I am really enjoying the pace of Attila. In my Sassanid campaign, I'm in year 404 (further than Heir), I've completed the first chapter of the campaign with most of the bonus objectives, I have plenty of money and power, and I have not yet even conquered a single additional settlement. I desolated one, but that's it. I've gained a couple more puppet states, fought some wars, and defended my northern puppet states from Scythian hordes, but I've felt no pressure to expand and I like that. Previous Total War games have been all about explosive expansion and I really like this break from that.
Ehh..good for you but some of us like to conquer. To ME, thats what Total War is all about. Not to say Atilla doesn't allow for that, but since I haven't played it yet I don't know. I just know that what you describe sounds boring. I like to expand and grow, and I loathe turtling.
The Sassanids aren't pressured to expand but many factions are because they are too far North or migratory. One of the reasons the Sassanids make for a unique campaign.
HeirofCarthage Even then though I think you're not to pressured to migrate. Unless you've got the whole hunnic horde on your doorstep, you can settle into a very nice position. I'm playing a Dane campaign and I've taken about 5 provinces, and I really didn't once throughout the campaign feel the need to migrate. It is harder to get a lot of food and make money from agriculture in the north, especially now as the time goes on as your fertility decreases, but you can supplement that by food. I think I've spent an equal amount of time in my campaign raiding and invading as I have managing cities and provinces and engaging in political intrigue. Which I love.
Ted Brasy To be clear, I think the Sassanids are in a fairly uniquely comfortable position. And you do have to expand eventually in order to accomplish the later campaign victory conditions. It just doesn't force you to conquer territory after territory from beginning to end. This way, it actually feels more like a real historical empire, which I like a lot.
HeirofCarthage For politics you need to use your family members for actions against other nobles [note that if you marry a daughter to another clan she joins that clan but remains in your tree, you cant use either of that partnership]. You gain influence points per turn based on traits/wives/battles etc. Then you convert these influence points into actions against other nobles OR to secure support and money for yourself.. also these can back fire and its important to keep at least 20+ influence on your clan leader so if something goes wrong he has that extra influence to bribe...castrate...and blind his men xD Another note... if you castrate someone to keep them loyal it obviously stops them having kids so be careful doing it with your own family and blinding someone who is a military general is a bad idea, i believe -1 cunning/authority/zeal and so on. The main thing is to secure loyalty, marriages and gather support..hope that helps ^^ Oh and putting other nobles into office will make them more loyal if you support them advancing, but if they try to advance without permission, you need a bank of influence points on your leader to shut them down
Hey Heir you can actually kick that governor out of office. Go to your list of governors click on the trouble maker, at the bottom of the list you will see a button with a little boot on it that says "kick of office" and there ya go
Might I suggest the Franks after the Sassanids. It's a decently challenging campaign, mostly because of the cost to convert Roman buildings to yours. It takes ten turns and over ten thousand gold to convert a tier one roman city to a tier one barbarian city, and that's with the Frankish -50% building conversion cost!! So basically, you'll want to spend a ton of time raiding Gaul and Britain for the cash before taking more Roman land than the neighboring regions.
HeirofCarthage Also I just saw you hesitate with forced march when trying to reinforce an ally. I believe you dont get ambushed in forced march when someone moves on you anymore, also you can reinforce battles still. They have to have an ambush set which Ive done but not seen AI do yet. If the AI attacks you in forced march you just get some penalties [5 tired whatever that means xD]
In the screen where the family tree is the guys on the top left "other grandees" are like the "other fimilies" on rome 2 so dont use them too much as generals and the other positions use your family as much as posible.
Heir, if you select one of your family members in the family tree one of the options is 'Secure loyalty'. It doesn't improve that person's loyalty. You target someone who isn't in your family and it makes them more loyal. Like that one guv'ner.
Also I love how you said in one of your first Atilla videos how important stamina has become and how it's important not to run everywhere...and yet you still run everywhere haha
The allied armies from the very beginning of the episode were just out of reinforcement range of your besieging army. They were on the way to help you against the Romans, but they didn't quite get there in time to help your first assault. Also, I find it's much more cost-efficient to levy units from puppet states than it is to recruit mercenaries. Puppet state units have the same upkeep as units you recruit yourself, so you don't need to deal with the inflated cost of maintaining mercenary armies.
Heir, in your provincial capitals you can get a building called a burial ground or something - super useful as it provides sanitation and religious influence.
Heir, to fix wavering loyalty, pick someone in your family and use the gain loyalty button (or something like that name) then a crosshair will appear and you click on the target of that action, being narseh. In atilla, you select a character who will perform an action, then the action he will perform, then the target of that action
I'd like if there was a feature that allowed you to control puppet state, vasals etc, more like telling them to expand in a certain direction, get one of their armies to travel with yours to reinforce it or just to defend their own lands.
Heir. Please check your diplomacy. For the love of God it physically hurts when you say you're going to do it and proceed to ignore it for the whole campaign. Diplomacy is important. Arranged marriages and trade!
about loyalty, if you select another one of your faamily memebrs you can use 25 influence to add either 2 or 4 loyalty depending on chance. although there is around a 10% chance it will fail altogether
I would love to see a Vandals play through. Other than the WRE, i think that is the hardest faction to play because of their poor starting units, and since everyone is playing the WRE or the ERE, i think the Vandals are the most original and the most challenging faction to play
Hey Heir, if your faction leader's influence is low, everyone else with higher influence will lose loyalty. you can use your other family members, even their wives (though they have fewer options).
Heir try to mantain the kink's influence very high.higher then any other character cuz if some other character have higher influence then the king it will give minus 1 loyalty to characters and in my sassanid campaign i have like 5 generals that rebel for that.
You claimed you didn't understand politics but you played it perfectly; a known disloyal governor plotted against your brother and you let it play out .. your brother whacked the disloyal governor, who is the single big known threat to you. Yeah your brother is kinda pissed but you made it up by promoting him ... "good job little bro I knew you had it in you, now here is the payoff.". Court politics at its best .... your hand is clean and dead disloyal subject.
Heir, Could you try this army as the Jutes in your next online battle? Viking Captain 2 Nordic Band 2 Nordic Bows 3 Huskarls 2 Viking Raiders 2 Warhounds 4 Horse Lords It works really well for me in multiplayer, and I was wondering what you would make of it.
maybe you shouldn't allow your vassal states to take large cities like Alexandra or Antioch in case they grow too powerful and try to rebel against you. Tarsus looks like a good next target to prevent your vassal from taking it.
they show your faction leader because if you were going to 'prepare' it would decrease his influence so you can see his influence... it has nothing to do with the assasination :) (srry for the bad english)
Thats a shame. I wish the Persians had never lost to the Muslims I frankly wish it had never expanded beyond Arabia, but I'm not being hateful merely expressing a liking for the various cultures that were lost. Sorry, I went off on a tangent hah
+ABDULLAH suleiman oi m8 every second persian was named yazdegerd actually the last persian sasanid emperor was yazdegerd, and after their defeat most sasanids fled to the region ot china/mongolia and became noblemen
You can improve loyalty, go to diplomatic page. Click on your King and then look at the options u can do, one of them improves relationship/loyalty with other members.
Pretty much, if a unit is standing still and can see enemies charging, they ready themselves (brace). With weak units it doesn't make much of a difference but it can often give the charged unit a chance.
Heir the armys of your puppet states were out of the city's reach .. they could not reinforce you , just watch again part 1 and see the numbers on the interface before battle
Can anyone please help? When I recruit units on attila it doesn't show me their stats! Only the top bit like "good at capturing" etc but the bottom bit with the attack and defence stats isn't there, anyone know how to get it on? Don't want to keep having to right click to see their stats :-(
1) Verify game cache 2)Check if drivers are updated 3)Play around with different game and campaign settings 4) Restart PC (if you havent tried that) 5)Re-install game(last resort as this takes time) 6) Search online for possible fixes on forums 7)Simply wait for an Atilla patch that may fix the issue --- could be a glitch contained in your current campaign so you could try starting a new campaign --
HeirofCarthage Need to read the comments more, people are telling you how the family tree works. Also, you need those religion buildings or your people will be converting to other religions than Zoroastrian. Which will make your public order really bad. Also you can kick out disloyal governors....
when i start total war attila it says i have to update my drivers and when i play there is all black smoke instaid of fire and dust but when i try to update my drivers it says that there are no updated versions please someone help me
I realize he is playing as the Sassanids, but can anyone for the love of god please tell me: How do I get my population growth higher as the Huns? Huge thanks.

Lol Heir at 25:40 Honestly, I've noticed that you have become less and less attentive with every passing game. Compare your Shogun 2 videos to now, and you seem to have degraded in awareness both on the campaign map (completely misunderstanding the family tree function for the first two videos) to the battle map (with increasingly frustrating misclicks). Hell, your Rome 1 videos years ago make you looks like an expert compared to where you are today.

Ted Brasy There are different campaign win conditions to choose from, I'm certain every faction has at least one that relies heavily on conquest.
The Sassanids aren't pressured to expand but many factions are because they are too far North or migratory. One of the reasons the Sassanids make for a unique campaign.
HeirofCarthage Even then though I think you're not to pressured to migrate. Unless you've got the whole hunnic horde on your doorstep, you can settle into a very nice position. powerful, rich, outnumbering opponent by miles but still pullthroughing hah
Hey Heir you can actually kick that governor out of office. Go to your list of governors click on the trouble maker, at the bottom of the list you will see a button with a little boot on it that says "kick of office" and there ya go
I've Refreshed the subscriptions page too many times waiting for this! But its finally here!!
Might I suggest the Franks after the Sassanids. It's a decently challenging campaign, mostly because of the cost to convert Roman buildings to yours. Agree, im playing one right now year 410 and i only have 2 extra regions, Londinium and a salt producing town in gaul, very fun ;)
That doesn't sound fun to watch at all.
I'm playing with the Geats and it's the same price you said, and my wealth is around 1500,so 3 of my cities are still Roman, kkkk
Remember to go into the diplomacy map and secure more trade agreements. Great series so far! Looking forward to more.
Sassanids incredibly OP, Heir's Kill Total: 2,317
You should actually read the comments because people have been telling you how to do the politics since the first episode.
HeirofCarthage Also I just saw you hesitate with forced march when trying to reinforce an ally. I believe you dont get ambushed in forced march when someone moves on you anymore, also you can reinforce battles still. They have to have an ambush set which Ive done but not seen AI do yet. Cool thanks for the info.
That guy that needed a wife because he was "getting old" is only 19... lol
In the screen where the family tree is the guys on the top left "other grandees" are like the "other fimilies" on rome 2 so dont use them too much as generals and the other positions use your family as much as posible.
Loving the series! Hope you continue past just the minor victory!
Eastern Romans disliked this video.
If you have the time could you do each of the historical battles please?
The allied armies from the very beginning of the episode were just out of reinforcement range of your besieging army. They were on the way to help you against the Romans, but they didn't quite get there in time to help your first assault.

Waiting that extra hour after the video is first uploaded for the 720p makes it that much sweeter.
I think you should take over everything the game will let you in this caimpain!
just take over everyone... even your puppet states!(eventurally)
18:19 - "You can have any colour you like, as long as it's purple", LOL :)
I'd like if there was a feature that allowed you to control puppet state, vasals etc, more like telling them to expand in a certain direction, get one of their armies to travel with yours to reinforce it or just to defend their own lands.

About wavering loyalty. You have an option to make one of your men gain loyalty of someone else at the cost of influence points.
"This guy needs to seek a wife, he's already gettin' pretty old"
You say about the 19 year old... xD
great vid, I like the campaign series
if one of YOUR family member has enough influence to "secure loyalty" you can use it on the character from outside of the family.
Looks like they went more back to Shogun 2 mechanics than Rome 2... Which is a good thing. Very good thing...
Hey Heir, if your faction leader's influence is low, everyone else with higher influence will lose loyalty. you can use your other family members, even their wives (though they have fewer options).
The range of these towers in ridiculous!!!!!!!
Any idea which campaign you will play next? Im hoping for a Hunnic playthrough, or any of the hordes really.
Heir try to mantain the kink's influence very high.higher then any other character cuz if some other character have higher influence then the king it will give minus 1 loyalty to characters and in my sassanid campaign i have like 5 generals that rebel for that.
Heir if u go into the family tree when u click on 1 of ya family members you can see options at the bottom to increase loyaty and other things
You should give yourself a challenge after this campaign with one of the roman factions because this campaign is bound to be over quickly.
You claimed you didn't understand politics but you played it perfectly; a known disloyal governor plotted against your brother and you let it play out .. your brother whacked the disloyal governor, who is the single big known threat to you. Heir,
Could you try this army as the Jutes in your next online battle?
Viking Captain
2 Nordic Band
2 Nordic Bows
3 Huskarls
2 Viking Raiders
2 Warhounds
4 Horse Lords

omg yezdegerd !!!! thats the name of a general who was defeated by muslims in al-qadisiiah battle
Thats a shame. I wish the Persians had never lost to the Muslims I frankly wish it had never expanded beyond Arabia, but I'm not being hateful merely expressing a liking for the various cultures that were lost. Sorry, I went off on a tangent hah
Ted Brasy The Muslim Persians produced Omar Khayyam, which was very good. They also produced Al-Gazali, which was horrendously bad.
Ermahgerd! Yezdegerd!
+ABDULLAH suleiman oi m8 every second persian was named yazdegerd
actually the last persian sasanid emperor was yazdegerd, and after their defeat most sasanids fled to the region ot china/mongolia and became noblemen
Heir use flaming shot always cause it does more damage and it has bonus vs large and (im not sure about this one) it shot faster
I wish all those family tree/political features were there in Rome 2
You can improve loyalty, go to diplomatic page. Click on your King and then look at the options u can do, one of them improves relationship/loyalty with other members.
looking good, tks
THIS IS SPAHAN!
(Say it out loud like Leonidas would)
Those mercenaries were worth it!
can somebody explain to me, what it means when you say that unti is not braced? is it just that they are not standing still or what?
Pretty much, if a unit is standing still and can see enemies charging, they ready themselves (brace). With weak units it doesn't make much of a difference but it can often give the charged unit a chance.
Robert Summers
thanks man
After winning a siege on some cities/faction? What does the liberate option do?
It gives it back to the original owner of that settlement idk if they become a puppet state or a military ally
You do not get the city, but you create a new faction that gets that city and the factoin loves you.
Thinking about getting this game, but I have one concern. I don't know if i could run it. I could barely run rome 2, think i could run this?
Take the performance you got for Rome 2 and cut like 20-30 fps off of it, you probably won't be able to run it at all.
Heir the armys of your puppet states were out of the city's reach .. they could not reinforce you , just watch again part 1 and see the numbers on the interface before battle
whats the point of having governors anywau? and this may be a stupid question, but i think that u can still have regular generals right?
Can anyone please help? When I recruit units on attila it doesn't show me their stats! Only the top bit like "good at capturing" etc but the bottom bit with the attack and defence stats isn't there, anyone know how to get it on? Don't want to keep having to right click to see their stats :-(
There should be a little "+" button in a circle. Click it, and it expands the info card.
Great help! Thanks for that!
What is up with these new drivers my driver is up to date and attila freezes on turn 8 on every campaign help? Pls
1) Verify game cache
2)Check if drivers are updated
3)Play around with different game and campaign settings
4) Restart PC (if you havent tried that)
5)Re-install game(last resort as this takes time)
6) Search online for possible fixes on forums
7)Simply wait for an Atilla patch that may fix the issue
--- could be a glitch contained in your current campaign so you could try starting a new campaign --
I'm glad I'm not the only one with that problem, except I am a little farther in my WRE campaign
Thanks Heir!
HeirofCarthage Need to read the comments more, people are telling you how the family tree works. Also, you need those religion buildings or your people will be converting to other religions than Zoroastrian. Which will make your public order really bad. Also you can kick out disloyal governors....
How do you move your army as a whole in this game? I could do it in Rome 2 using cntrl but that does nothing this game
Miss rome 2 videos...
144p... I'm gonna go watch rome 2 vids while i wait for 1080 :)
when i start total war attila it says i have to update my drivers and when i play there is all black smoke instaid of fire and dust but when i try to update my drivers it says that there are no updated versions please someone help me
it is possible that iam lloking at the wrong drivers though can someone tell me how to fix this problem queze my game also crashes because of it
Forums would be a better place to post it, if you seek help
Heir, since when is the age of 19 an old age to get children :,)
Wait.... Family tree is back in Total War?
visigoths campaign heir!!!
I think promoting wavering Gov's would help.
Why did they removed Jerusalem ?
Because Jerusalem was destroyed in AD 70 and AD 132 and then repopulated.
Steel4 Thanks for the awesner. Who destroyed it ?
Titus destroyed it in AD 70 and (I think) Hadrian destroyed it in AD 132 or ordered someone else to do it.
Steel4 Thanks.
Are civilians still a thing in this or not?
What is the time period in this game compared to rome 2 ?
About 500 years later.
I realize he is playing as the Sassanids, but can anyone for the love of god please tell me:
How do I get my population growth higher as the Huns?
Huge thanks.
You can kick them out from government in your government scroll you'll see a boot on the bottom right
btw, female family member has the same abilities as male characters
only 360p?
Fucking chillis commercials, I want to watch the damn video!
Does Total War require java?
HeirofCarthage: as you mentioned you do not known how it works policy. Here is the link where he describes how it works policy. I hope that will help.

Heir it German longbows which Has 200 range
I would help your puppet states
Eventually you can get those raiders
Economy first :D
13K profit, my god. I am playing as the WRE, please lend me money. :P
Noooo why did you choose the Sassanid... I hate them so much T T
Lol Heir at 25:40

Seriously?? It's a brand new game, that he's learning and Heir never claims to be the best campaign player but imho he's the most entertaining.
😮💨
Uhhh 180p
yay
l
