We're planning a trip on Encore to Alaska in May of '24. This was a great video. We've never been to Alaska before, is end of May too early, in your opinion?
@@kateb1216 Thanks for the kind words about our video! This was our first time to Alaska too, and we went in mid-may. I don't think it's too early as we still had an amazing time (as you saw). In May, it's probably a bit more chilly than the summer months but we were still able to enjoy all of our offshore excursions. We wish you a happy and safe cruise in May 2024! 😊😊
Great Video! Just did this late August. I agree it's about a good 7 day, you will find.Juno, Skagway, Glacier Bay, the three biggies. We only were in Victoria a short time and wouldn't leave ship if I did again. That looked real cold, August was warm. Great choices on excursions, I did similar ones.

Hi there! Thanks so much for the kind words about our video!! 😊😊 We booked our Juneau Mendenhall canoe-hike excursion with a 3rd party. We originally wanted to do a helicopter Mendenhall tour, but they were all booked. We met friends on the cruise and they told us though, that their helicopter tour was cancelled due to rain. So we were really happy with the Mendenhall canoe-hike, bc while it rained, our excursion was still able to go on! The lumberjack excursion was through NCL. We're in our 30s, and the Mendenhall canoe-hike was really an adventure - you get a lot of adrenaline canoeing with the group across the lake, learn a lot about the glacier and its surroundings, and walking on the glacier itself is awesome. I imagine the helicopter tour would be exhilarating too. Not sure if you stop at Skagway, but the White Pass / Yukon trail ride was fun. It's not "adventurous" but it had lots of cool history and sights. And was an opportunity to sneak in a nap lol! There was a brewery in Skagway too, so that was fun afterwards 🍻 Wishing your family a happy and safe cruise!! 😄😄
We just returned from 7 days and it was heaven! Food to the point it was overwhelming but great fun. All the restaurants r excellent & the entire crew was incredible. The ship is beautiful with attention to small details making it into a stunning visual experience. And of course Alaska is simply breathtaking. I'm ready to go again...right now!

We took Encore to Alaska last year. We definitely had a lovely time --- BUT --- the docks NCL chose, especially at Ketchikan, put a big damper on things. Needlessly long waits for shuttles and long shuttle rides used up a lot of valuable port time.
Hi Chuck! Thanks for watching 👍🏽 Sorry to hear about those long waits - our biggest delay was in Victoria (we only had like 1.5hrs to explore). Other than that, there were some long lines when getting off the ship at some ports but for the most part, things moved pretty well. Hopefully you don't experience those dock delays again!

We just came back from the Encore on September 18th. Skagway stop is closed due to landslides but we stopped in Sitka the old capitol in Imperial Russia. We enjoyed everything especially the great staff, the food, and entertainment. I already "sold" two sets of friends to go next year.Our first cruise and NCL is our choice wherever we go. Their transition cruise back to Florida would be great one when Alaska season is over in a few weeks.

Wonderful & excellent video! I will be sharing with my cruising buddies. I just took the same trip in June of this yr(22)and the weather was fantastic! We had sun & warmth with record breaking highs. Our only(& major)problem was the Skagway port was closed to us due to the rockslides. So we missed the port & the famous train ride. 😟 BUT all is not lost! We going on same trip, same ship, & same itinerary Sept of 23 to do it all again it was soo fabulous! Hopefully we'll get to Skagway this time! Thanks for the great quality video it will help show my buds how wonderful this is.

We put a lot of love into this video and edit 😊We went a few months ago in May - the average temps were probably around 48F - 53F, with the coldest being closer to 40F. But the wind out on the deck while at sea made it seem colder. We're from South Florida so maybe that's why we looked so cold lol! That's awesome that you're going on the Bliss for a 2nd time in October🙌🏽We'd love to do it again as well. I imagine you'll get temps similar to ours, but a little bit cooler. Awesome video, very informative and gave me a good perspective on what to expect on the ship and ports. For the kayak excursion you did, I noticed you were able to trek the glaciers. Can you share which excursion that is? We are going in July and planning our excursions in Juneau. Currently I don't see any kayak excursions that allow us to trek the glaciers, so any info you can share would be great. Thanks!

As of last year, they stopped the glacier walks because of the condition of the glacier. To be sure, I recommend reaching out to the company to see if they still do glacier walks. It was no more than a casual 10-minute walk from where the bus dropped us off. They had a good selection of tasty beers and a nice outdoor seating area, though it was pretty chilly out there for us South Floridians (we went in May), lol! We went the 2nd week in May - we heard that it was actually the NCL Encore staff's first voyage to Alaska this year, which was pretty cool to think that we "kicked off" the Encore's 2022 season! We were indeed pretty lucky in that we didn't receive any bad rain while cruising. During the daytime while at sea, it was just cold & windy (as seen in the video lol). It rained for a bit while offshore in Juneau and Ketchikan, but they were both just passing showers. Hope you get to cruise again soon - cheers! 😊

Time will fly and before you know it, you'll be boarding the Encore 😊 I would suggest not booking the excursion at the port, and booking the excursion online way ahead of time - because most of the popular excursions sell out very quickly! I'm not sure whether if it's cheaper at the port because we booked online ahead of time. Also, if there's an excursion that's sold out through NCL, you should be able to find another excursion not affiliated with NCL - some are reputable as well. Good luck planning! 🙌🏽 🙌🏽

Hey Tyler! Prior to the excursion, we didn't have to do anything besides sign up and meet the guides after disembarking the ship. They provided all the gear needed and gave a rundown about the whole adventure prior to getting in the canoes and heading to the glacier. Wishing you guys a happy trip in October! Cheers! 😊😊🍻🍻
We are going on the Encore from Oct 16-23…. Is that the same cruise that you are going on ?? If so we just found out The itinerary has been changed through the white pass railroad NCL agents are not even aware of this, but I was able to confirm it yesterday with one out of 5 agent, that in fact NCL corporate office sent an email to tourist offices in Skagway stating that The Bliss nor the Encore will not be docking in Skagway for the rest of the season due to rockslides that has been happening since June. Instead we are being rerouted to icy strait point. So please make any necessary arrangements. we are very disappointed on how NCL is handling the situation because the agents have not been informed and neither have their guests nor showing the itinerary changes on their website for that matter. We had to cancel our Helicopter tour to the glacier as well. Very disappointed 😔

Now we find ourselves not being able to reschedule the whale watching tour in icy streets nor in Kachitkan because it’s too far out in the season and nobody is doing that any longer only in Juneau…. Total devastation …. What excursions and where do you have them booked ?? Has Norwegian reached out to you with an itinerary change to icy strait‘s point instead of Skagway ?

Do you think there’s enough on the Cruise to keep them entertained and do you think they would enjoy this type of wilderness cruise? Did you see a lot of younger kids on this cruise? I know you went in May when kid’s are still in school. Thank you!
Hi Trinh - thanks for watching! I do remember some younger kids on the cruise, but I can't say if there were many of them or not. We did some exploring and saw one floor that had an arcade for kids, and another area (on the same floor) where they had activities for kids as well. The pool outside wasn't used at all (except for the first day) because it was either cold and windy, or just cold out. I'm not sure if it'll be much warmer in July for you and the kids to enjoy the pools/slides. The speedway and laser tag were definitely a lot of fun. Every day on the cruise, there was an entire schedule of things to do. It really seemed like NCL tries to make sure they have activities all day, for all ages, so my gut tells me you'd find ways to keep the kids entertained. I think the views are awesome enough in Alaska that the kids would enjoy seeing the mountains, glaciers, and maybe even whales if you book a whale watching excursion. My gut would be to just go for it - I think the whole family would enjoy - hope that helps, cheers! 😊 😊

Hi bro, your vlog is amazing! beautiful pictures and smooth edit. I just booked the exact same cruise sailing June 18th. The sad news was I suddenly discovered I would need the Canada visa to board this ship. I didn't think of the visa problem because Seattle and Alaska are all US territory, but I forgot to check the port of call. I called the NCL 2 times and they were required to not say anything about visa requirements, plus they will not refund and were not willing to change time. After I gathered information by myself, I'm pretty sure that the visa should be required. Today is the third day after I booked this trip, and I have already submit the application for my parents and I. Actually I just went to the visa department this morning to present biometrics. Hope we can board the ship successfully, and I would like to know the boarding process like if there will be a Canadian custom before boarding? Forgot to mention that we will be using Chinese passport, for I know US citizens won't be bothered by the visa problem. I already tried by best, since the time is so limited, I'm not sure if I can get the visa on time. But I'll go to Seattle and see if I can sign something like I won't get off the ship at Victoria... The worst case is no refund and denial of boarding. Your vlog definitely encouraged me to put my effort on this uncertainty.

Hi there! We went in early May. It was actually the first cruise to Alaska of the season for the Encore. The weather at sea was chilly, cloudy, and windy at times. I would say mid 50F-55F at sea. The weather conditions at each port were different - we encountered a bit of rain at some of them, but the weather was mostly either overcast or sunny ☀️ The weather is always changing! We loved our experience and hope you do too! 😊😊

@@PeterDavid-es4gl sorry to hear the Mendenhall tour is booked for your date :/ did you try researching other private companies? They're most likely booked too, but it's worth a shot. There might be some excursions that you can book on the day of in Juneau. But I do recommend again trying to book something in advanced, for peace of mind. My in-laws did a whale watching boat tour, which is another option in Juneau!

It's literally right across the cruise ship terminal, lol!! If you get a balcony view facing the port, you can see the Encore from the hotel. It definitely was a good move to be able to walk across the street to the port. We wish you a happy cruise - aloha!! 🤙🏽🙌🏽🛳

Our cruise next month on the Encore, will be our third NCL cruise this year. As for the Prima, we are booked to sail on her next September 10-day Northern Europe sailing. I heard it can be rainy, cloudy, and foggy around that time - however, if there are cruises still available in October, I'm sure it will be beautiful and fun regardless of the weather! Alaska is an amazing place 😍
Hey! We booked the excursion directly on the Liquid Alaska Tours website. However, some time after we went, they stopped offering the glacier hike because of the glacier's changing conditions. Check their website or email them for the latest info on this - things may have changed! 👍🏽
Hi Brian! I had to scroll through my phone's videos to answer this one. I don't remember if there was an actual "hard time" to disembark, but - we were having one last breakfast at 8:55am (with our luggages), in line to disembark at 9:25am, and back on land at 9:40am. Not sure if it's different now, but that was our experience. Hope you have a great cruise!! 😊😊
We went in early May! It was the first voyage to Alaska this year. We got really lucky for sure - we hope you still enjoyed your cruise despite not making it to Skagway! 😊
@@JKEscapades_ we went in August. Yes we did enjoy a lot even with weather not with our side. Missed out on private helicopter glacier landing excursion in Juneau due to rains. Missed skagway due to rockslide. Apparently Royal Caribbean did go skagway and they got passengers on emergency boats but NCL choose not to take that route for safety.
What deck level did you guys stay on and was your room at the front, middle or back? We are going in June and have balconies on deck 11 toward the front of the ship. Worried about feeling movement and if that’s a good deck to be on. Any input is appreciated.
Hi Vicky! We stayed in a balcony room on the 11th floor (00:54). We were in the middle of the ship because we heard you generally feel less movement there. The second day out at sea, we felt a lot of movement at night as it was pretty windy out. But, once you get into the Alaskan waters, it's mostly smooth because you'll be sailing between land/islands. I think you'll be fine toward the front of the ship - if it does get choppy, it shouldn't last long, hopefully like us!

Hi Claudine! We saw one kid having the time of his life at the pool, I think it was the first or second day out of Seattle. We saw nothing preventing anyone from using the pool, aside from one day where they fenced it off (I think because it was windy and the ship was rocking a bit). After that, it was always cold, chilly, and windy on the deck. We neither saw anyone going on the slides nor attending to the slides...not sure if it's because they were closed or there was just no one interested in going lol. We went in mid May for reference! It might be different during months with better weather 👍🏽

Great Video! Just did this late August. I agree it's about a good 7 day, you will find.Juno, Skagway, Glacier Bay, the three biggies. We only were in Victoria a short time and wouldn't leave ship if I did again. That looked real cold, August was warm. Great choices on excursions, I did similar ones.

Hi there! Thanks so much for the kind words about our video!! 😊😊 We booked our Juneau Mendenhall canoe-hike excursion with a 3rd party. We originally wanted to do a helicopter Mendenhall tour, but they were all booked. We met friends on the cruise and they told us though, that their helicopter tour was cancelled due to rain. So we were really happy with the Mendenhall canoe-hike, bc while it rained, our excursion was still able to go on!
The lumberjack excursion was through NCL. We're in our 30s, and the Mendenhall canoe-hike was really an adventure - you get a lot of adrenaline canoeing with the group across the lake, learn a lot about the glacier and its surroundings, and walking on the glacier itself is awesome. I imagine the helicopter tour would be exhilarating too.
Not sure if you stop at Skagway, but the White Pass / Yukon trail ride was fun. It's not "adventurous" but it had lots of cool history and sights. And was an opportunity to sneak in a nap lol! There was a brewery in Skagway too, so that was fun afterwards 🍻

We just returned from 7 days and it was heaven! Food to the point it was overwhelming but great fun. All the restaurants r excellent & the entire crew was incredible. The ship is beautiful with attention to small details making it into a stunning visual experience. And of course Alaska is simply breathtaking. I'm ready to go again...right now!

We took Encore to Alaska last year.
We definitely had a lovely time --- BUT --- the docks NCL chose, especially at Ketchikan, put a big damper on things. Needlessly long waits for shuttles and long shuttle rides used up a lot of valuable port time.
Hi Chuck! Thanks for watching 👍🏽 Sorry to hear about those long waits - our biggest delay was in Victoria (we only had like 1.5hrs to explore). Other than that, there were some long lines when getting off the ship at some ports but for the most part, things moved pretty well. Hopefully you don't experience those dock delays again!

We just came back from the Encore on September 18th. Skagway stop is closed due to landslides but we stopped in Sitka the old capitol in Imperial Russia. We enjoyed everything especially the great staff, the food, and entertainment. I already "sold" two sets of friends to go next year.Our first cruise and NCL is our choice wherever we go. Their transition cruise back to Florida would be great one when Alaska season is over in a few weeks.

Wonderful & excellent video! I will be sharing with my cruising buddies. I just took the same trip in June of this yr(22)and the weather was fantastic! We had sun & warmth with record breaking highs. Our only(& major)problem was the Skagway port was closed to us due to the rockslides. So we missed the port & the famous train ride. 😟 BUT all is not lost! We going on same trip, same ship, & same itinerary Sept of 23 to do it all again it was soo fabulous! Hopefully we'll get to Skagway this time! Thanks for the great quality video it will help show my buds how wonderful this is.

We put a lot of love into this video and edit 😊We went a few months ago in May - the average temps were probably around 48F - 53F, with the coldest being closer to 40F. But the wind out on the deck while at sea made it seem colder. We're from South Florida so maybe that's why we looked so cold lol!

As of last year, they stopped the glacier walks because of the condition of the glacier. To be sure, I recommend reaching out to the company to see if they still do glacier walks. It was no more than a casual 10-minute walk from where the bus dropped us off. I really enjoyed your vlog! I cruised Alaska a few years ago on the NCL Jewel. I was wondering what was the date you went? I went during the first week in July. It was cold and rainy but not like it looked for you two.

We went the 2nd week in May - we heard that it was actually the NCL Encore staff's first voyage to Alaska this year, which was pretty cool to think that we "kicked off" the Encore's 2022 season!
We were indeed pretty lucky in that we didn't receive any bad rain while cruising. During the daytime while at sea, it was just cold & windy (as seen in the video lol). It rained for a bit while offshore in Juneau and Ketchikan, but they were both just passing showers. Hope you get to cruise again soon - cheers! 😊

Time will fly and before you know it, you'll be boarding the Encore 😊 I would suggest not booking the excursion at the port, and booking the excursion online way ahead of time - because most of the popular excursions sell out very quickly! I'm not sure whether if it's cheaper at the port because we booked online ahead of time. Also, if there's an excursion that's sold out through NCL, you should be able to find another excursion not affiliated with NCL - some are reputable as well. Good luck planning! 🙌🏽 🙌🏽

Hey Tyler! Prior to the excursion, we didn't have to do anything besides sign up and meet the guides after disembarking the ship. They provided all the gear needed and gave a rundown about the whole adventure prior to getting in the canoes and heading to the glacier. Wishing you guys a happy trip in October! Cheers! 😊😊🍻🍻

We are going on the Encore from Oct 16-23…. Is that the same cruise that you are going on ??
If so we just found out The itinerary has been changed through the white pass railroad
NCL agents are not even aware of this, but I was able to confirm it yesterday with one out of 5 agent, that in fact NCL corporate office sent an email to tourist offices in Skagway stating that The Bliss nor the Encore will not be docking in Skagway for the rest of the season due to rockslides that has been happening since June. Instead we are being rerouted to icy strait point. So please make any necessary arrangements. we are very disappointed on how NCL is handling the situation because the agents have not been informed and neither have their guests nor showing the itinerary changes on their website for that matter. We had to cancel our Helicopter tour to the glacier as well. Very disappointed 😔

Now we find ourselves not being able to reschedule the whale watching tour in icy streets nor in Kachitkan because it’s too far out in the season and nobody is doing that any longer only in Juneau…. Total devastation …. What excursions and where do you have them booked ??

Do you think there’s enough on the Cruise to keep them entertained and do you think they would enjoy this type of wilderness cruise? Did you see a lot of younger kids on this cruise? Hi Trinh - thanks for watching! I do remember some younger kids on the cruise, but I can't say if there were many of them or not. We did some exploring and saw one floor that had an arcade for kids, and another area (on the same floor) where they had activities for kids as well. The pool outside wasn't used at all (except for the first day) because it was either cold and windy, or just cold out. I'm not sure if it'll be much warmer in July for you and the kids to enjoy the pools/slides. The speedway and laser tag were definitely a lot of fun.
Every day on the cruise, there was an entire schedule of things to do. It really seemed like NCL tries to make sure they have activities all day, for all ages, so my gut tells me you'd find ways to keep the kids entertained. I think the views are awesome enough in Alaska that the kids would enjoy seeing the mountains, glaciers, and maybe even whales if you book a whale watching excursion. My gut would be to just go for it - I think the whole family would enjoy - hope that helps, cheers! 😊 😊

your vlog is amazing! beautiful pictures and smooth edit. I just booked the exact same cruise sailing June 18th. The sad news was I suddenly discovered I would need the Canada visa to board this ship. I didn't think of the visa problem because Seattle and Alaska are all US territory, but I forgot to check the port of call. I called the NCL 2 times and they were required to not say anything about visa requirements, plus they will not refund and were not willing to change time. After I gathered information by myself, I'm pretty sure that the visa should be required. Today is the third day after I booked this trip, and I have already submit the application for my parents and I. Actually I just went to the visa department this morning to present biometrics. Hope we can board the ship successfully, and I would like to know the boarding process like if there will be a Canadian custom before boarding?
Forgot to mention that we will be using Chinese passport, for I know US citizens won't be bothered by the visa problem. I already tried by best, since the time is so limited, I'm not sure if I can get the visa on time. But I'll go to Seattle and see if I can sign something like I won't get off the ship at Victoria... The worst case is no refund and denial of boarding.
Your vlog definitely encouraged me to put my effort on this uncertainty.

Hi there! We went in early May. It was actually the first cruise to Alaska of the season for the Encore. The weather at sea was chilly, cloudy, and windy at times. I would say mid 50F-55F at sea. The weather conditions at each port were different - we encountered a bit of rain at some of them, but the weather was mostly either overcast or sunny ☀️ The weather is always changing! We loved our experience and hope you do too! 😊😊

There might be some excursions that you can book on the day of in Juneau. But I do recommend again trying to book something in advanced, for peace of mind. My in-laws did a whale watching boat tour, which is another option in Juneau!

It's literally right across the cruise ship terminal, lol!! If you get a balcony view facing the port, you can see the Encore from the hotel. Hey! We booked the excursion directly on the Liquid Alaska Tours website. However, some time after we went, they stopped offering the glacier hike because of the glacier's changing conditions. Check their website or email them for the latest info on this - things may have changed! 👍🏽

Hi Brian! I had to scroll through my phone's videos to answer this one. I don't remember if there was an actual "hard time" to disembark, but - we were having one last breakfast at 8:55am (with our luggages), in line to disembark at 9:25am, and back on land at 9:40am. Not sure if it's different now, but that was our experience. Hope you have a great cruise!! 😊😊

@@JKEscapades_ we went in August. Yes we did enjoy a lot even with weather not with our side. Missed out on private helicopter glacier landing excursion in Juneau due to rains. Missed skagway due to rockslide. Apparently Royal Caribbean did go skagway and they got passengers on emergency boats but NCL choose not to take that route for safety.

What deck level did you guys stay on and was your room at the front, middle or back? We are going in June and have balconies on deck 11 toward the front of the ship. Worried about feeling movement and if that’s a good deck to be on. Any input is appreciated.
Hi Vicky! We stayed in a balcony room on the 11th floor (00:54). We were in the middle of the ship because we heard you generally feel less movement there. The second day out at sea, we felt a lot of movement at night as it was pretty windy out. But, once you get into the Alaskan waters, it's mostly smooth because you'll be sailing between land/islands. I think you'll be fine toward the front of the ship - if it does get choppy, it shouldn't last long, hopefully like us!

Did you see anyone in the pool or on the slides? Were they open?
Hi Claudine! We saw one kid having the time of his life at the pool, I think it was the first or second day out of Seattle. We saw nothing preventing anyone from using the pool, aside from one day where they fenced it off (I think because it was windy and the ship was rocking a bit).
After that, it was always cold, chilly, and windy on the deck. We neither saw anyone going on the slides nor attending to the slides...not sure if it's because they were closed or there was just no one interested in going lol. We went in mid May for reference! It might be different during months with better weather 👍🏽
