+ benefits from a subwoofer. You may have noticed that the tweeter attenuator is made from a cheap, magnetic steel conductor which can't be good for the sound. I replaced this with a thick copper conductor, and this slightly improved the purity of sound. I also gambled, and replaced the hair width fuse with the same thick copper conductor, so that the audio signal doesn't get contaminated by passing through bad conductors. Of course, if you don't like the results, it's simple to return it to standard configuration. Also wanted to let you know, I really enjoy your channel.

      I have LRS+ , 1.7, MCMG and 3.6 . The 1.7 are the least favorite of my Maggie speakers. The 3.6 and LRS+ are my favorites. I am somewhat leaning toward the LRS+ in most cases. I’m also so in love with the true ribbon tweeter that the 3.6 has . The rest of my system is much more expensive than any of my Magnepan speakers. All of them require a very high quality amplifier to get the job done properly so I can understand how some people are not able to get the most out from the LRS+ . When I added the Magnariser stand it was a tremendous improvement over the original ones that were included with the speakers.

    • @pedrocols
      @pedrocols 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@vaejoviscarolinanus My 1.7s have external crossover so maybe why I prefer it. I think you are still in the honeymoon phase with LRS+ just like I was. Nevertheless, I could live happily with any of them.

      I was a Magnapan dealer for many years and have always had a special place in my heart for the company. The LRS+ is a great value and I feel that it has re-energized the company in a way that no single model has been able to do for decades. The stock configuration of the 1.7 does not have a outboard crossover like the 3.6 and models above. I’m guessing that your 1.7 have been modified for there phasing issues. There is a few people who are modding their Magnapan to make the speakers more responsive to their needs. I would love to have a chance to hear them, I am sure that I would enjoy them.

    You do not understand high END TWO Channel audio magna fans get the sound the way it was designed takes approximately 2 to 6 months to get them worked in and they’ll blow you away. You need to have the right amount of power, current high stress that current to run these properly and believe me they’ll take 1000 W of channel if you’ve got it, remember you need the right power you need current and you need because they’re very revealing and they’ll pick up every blemish you have in your audio signal source be prepared the speakers are like mirrors you look in it reflects you. It fills the room they sound fabulous. They need the right associated equipment components to bring them out fully enjoy the hobby which I’m sure you’re doing but you don’t know the reality of how good these really are until you get some hours in them believe me you need hours to get them to open up hours weeks.
