I’ve worked in retail loss prevention for 20 years and we’ve caught everyone from a local judge to the daughter of the owner of one of our city’s professional sports teams shoplifting. Some people just like the feeling of getting something for nothing.
Years ago, while working retail, in Northern Virginia (right across the river from DC, so lots of offices and feds in the area), saw a guy in a nice gray 3pc suit cruising the candy aisle. I saw him tuck candy in various pockets... he was shocked to be met by cops on the way out the door, frisked by the cops, and walked back into the store to apologize to the store mgr. His comment to me: "why would you even be watching ME?" (like he was something special and 'harmless') I think my manager allowed him to pay for the candy and leave, but he got a serious chat with the cops before he left.

I got caught and didn’t have a job and basically was charged and my mom was going to have to end up paying thousands in court costs. I stood up in court and pleaded w the judge, saying it is not fair that my mom has to pay that kind of stuff when she didn’t have anything to do with this and I’m taking full responsibility. Is there anything we can do so that my mom doesn’t have to pay that? I asked. Thankfully the judge was empathetic and told me if I did 100 hours community service he would waive all court costs and basically dismiss the charge. I was so thankful. I got those hundred hours done in 10 days. I was able to choose where I did my community service and I chose the orange county animal shelter. I worked for 10 hours for 10 days straight. Then of course there is a big issue…with that specific cop…. But I have a newsflash for you? And it’s one you aren’t gonna likely love…. And the defendant of a bad cop….so I can only hope you might appreciate my personal experience….its unique. Anyways. The statistics back up my assertions…. Cops are generally honest with their statements…. Polygraph evidence shows this, interviews with trained experts who know deception tells us this…and the fact that the public at large, generally has very very little evidence to the contrary, and you must know it too…and I’m sorry if that’s hard to accept. Cops in general are a cut above with their commitment to be sorta Boy Scout rule followers….most….not all. Remember m I’m using the most concept, which is still very very relevant…. I never will say any single group is all good or all bad. Not all those who commit crime, are bad people. Some are nicer and better than those who enforce law…I know this too. Peace

Get a little thrill ripping off stores that are over pricing and robbing us and making a billion a year. Can see how that could be addicting
What was the sports team?….😂😂😂
Years ago, while working retail, in Northern Virginia (right across the river from DC, so lots of offices and feds in the area), saw a guy in a nice gray 3pc suit cruising the candy aisle. I saw him tuck candy in various pockets... he was shocked to be met by cops on the way out the door, frisked by the cops, and walked back into the store to apologize to the store mgr. His comment to me: "why would you even be watching ME?" (like he was something special and 'harmless') I think my manager allowed him to pay for the candy and leave, but he got a serious chat with the cops before he left.
And going to jail for it
I can't even add my bag to the target scale without it calling for the cashier. 🤨

I got caught stealing less than $50 worth of items when I was 18. They were Christmas gifts for my little sister. I didn’t have any money. I never stole again because $50 $100 $150 is not worth the charge. If some thing is worth stealing it’s worth purchasing that was my new outlook and I never stole again. It’s sad that this deputies career of 10 years is completely over because she didn’t wanna pay $150. Sad. I’m so glad I learned that lesson young. @@bunnyluver2176 I’m telling you exactly that. That’s what happens when you go to court and demand the cops axion body cam video. The video will either support the plaintiff or the defendant.
Cops words aren’t trusted as the ultimate truth. In the moment they can be…they need to be….its hard to explain here…but think about it? We need a system where someone in the immediate sense is trusted. Like to let them place cuffs on you…you’re vulnerable right? But if the cops integrity is found to be bad later….? Then of course there is a big issue…with that specific cop….
But I have a newsflash for you? And it’s one you aren’t gonna likely love….
Most cops and their testimony and their statements, and what’s corroborated on their body cam, are honest people…they are.
I’ve been on both sides..
The cop.
Peace
