it's insane that something can hold this back.
@Tom I can hardly put into words how little sense this comment makes.
The earth would be moved only by this booster IF he is held. If it wouldnt be held, but would jet off, it would've no influence on the earths rotation at all.
So why should´ve "Kris tian" thought that the booster would move the earth if there was nothing to hold it in place? I have never read such a big logic knot in so few letters :D
@Tom who is that "they" you are talking about?
You definetly replied to Kris tian.
And it is held at rest not by the earth but by a large, purpose-built structure attached to the earth.
And because its held back, it definetly has an impact on the earth rotation, as everythin has. even you do a push on the earth by jumping. Its just incredible small, but measurable. So yes it definetly has a push on the earth, but do you mean, that it changes the earths rotaiton drasticly? wtf, you even need 2 + onflight engine to just move a small rocket into space, how can 1 have the tiniest bit of relevant impact on the earths rotation then?
@Tom The person isn't referring to the mountains or the earth, but to the structure built in front of it, to keep the booster from moving, so they can test it Which honestly, I was also thinking the same. Imagine how much force the booster is exerting on that structure, continuosly as the fuel burns, and yet, it resists. It is indeed quite impressive.
The engineer who tied it down slapped the side of it and said "That ain't goin' nowhere."
@@eross.carmona7235I mean, in some jets the engines have only 3 very small attachment points that transfer all the thrust to the frame which is a lot of weight and forward movement for some tiny metal bars, so I def believe smth can hold this back
Well, that was a total failure. The rocket didn't move an inch...
Lol agreed
But how much did Earth's rotation speed up?
ZingsVideos, was it going in the direction of Earth’s rotation? Maybe it slowed Earth’s rotation! That would be better; there isn’t enough time in the day as it is.
I gotta give it to you man..
if you look very closely it did
Now thats how the earth rotates
Don't give those Rocket scientist any ideas, next thing you know they'll be SLOWING the EARTH'S ROTATION, and Christmas will be in JULY.....

Damn, that fire trail is about 3 times longer than the rocket itself.
Humans are real genius
@@Benoni-wu2pt space travel is one of the few good things we've actually done as a species and can be proud of.
@@Leo.Wirabuana not gonna work very well because its designed to be a sea level booster. Thats why 2nd stage engines are specially configured for burning in a vacuum. The srb will either be very inefficient or the nozzle will be damaged when it starts bending because of flow separation
@@SD352-68i meant this srb in particular will not work well if its launched in space, as its designed as a sea level booster not a vac engine
This isn't a rocket it's a solid rocket booster, the things on the side of the space shuttle on takeoff?
Imagine lighting a cigarette with it
the "it ain't over till it's over" lightmatch
The cigarette (as well as you) will fly away due to the force of the thrust
But hey, atleast the cigarette was lighted!
@@aircraftsupport5800 I think your skin would melt off before you felt any “thrust”.. watch the gopro video in which the gopro was placed 20 feet away and it got melted
@@robburgundy9539 but yeah, you will melt
After this, there are now only 20 hrs on a day.
Space and anything to do with it is absolutely facinating! I could watch fire for an hour straight 😍
It's on Earth in a 12.3 psi air pressure. Chemistry being what it is those propellants would not ignite in the vaccum of space. That's right even though the oxidizer is mixed right with the fuel with no ambient air pressure the molecules don't sustain combustion. Gunpowder doesn't burn in a vacuum of 150k feet equivalent explosive compounds don't explode in even relatively weak vaccums.
Now that's a flame thrower!!
That's nothing compared to me after nachos from the company cafeteria;)
Salute to the engineers
And that was one brave co2 spraying robot that entered the nozzle at the end.
I'd love to see a slowmotion capture of that ignition - it just looks absolutely instantaneous!!
I used to live on the other side of the Wellsville mountains from where these were tested. According to a family member, you could hear the rockets being tested.
I'd absolutely believe it.
The Shuttle launches were loud enough to kill you from the pure volume if you were too close, and would drown out the PA system from the launch observation area across the water a good couple miles away.
@@Just_A_Dude Saturn V would liquidfied concrete...and set grass ablaze a mile away.
I was three miles from a shuttle launch, and you could not only hear it, you could feel it. I'm guessing that the vibrations can be felt from many miles away.
Back in the 60s my dad would take me up to the rocket tests at Santa Susanna pass. Incredible power that I can still feel every time I'm reminded of them. Thanks Dad.

Now *that* is impressive engineering!!!
You don’t have to do this. I mean it’s really effecive but you can get weed spray at the local hardware store.
I was so lucky as a kid to go see many of these static test launches. Several times in school, other times with my dads work (his company was contracted with Atk)
Yoh stand about a mile or two back from the site, it’s literally a giant concrete block dug into the Mountajn that holds in place
Awesome vid. Thanks for posting. 👍 I’d love to see the footing get poured and the entire test rig get built.

Finally, the Accumulator Enable Valve makes a comeback!

It always facinates me that the rocket takes all these weird PSD and acoustic loads, not to mention the obvious thermal issues as well as lifting a kajillion lbs .
Is that similar to a Brazilian pounds?
It's called Engineering, dummy!
Crazy power !! 1 solid rocket 🚀 booster thrust = 2,650,000 pounds !! The 3 main shuttle /4 on Atrimus rocket motors produce 375,000 pounds thrust each. So you need 7 rockets for just 1 SRB !!
I like that bald patch on the mountain side
Oh so thats why I kept feeling like the days are getting longer and longer.
Wonderful
lived here my whole life. never got to see it happen.
paintball killer, well at least you got to see the video 🤷🏻♂️

Sad to see this much soot wasted in the atmosphere. Could've been used. But we all test for a reason. That booster is 2 +1 in my eyes. Cant wait to see it in action. Love it!

That's a pretty way to churn up particles into the atmosphere. If they could do that in mars maybe it's a plausible way to thicken it's atmosphere
Some serious power. Talk about scorched earth
Pretty interresting,

Had to come watch this rq after SLS launch
What does category for engine test.. Whether seeing from machines stability , how much fuels for used , and then how much bigger capacity for freezing machines after launching .. Just only increase my knowledge about spaceflight .. Cause I'm very interests about these .. Thanks ..
What i see in the taco Bell bathrooms:
Ah, yes, the 2 million lbf force cigarette pack
See as long as the force of the thrust has and exit it will not explode it's when the force dose not have an exit that causes it to explode
I want one of those for my backyard.
Doing this in a Extinct Volcano looks like it's erupting again (Without Lava)
Is this setting gonna work for roasting marsh mellows or do I need to turn it up more?
Well thats one way to turn a desert into the world biggest piece of glass
Do someone know why there is the black smoke at the end? Some type of insulation of the booster?
Cool
Wowza
I like that day turns to dusk when the camera tries to adjust exposure, and the rocket still totally blows out the image

I'd like to know how hot it was and whether it turned the sand to glass?
Between 5000 and 6000 degrees F. If you look on the Google Earth satellite image of the test stand you can see a conical gouge in the rock downflame from the stand that extends about 400 feet. I would like to have such a setup like this but I think my neighbors might get upset with the noise.
The closing shot of the valley looked like Saitama punched someone out there.
Can you imagine if someone is behind the rocket, it must be a ghost rider🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

no, not hot enough
After all that, it’s just dropped into the ocean. How sad.
Adam Ash they need the TECHNICAL EXPERTISE to land and reuse.
The SRBs are cheaper to discard than reuse. Not like they have engines or anything, it is just a metal shell that they refill with goop. By the time you recover, examine, clean, and rebuild the srb you are better off making a new one.
Brandon Nixon the point is that SLS continues to use archaic technology. They need to innovate or just leave the market to the new kids. They are wasting our taxes on their “services”.
Exactly. But they continue down this dead end tech-road as if everything is going to be ok. They don’t seem to realize they’re already dead.
