I mean what dev at guerrilla decided they should have the healthof a ravager strength of a slaughterspine and consider them midweight when they look the same size as watchers. Oh and make them scavenge in packs in some sites and some other recon units to make everything extra dead
Seriously. I run away now if I see them. Its never just 1 either. If it looks like 1, after you hit it, guarantee 2 more or right behind you ready to burn and claw off your face.
They also did a GREAT job introducing the tideripper and dreadwing! I followed along the main story in a good pace and i remember running around that arena in the greenhouse just looking at it because i was simply sooo excited about that machine because they never teased it and i didn’t expect there to be another big machine! Additionally, it looks awesome!!
Combat-wise, it's the Slaughterspine but the Tideripper is so close to matching it for me that it's a 2-way tie Design-wise, the Sunwing is just amazing. It's the solar panel wings that do it for me.
Is it bad that clamberjaws piss me off more than literally and other enemy, thunderjaws easy peasy, stormbirds, bust that cannon or tie em down, slaughterspines just pick them off from the high ground…even anakin couldnt defeat that, but the monkeys…the monkeys make me lose more ammo than all those put together-_-
@@brianbailey1681 Lol @ Anakin. They're the worst when you have to fight them in groups. The first time I encountered them was when I was hunting Stalkers for their parts. They came in all at once. It felt like there were a dozen of them but I had counted like six. It's mostly because they jump around so much. I usually shoot at their heads to take off their goggles and their canisters. They're weak to purgewater but as of right now I hardly use it. If you got a sharpshot bow and the brace shot technique in the infiltrator skill, try hitting them with that. I would also try to raise your stamina up so you can try back to back shots on them. That's how I deal with them at the moment.
@@Sakabatou77its the jumping forsure, i never aim for the tail unless i need it and i’ve caught them unawares, i never use purgewater just because theres like 3 weapons that have ammo for it or something, and yeah i have forgefall which honestly i hate, so i roll with glowblast for machines and delta for humans but i manage to line up a braced shot at their head and as soon as i let loose it jumps away or another one hits me from the side or something and theres 4 or 5 arrows gone then roll from the fire smoke bomb try to get away to line up another and its just a waste of resources for me lol
@@brianbailey1681 I think you just need more time to learn the machine. Or use different weapons on it. Imo they’re not too bad. Unless there’s the monkeys and another machine, then it’s hell. Cuz they’ll throw me every time I try attacking a different machine
All of the machines on this list was amazing and fun to fight against in the game. However, there was one machine I pretty much despised and avoided like the plague due to it being an absolute pain to deal with and not worth the effort. The Clamberjaw. This little baboon bastard keeps jumping all over the place, making hitting it with ranged attacks tricky, all the while it throw rows of fireballs in your general direction, setting the general area on fire, which got even worse in jungle areas where it could leap on to trees or rock formations. And if you even got close to the thing to do melee it jumps up in the air and swats you away. All of this got much worse given the fact there are always more then one. So yeah, most of the time when I saw a Clamberjaw site in my path on the way to some destination I went, "No thanks." and circled around it.
Slitherfang, tide ripper and dreadwing are easy af for me. Just the only need is get the better weapon by buying from merchant or do some quests that giving u reward the free weapon which is really useful and OP
@@PinkyBritey after playing for almost a year, I agree to your opinions. These 3 machines are exciting and yet easy to fight as long as you have the right build and weapons. Shellsnapper and Slaughterspine are still stressful in combat though.
So far the toughest ones for me have been the Specter, Tideripper on “The Sea of Sands” quest and Tremortusk. Haven’t fought a dreadwing, Slaughterspine Edit: just finished/plat the game Easiest one is BY FAR the Burrower Hardest one has to be the Slaughterspine and the earlier game specters
The specter has massive weak spots being its plates around its mouth, highlight those specific parts and target them you'll deal really high damage (also trigger the acid status with acid arrows for extra free damage)
@@Sparkballno problem :) I found that out quite randomly as I noticed some of my shots with advanced hunting arrows would deal around 300 damage near his face. From that point onwards I knew it was the way to go lol (also sorry i can't exactly tell you the name of the weak spot since I played the game in Italian)
This game made the new standard for action rpg, regular fights are like boss fights back in the older games, and it is exciting just to roam around and pick a good fight.
Yeah, the best thing I did is just walk through the far away quests and pick fights with the packs. I was often underpowered, so I had to go stealth, plant traps and combine close combat and distant sniping all at once. For me, just like the Zero Dawn, this is by far one of the best games I've ever played
Best new machine, slaughterspine is cool, clawstrider would’ve taken first place if it was at least as fast as the other mounts and maybe a little harder to kill, so going with slitherfang, not too hard to take out but its a really well designed enemy (spitting cobra+rattlesnake+sidewinder) i love snakes also so ya.
I was scared of the fireclaw because it was so strong in the dlc of the first game. Guess they nerfed them. The most annoying will always be the stalker. Loved forbidden west. Got the platinum and im waiting for the dlc or new game plus to play it again
Most of these machines are much easier to fight with the ice-storm bolt blaster and the corrosive blast sling. The Dreadwing was terrifying the first time I found it and the Slaughterspine is definitely the hardest machine to take down as the game only forces you to fight it once in the main quest line.
Slaughterspine should be no. 1 cuz how hard af to beat that. Also should replace dreadwing and rockbreaker with shellsnapper and specter cuz both make me pain in my ass
Solid list but I beat the game on Ultra Hard and the Tremortusk is actually one of the easiest to beat if you know what you're doing, remove all its cannons and keep your distance and it'll be dead in no time, and the tideripper isn't difficult AT ALL, destroy the tidal disc, then do purgewater/freeze combo until it dies
Agree, tiderippers somehow never see you underwater either like ive tried cutting them off to lure them to ground but naw just swim away-_- plus theyre slow. On very hard i had the most trouble with the clamberjaws of all things and early on i was not expecting snapmaws to be a hundred times bigger pains in the ass than zero dawn lol
@@brianbailey1681 yeah Snapmaws got that new elemental attack, it make them so much harder but what's funny is that I've never had any trouble with clamberjaws, it was spikesnouts that got me alot actually
@@onepalmaipom9464 i treat spikesnouts the exact same as scrappers or watchers (burrowers whatever tf) melee till death unless you’re that the spot where they can enrage that rollerback then definitely kill that first xD
I finished everything i could in the game and did all the upgrades and for me? I just hit their weakpoints and if they re still alive i hit em with a shock arrow and then do the critical strike like trust me you can do this to every single machine
If you have enough explosive abd drill spikes the slitherfang is no biggie. It gets REALLY annoying in the arena when they ask you to kill one with a plasma boltblaster and a hunter bow.
@@chronicallychic Hmm No, If You Shoot It's Storm Canon Then It Will Become Angry And More Agressive Then It Starts Going Up In The Air And Comes Down To The Earth With Electric Blow, Then It Creates Electric Shield Then It Does Electric Bites Then It Does Electric Tail Whip Attack And More Than Mix The Eye To This Planet Of Horizon
@@dydy972x4 yeah but apex variant sure as hell ain’t. I don’t know if the daemonic fireclaw or apex fireclaw is worse. I spent so much time getting good at fighting it and the apex variant rocked my shit.
As long as you control the fight, then none of these machines are particularly hard, not even on Very Hard difficulty. However, this can change pretty drastically when the game drops you into fixed situations (e.g. machines start out hostile, limited space or cover, time limit, victory conditions, no custom equipment etc).
You also forgot to mention that the leap lasher throws pods down around itself that can heal Miguel so you'll want to try to take out those pods as well as they can also affect Aloys focus
Bought the game 4 days ago, haven't fought half of the machines yet but so far im enjoying so much this game. I loved the first one, that i even got platinum on it and now im on my way to platinum this one. One thing is for sure, brace shot is so op. Like, i went to a cauldron where i had to kill a widemaw, and with a brace shot only, i killed it in one hit on normal difficulty, with a blue sharpshoot bow lol, so much fun
Aw man, the first time I encountered a Dreadwing was at night and it scared the hell out of me! Out in an open field, nothing around, everything's fine. Then GIANT FUCKING STEALTH BAT 😱 Luckily the regular Dreadwing is very weak to fire so it takes massive damage over time.
These poor developers. The Horizon Zero Dawn games are pretty fun & aesthetically beautiful, but both times their game was released, they were overshadowed by insanely groundbreaking, addicting, ridiculously fun games that released the same day. HZD was overshadowed by Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, and HFW was overshadowed by Elden Ring
I would have put the Clamberjaws instead of the Leaplashers. A well-timed power attack can easily knock down a Leaplasher and allow you to finish it off with a critical strike plus they don't have long range attacks. The Clamberjaw on the other hand is harder to hit because they jump around even more than the Leaplasher and they have an annoying ranged fire attack. They usually run in packs like the Leaplasher but they also can climb walls to make themselves even harder to hit. I hated fighting Clamberjaws more than pretty much anything else in the game...except for that cheap bastard Erik Visser lol.
while i certainly loved the game i couldnt help but feel that some of the mechanics are starting to feel a bit dated ie the assassins creed/arkham asylum style movement of Aloy. It felt like most of the machines were moving way too fast even when i was using concentration while she felt like a toddler trying to out run a bull and honestly i dont know why the adhesive mechanics was introduced cause it only worked like 3 seconds then the bots stated bouncing around again like daffy duck but i digress. I would just like to see better mobility from Aloy in the next game like more utilization of the pull caster to aim at trees or rocks to get out of danger and for traversing, a quicker recover when knocked down, or maybe some sort of double jump mechanic to leap out of the way faster or even a mechanic that would cause malfunctions to a machines limbs the more damage is done to them (not just weak points or removal of weapons) but thats just my 2 cents
You prolly just have bad reaction time, and timing in general. The machines will sometimes wait for you to prepare your attack and then strike with something faster. That’s when you have to bait sometimes before doing heavy damage. Dodging well making them being fast not a problem. It’s also best to use certain weapon against different machines. Also explosives and good for interrupting them(blast sling, spike thrower, etc) and give plenty of time. They aren’t too fast, they are smart. Some are more relentless then others, like the shellsnapper. Istg that thing doesn’t stop attacking, but that’s why traps, slings, and shredder gauntlet work best for me. I can get him to chase me until he runs into a trap or lingering effect. If he’s prioritizing range, I use the sling since he doesn’t move often during that, and the gauntlet since it’s really fast and lets you stay on the move. It’s about knowing how to fight them and your ability to react in time
@@jobywonkanobi i personally don’t have any problem with them being too relentless. And they seem to be just as wild as always, and I last played ZD in November so I doubt I remember wrong. Either way, hope you find a way around/to manage it
Something really cool happened recently. I was fighting the tremortusk, and I spotted the big tank on its underbelly. I hit it a few times, it exploded, and took away about 90% of the tremortusks health. It started walking towards me, so I dove into some tall grass, and killed it with a silent strike. One of the most powerful machines in the game didn’t get one hit on me when I saw it for the very first time. I feel like the most powerful being on the planet
"mild spoilers" Nice thumbnail you got, there! 🤔 Also my hardest battles yet have been the Grimhorn in Repair Bay Tau and a Fireclaw I was mining for parts, both on my Very Hard playthrough.
I'm only around halfway through the game, but personally, the slitherfangs are my favorite machine so far. I guess it's a matter of preference. P. S. "impossibly fast for his size" should I remind you of the basilisk? In the "Basilisk" film, and in the 2nd Harry Potter book/film. Also, you fight a slitherfang early in the game, at the end of the tutorial, so I wouldn't really call it "the ultimate challenge"
I love the slitherfang too! I thought I was the only one. But honestly it really is preference. The machine that you like is the one you’ll be better at taking down. At least from what I’ve seen
You're kidding right? Slitherfangs are harder to take down than Slaughterspines? Slaughterspines I find are more unpredictable with their attacks, and they can almost predict where to attack based on your movements. Slitherfangs you can see their attacks coming from miles off
Gotta love the horizon games they're just awesome. Like when you're fighting a slaughterspine and along with the plasma attack build up as well as that the music builds with it. Honestly it's fucking fantastic.
@@darkmaster2887 I've played both and this game is better in some places ex, open world, strategy and enemy design ( in some cases elden ring is better)
I can agree for this. I was on level 38 (playing in hard mode ) and I saw apex fireclaw when I doing free roaming the world then I gave myself to try defeating it and it took very long to defeat it and at least I completely took down that godamn fire bear
The specters are a pain in the butt, but that rebel fireclaw gave me the hardest fight. The Dreadwing is my new favorite machine. He can be easy fighting at a distance with fire arrows or spikes, but he's tough out in the maw of the arena.
Though tiderippers aren't all that difficult, they move around so fast and are so freaking jittery. You have to prioritize the giant sprinkler on its back if you don't want to be resorting to long ranged attacks (assuming you can get away), which is a first hurdle to figure out, but then targeting anything is difficult because it wobbles like a signed commemorative John Elway bobblehead on coke. I love this game, but I feel like I need a psychoanalyst to bring me back to center when I fly off the handle because the gawlshdarn arrow didn't go to the place it was mortarfracking supposed to when I shot the bunting, scrunting thing.
In the burning shores dlc there is a spot where both the slaughterspine and thunderjaw roams around and if u override one of them u can see a jurrassic park like fight between the two duking it out while u watch it afar in top of a waterwing or sunwing. In hfw near to the donat shaped lake at the top there is a tremortusk site as well where 2 of them spawns u can see the the same lvl of fight from it as well. Same with a similar site buts it's mission and that to a side mission where u have to stop the zenith from summoning the missions to clear out the way so no one approach near they're base and in here there is a thunder jaw and tremor tusk, if override any of them u get to see a epic battle between the 2
The three first machines are very easy tu kill with a few shots of the mythical shredder gauntlet to the belly/mouth. I personaly like the tideripper with its soundtrack. The Most annoying machines are the fireclaw, because it is such a pain to kill them and you need 2 apex fireclaw hearts to upgrade every legendary outfit/weapon and the apex slaughterspine, because even at night, it spawns only once and if you try to respawn it, it will turn into a normal slaughterspine. (There might be some mistakes in this text, because I can‘t speak english very well :)
Most times I hate fighting hard to kill many bosses machines because how much resources i waste on craft ammo, even after I beat them the loot isn’t enough to replace my lost resources. Upgrading pouches and armor takes dedication as well.
Fighting heavyweights aren’t meant to drop a crap ton of loot. But you’ll sure as hell get high quality loot. Fighting mid and lightweight machines are better for resource gaining
Tie between shellsnapper and slitherfang. Tideripper is also a bitch in an enclosed space, but much easier at a distance. Also, I'm suprised the sunwing and any of the clawstrider variants didn't make the list.
i would absolutely remove skydriffer and switch it with clamber jaw they are way more annoying. the slitherfang is the most spamming POS ive ever seen especially with its un dodge able headswipte, i swear i got CC locked when i was trying to do the arena fight
You can dodge all of the slitherfang’s attacks. You dodge in the direction the attack comes from. Also spike throwers worm really well on him. Clamber jaws are annoying until you learn it’s moveset, they then become fun
Slaughterspines are the toughest for me because I like to chip ata enemies and almost never use their own weapons. But the most annoying is the Clamberjaw... I dread having to figh them because they flee so fast when theyre about to die and they attack in groups of three
Trying to get a sack wedding in ultra hard mode, is the most time consuming thing ever, like you can't hit their lower neck part because it will still destroy the separate part your trying to get.
If it weren’t for weak points being a thing in horizon some machines would be worse than elden ring enemies. At least on very hard. That damned turtle is impossible without exploiting its weaknesses
@@kwamemwangs2173 you do realize machines have thousands of HP and with armor would only take around 1-5 damage regardless of weapons right. And I never said late game. I said some machines worse than elden ring enemies, not all of them. Some machines you wouldn’t even have enough ammo and resources a lot of times.
Shellsnappers, the velociraptor machines, slaughterspine and dreadwing=pain Mechsnake is easy for me, along with spectres and almost any machine. Melee is fun
The best part to is to let these apex predator fighting each other, recently I made a 1v1 with a tremor tusk vs Thuderjaw, unfortunately the tremor went down in couple of shots from the thunder jaw :( . Was using the berserk ability.
The first time I saw a slaughterspine was in a snow covered mountain and noped out of their pretty quick and ended up in the middle of a storm bird and a dread wing (which I also saw for the first time). My focus stopped working too and I was scared shitless.
Oh well, I like to fight the Slitherfangs. Freeze it, take it on the ground, this with Plasmaropes and shoot it with your Huntarrow. For the Slaughterspine, play at the first time on the furtivity, purgewater trap and wait until it's fragile. Take him the most of is weapons and than freeze him to tide him with normal ropes or electric ropes. Might take time, but you will survive quit well. For the Nightmare is the Shellsnappers. I hate them so hard...
I have the most problem to take down apex "bosses" It's literally scary to fight something that have more than 2K health sometimes with a bow that is dealing 60 in normal points. But actually slaughterspine is the worst for me, it have a lot of armor, a lot of HP, dealing big damage, and it's almost impossible for me to kill it from like 0-70 meters
ive popped one of the guns off before. when fighting in the zenith chamber where you find beta they tend to hop on the wall and often shoot at you. it became predictable so i was able to lop one off. with enough tearblast arrows. it takes a bit but they do great damage
@@nashscheber2362 theyre suprisingy rare, my current one is common and i have yet to find a suitable replacement lol. Plus other weapons do more tear damage so i need to find a new one lol
Reminds me a lot of Zoids. I recently build Berserker Fuhrer and I cannot help to wish Guerilla Games can deal with Kotobukiya or Supernova to produce Mecha kits based on Zero Dawn and Forbidden West...

I came across a herd of them for the first time and they absolutely wrecked me. I was shocked.
Combat-wise, it's the Slaughterspine but the Tideripper is so close to matching it for me that it's a 2-way tie
Design-wise, the Sunwing is just amazing. It's the solar panel wings that do it for me.
Shellsnapper for me. Its armor and its ice cannon drive me nuts. I usually use tearblast arrows on it. I love picking up all those shell bolts.
@@brianbailey1681 I hear yah. :)

Haven’t fought a dreadwing, Slaughterspine
Edit: just finished/plat the game
Easiest one is BY FAR the Burrower
Hardest one has to be the Slaughterspine and the earlier game specters
The specter has massive weak spots being its plates around its mouth, highlight those specific parts and target them you'll deal really high damage (also trigger the acid status with acid arrows for extra free damage)
@@CrashVersus1 thanks for the tip buddy. I’ll try to scan better the next time I face one 👍

@@CrashVersus1 😂 no worries. The description will do 👍
That damn Apex Tideripper in Xauldron Kappa gave me the most trouble. The air was blue. 🤬 But in general, Slitherfangs were the most annoying overall.
This game made the new standard for action rpg, regular fights are like boss fights back in the older games, and it is exciting just to roam around and pick a good fight.
Facts and most of the time the best and sometimes hardest battles are the ones you come across by just walking around lmao
Try fighting the apex version of the fireclaw. Thst will probably live up to the expectations of the fire claw from the first game
Most of these machines are much easier to fight with the ice-storm bolt blaster and the corrosive blast sling.
The Dreadwing was terrifying the first time I found it and the Slaughterspine is definitely the hardest machine to take down as the game only forces you to fight it once in the main quest line.
1.) Fireclaw
2.) Dreadwing
3.) Slaughterspine
4.) Stalker
5.) Rockbreaker
Slaughterspine should be no. 1 cuz how hard af to beat that. Also should replace dreadwing and rockbreaker with shellsnapper and specter cuz both make me pain in my ass

Shellsnappers are one of the hard machines I still dunno the most optimal way to take it down
As long as you control the fight, then none of these machines are particularly hard, not even on Very Hard difficulty.
However, this can change pretty drastically when the game drops you into fixed situations (e.g. machines start out hostile, limited space or cover, time limit, victory conditions, no custom equipment etc).
My favorite machine is the slaughterspine. Even the theme is the best theme song I ever heard
I wish they add those massive horus as an enemy on the next Horizon
Looks like you're going to get your wish. I'm sure the horus metal devil is probably going to be the big boss fight in burning shores.

Yeah who comes up with these release dates? 🤦♂️🤦♂️
Agreed. I hate those monkeys more than any of the new machines.
while i certainly loved the game i couldnt help but feel that some of the mechanics are starting to feel a bit dated ie the assassins creed/arkham asylum style movement of Aloy.
Either way, hope you find a way around/to manage it
An Elite Blast Trap or 2 Advanced Acid Traps will take away a significant amount of the Shellsnapper's health. At least 75% or more
The new machines on top of the new fighting mechanics and UI really make it feel like a new game, but not in a bad way of course!
Small machines:
1. Leaplasher
2. Clamberjaw
3. Burrower
Big machines:
1. Fireclaw
2. Rockbreaker
3. Slitherfang
4. Slaughterspine
5. Tremortusk
6. Thunderjaw
7. Shellsnapper
8. Dreadwing
9. Stormbird
10. Grimhorn
Quick tip: if you get a spectre to about a quarter health and use an elite acid trap on it it will give you tons of valour.
U must have been playing on very easy then cuz even on normal it only takes away like 50 percent health

slitherfang
For me it’s Slaughterspine.
Same with a similar site buts it's mission and that to a side mission where u have to stop the zenith from summoning the missions to clear out the way so no one approach near they're base and in here there is a thunder jaw and tremor tusk, if override any of them u get to see a epic battle between the 2
Your spino vs thunderjaw fight wish was granted in DLC :)
I agree that leaplashers are the hardest for early game players, I also noticed that scrappers do way more damage than they look like they should.
