I’m watched this show religiously and the character screech was very irritating. Even watching it now , the character got in my nerves. But I am glad he was included but his lines were horribly written. He wasn’t a bad actor, it was generally a cheesy kid’s show.
He’s friends with Mark Paul. He isn’t friends with Dustin I kind of feel bad for Dustin. He was Ike 3 or 4 years younger than the rest of the cast which is a HUGE age gap so he couldn’t really relate to them socially off-camera. When he was 14, the other cast members were 17 and going on 18. A HUGE GAP. I imagine they kind of treated him the way their characters did: like a dork. And he probably took it very passively. And he took it and took it. Then when the show ended, he just became angry and his life just spiraled and he didn’t have any friends to bring him back from the brink From what the saved by the bell set details, it sounds like it was a very superficial atmosphere full of young good looking teens who were told they were good looking, were treated like they were good looking and they knew they were good looking. Then there was screech who they told to act like a dork, be a dork and maybe even made him believe that’s what he really was, that that’s all he really was. Yes the cast is clutching their pearls over what Dustin Diamond has said but has any single one of them stopped and asked themselves if, maybe, just maybe, how he was treated as a young teen had a huge negative impact on who he became-and none of them bothered to even care because they were in their own narcissistic bubbles? On another show, on Family Matters, the producers and directors went out of their way to remind Jaleel White that he was just playing a character and that he was his own person-and he was nurtured with a lot of care and love. They did this because when they went to fan events, people would literally treat him like he was a dork-and that could be really really really destructive to a 14 year old kid I think Mark, Mario, Elizabeth, Tiffani, Lark-all good looking people who were celebrated on all the teen glamour covers-should ask themselves, honestly, what kind of negative bullshit Dustin had to put up with in his teens that would turn him into a bitter, toxic and destructive adult. Art imitates life. And, in real life, teens who are alienated in junior high and high school for being a “dork” have a high high percentage of having mental health problems as an adult
Very thorough and beautifully intelligent assessment of an unfortunate truth in Hollywood....TYPECASTING KILLS CAREERS. I was never an actor, yet shit minded teens went out of their way to remind me I wasn't part of any group! Negativity can take a toll on introverts. Mind you, I didn't go back to my schools with submachine guns. But, sadly, alienated youths tend to compartmentalize their feelings until they can only take so much and act out. Is it any wonder suicide rates are higher amongst men than women. Sure, woman go through depression and suicidal thoughts. Yet it's we men who are more likely to end our own lives. Sorry for going off-topic. My main message is, be kind to one another. You never know who that mistreated youth could grow up to be....🇵🇷🇺🇸😉🦂💘
R TTT Yeah, even though they are older now, Mario met him when they were teens and obviously Mario has had more career success. Due to how they first met, Mario probably still sees him in his head as the “geeky”!kid.
Mario looks like he has a lot of anger toward Dustin. I haven't read Dustin's book, but it sounds like he trashed the other cast members pretty bad in it. He tried in this interview to put it all on the ghost writer, but a book by Dustin would have to get Dustin's approval, unless he signed a really stupid contract, which I majorly doubt.
They all admitted recently, to not treating him particularly well behind the scenes. They chalked it up to themselves being dumb teenagers and him being so much younger than them at the time.
For all the people that keep on saying that Lopez is acting like he dosent know him, Lopez was the only one that stayed in touch with screech through out the years
Tum Tum how do you know they were lies? Were you there? I mean if screech had dirt on them and he said it in the book you think the cast will say “yeah that’s true”🤣 they’ll deny everything, it’s the Hollywood way baby
John Dough uhh...watch his Extra interview with Mark Paul. His vibe with him is completely different while still remaining professional. There’s clearly a friendship there. Here he’s literally acting as if he doesn’t know the guy.

What are you even taking about? Mario Lopez is one of the few cast members who actually kept in touch and didn't make him feel inferior to the rest. He was literally Dustins only friend from the show.
He seems like he got things together now. Too bad they didn’t invite him or Lark as part of the reboot. The reboot isn’t going to be any good without Screech or Lisa!
His mistakes include committing fraud (begging for donations to save his delinquent mortgage by selling T-Shirts, with product not delivered to his “donors” and the donations not actually going to pay his mortgage), slashing people with knives, and being a bitter bitch that tried to make a few dollars (literally a few dollars) on a cruddy book (I believe there’s a typo by the 3rd word of the first paragraph) that shits all over his cast mates for no reason. Honestly, he seems like an ugly soul. And like a lot of losers, rather than work on his life he just blames the same event from 25-30 years ago for his current predicament. IOW, it’s always everyone else’s fault, not his own.

Dustin Diamond made the show better. He made people laugh. He is gone but never be forgotten. I have never cried so much for a actor. My ❤️ goes out to him for the way the cast treated him.
Daniel Gilleeny In this context, I think we can tell that Dustin was not close to Mario or the others during the show. If they were homies back then and hadn’t seen each other in that many years, there still would have been more natural warmth in the interview 😂. Mario talks like Dustin was the nerdy guy sitting opposite to him in a class room that he use to laugh at on occasion 😂.
That’s not true though. They all did The College Years together and Dustin was older than 16 on that. Mark Paul also did an episode of The New Class and Dustin was on that.
I was thinking the same thing; however, Diamond was born in '77, both the College Years ended & the New Class episode that Gosselaar appeared were in '94, typically shot one year prior making Diamond 16.
I'm 32 grew up watching saved by the bell. One of my co workers is 18 and was talking about watching it on whatever streaming service. Its amazing how many people grew up watching that show. It was just so wholesome they'll never be another like it. Rip Dustin
Could not stop laughing at the fact that Mario with a serious face asked Dustin when was the last he saw his former cast members, dude you’re one of them.
Mario was making a point. He obviously knows the answer, but is asking so YOU the viewer sees / knows that there’s a void between him and the other costars.

This is so weird how Mario is asking him questions about "Save by the Bell" and the other Cast Members like hisself wasn´t a part of it....also I never saw Mario so serious in a Interview...
Mario shouldnt even be interviewing him. He acts as though he never even worked with him on the show he is interviewing him about! And now the cast only cares about him now that hes dead.
I can't blame him for acting this way since Dustin Diamond did write a book saying negative things about each of his cast mates. Do you expect them to just forget all the stuff that he said in his book especially since Dustin never retracted his comments or apologized?
It`s weird how Lark is not mentioned at times, or excluded/doesn't appear. She is an org. cast member. She goes back to the first episodes with Miss Bliss. Way before Mario, Tiffani , and Elizabeth were added .
I think its because they're aware of her situation..I've caught it mnay times as well including with tiffani's interview on howard stern a few yaers ago and on her cooking show she invited eliabeth once and they showed a pic and did not show Lark eventhough she was in the pic
yeah i do recall Mario talking about Lark and commenting that she was a pretty girl and sweet - cant remember if that was on ET or some other show but yeah...its sad. Mark and the others never mention her - Dustin has and said one time they were doing some intervie for the Saved by the Bell DVDs and she wasnt the same Lark he knew. I think they did a little movie together in recent years
Good call, I didn’t even notice that. Dustin’s audio seemed louder and clearer than Mario’s, like Dustin was miked up but they were only recording Mario’s voice in a room.
The thing this interview has taught me that you cant wait for the perfect time to do things. This video was 4 years ago and he spoke about wanting kids and then the article I read today says that he and his girlfriend/wife were wanting a family. Just do your life now people, dont wait for the right time.
Your comment is even more poignant now, considering that Diamond got cancer and died a short time after, proving your point more about not waiting for the perfect time.
My heart really hurts for Dustin. As reject myself I know the pain he feels. Regardless of his past I do believe people deserve second chances and SBTB cast didn't give to him.
Good news for those the world rejects: Jesus Christ says, “All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out” (John 6:37).
Carrying the shame and guilt for releasing that book for over a decade would take quite the emotional toll. I wouldn’t be surprised if that contributed greatly to his early demise. The world needs to be more forgiving. Sometimes people make really bad mistakes. I forgive you Dustin, and I forgive the rest of the cast too for not knowing differently. We all just do the best we can, and hopefully we all learn along the way too.
For what would they be giving him a second chance at? I would imagine most of them lost contact with him (and maybe each other) long before that book was published. Just think, on a simplistic level, they were colleagues in a work environment. How many jobs have you done where you've lost contacts with colleagues (even ones you may once have been good friends with)? It happens all the time. Aside from his untimely death, I feel sorry for him as it seems that he struggled to shake the character of Screech, whereas (most of) the others have largely gone on to have quite successful careers in their own right. I watched a couple of minutes of a video on TH-cam of a stand-up routine he did, and it was quite cringe-worthy. Most of his act (or that which I watched - I didn't bother watching it all) seemed to revolve around the fact he used to play Screech. And, in particular, it revolved around his desire to separate himself from his past (despite the irony that his whole routine was desperately clinging to that very past). And this seems to be reflected in this video. It's obvious he wants to move on, but it seemed impossible. And it seemed that, without relying on his fame for portraying Screech, nobody was too interested in him, but if he relied on that fame, people wanted something else - something of a catch-22 situation, I guess.
Mario is actually a really nice guy, very well liked. He just handled this like a professional interview. Dustin seems to have finally grown up and he does seem sincere. I hope fences can be mended. The fact that Mario was even willing to do the interview shows what a stand up guy he is.
Man... Watching Mario interviewed him like a total stranger and also in intimidating atmosphere is really weird.. Dude, they all work together for almost a decade. Guess time did change people one way or anaother... May god have mercy on your soul Diamond ❤️😢
Why does it look like MArio wants to beat the shit out of Dustin? lol every time the camera shows MArio's face he looks like he's holding back pent up rage haha.
There were actual accusations of Mario Lopez raping a girl during the run of SBTB. It wasn't Dustin accusing him, it was in the news back during the series' run in the 90s.
It does seem odd. I get that Mario is keeping the interview professional, but the way he's carrying himself during the interview feels like he doesn't know who Dustin is. Like they just met.
@@IGamingStation definitely even if he’s being professional, usually when he interviews people he knows or met they usually laugh, and he’s more light hearted... he looks like he hates Dustin here
LOL that's what I said. He's so fake. He's on social media saying he such a good person and friend. Celebs are full of shit. I think its because Dustin was exposing a lot of the shady stuff behind the scenes and most likely the cast tried to find ways to silence him.
He doesn't. This is the first time he saw him in 22 years. The last time he saw Dustin, Dustin was 19 years old. That is like going to a high school reunion and seeing people for the first time in 20 years. Do you expect to instantly click with the 37 year old who you knew at 17 especially if that person has trashed you for years since then?
RIP Dustin/Screech. The interview, I don't think Mario Lopez is really being disrespectful. He's just simply not the greatest interviewer, and he's trying to be impartial. No big deal, he did all right. Dustin turned out to be a decent-looking guy, shame he's gone so young. Would have loved one more Bell reunion with the entire cast.
I feel Mario only reached out to Dustin after he got word of his diagnosis for his own personal guilt. The cast wasn’t very kind since day one and now send out phony condolences. Wack !!
Yes I know It’s sad Mario acted like he didn’t even know Dustin in this interview. What I meant by Mario reaching out was that he reached out to Dustin after he heard about him having cancer.
@@henrylima6974 Mario’s insta “I connected with Dustin earlier this evening and although the news of his diagnosis is heartbreaking, we remain positive that he’ll overcome this. Praying for him & his family and for a speedy recovery. God Bless,”
The question he asked Dustin seemed oblivious, but I believe he was just trying to maintain a level of professionalism between the two of them and just let him air his grievances. I commend Mario for being professional and giving him the panel to let him speak. He handle this interview well with class.
This is so heart breaking.. discusting how the cast really treated him! They only spoke about him bc it seemed like They had too. No matter what they should never have treated him the way they did. I’m completely disappointed.. RIP ❤️
His former cast mates (except Mario) were massive db's. Screech was an iconic character and obviously troubled. Super young to pass. Hope he's in a better place than most of the former cast mates are likely to go. Side note: the Kelly witch is nasty irl. I met her when I worked at (one ) of two networks and she was very rude!!
That was really hard to watch, he was definitely a part of my childhood, played his role well, when you think of saved by the bell you think screech, so sad to hear of his struggles, rip d.d.
RIP dusty, lord knows you made mistakes, as we all do, but you were trying to learn from them and overcome them. And you contributed so much joy and laughter to the world. I'll see you on the other side brother, pouring one out for Dustin tonight.
went to his stand up show in 2006. it did not go well and he very much seemed bitter about how his life had gone. it's nice to see that he seemed happier as time went on
a lot of child stars are like that... it's hard to achieve that level of fame as a kid/teenager and then suddenly be nobody. I don't blame him for being bitter
So Mario Lopez is usually smiling and very friendly. With Dustin you notice how he asks condescending questions like, "what did you think when you saw the saved by the bell reunion on the Tonight show?" Mario was really asking "how does it feel to not be invited, because we don't like you 😂." You'll also notice when he's interviewed Mark, aka Zack Morris, he's shaking hands, asking about his kids and family, asking about his jiu jitsu training, the love is there With Dustin he's cold and "professional" but in a weird condescending way
It looked like Mario wanted to punch Dustin all through out this interview! This has to be one of the most awkward interviews I've ever seen! Lol. I hate that Mario looked kind of smug when he asked Dustin how he felt when he wasn't included in the reunion. Like he was gloating or something. Not nice.
It's not surprising. Diamond said a lot of really awful and almost certainly untrue things about his castmates in his book, such as accusing Mark- Paul Gosselaar of taking steroids, claiming that Lark Voorhees was secretly in an abusive relationship, and claiming that Lopez himself was an oversexed pig who hopped in the sack with pretty much every female guest star on the show. So, yeah, Lopez has every right to be a little smug over Diamond not being included.
The shot of Mario just after :36 in he seems either pissed or disinterested, like his arm's moving like he's picking at his toes. But Mario seen anywhere else always has such a strong, positive energy and this is him dead inside. In my head I keep thinking Dustin called him and pleaded with him like, "Hey, I need to fake contrition, can you do me a solid and make it look more legitimate by being the interviewer?" Then Mario tried to get out of it for ten minutes until he finally caved and said, "Okay, I will just stay out of your way and go through the motions. I won't ask any followups and you can just say your piece so it's on record." Then Dustin comes on and just rattles off everything he's been holding inside forever so that he doesn't even sound sincere, quickly glossing over things with enough detail for them to sound like carefully constructed BS, and he's no better than before he started. But it's just a theory =)
Screech made me want Sweet and Sour squid everytime I went to Chinese food as a kid. Could never find it on any menu. Thanks for making me laugh everyday after school for 8 years.
Glad I came across this video. I’m happy I got to meet him a couple years back, got to take a photo wit him. Kinda crazy how I met him at a hood ass bar in Milwaukee lol.
I get the impression that Dustin would've been happier if he'd never been a child actor, if he'd been allowed to grow up and have a normal life with normal responsibilities, rather than having to live in the shadow of his childhood TV career.
I'm pissed at the Cast members. Uh. I hope it sinks in for them. Now they want sympathy after he dies they all know he was sick. And shame on lopez for acting like he doesn't know him makes me sick. Uh. I hope this sinks in. Stay well folks. R.I.P screeetch. ❤🙏

I don't know. They had zack
Agree! Without Dustin , it was just another teen show-Dustin made SBTB memorable
It was actually a horribly written show and also terrible acting 🤷
I’m watched this show religiously and the character screech was very irritating. Even watching it now , the character got in my nerves. But I am glad he was included but his lines were horribly written. He wasn’t a bad actor, it was generally a cheesy kid’s show.
@@aldenstallworth5504 right. He made the show!
He’s friends with Mark Paul. He isn’t friends with Dustin
I kind of feel bad for Dustin. Then when the show ended, he just became angry and his life just spiraled and he didn’t have any friends to bring him back from the brink
From what the saved by the bell set details, it sounds like it was a very superficial atmosphere full of young good looking teens who were told they were good looking, were treated like they were good looking and they knew they were good looking.
They did this because when they went to fan events, people would literally treat him like he was a dork-and that could be really really really destructive to a 14 year old kid
I think Mark, Mario, Elizabeth, Tiffani, Lark-all good looking people who were celebrated on all the teen glamour covers-should ask themselves, honestly, what kind of negative bullshit Dustin had to put up with in his teens that would turn him into a bitter, toxic and destructive adult. Art imitates life. And, in real life, teens who are alienated in junior high and high school for being a “dork” have a high high percentage of having mental health problems as an adult
EXACTLY! Thank you!!! You said it all perfectly.
Spot on!

Royce Mosley you realize questions are agreed upon before an actual interview, correct? If Dustin didn’t have an issue, why do you?

Hey Mario, your interviewing Dustin Diamond tonight.
Mario: Who?
Dustin Diamond, Screech from Saved By The Bell?
Mario: OK, whatever.
He absolutely was comedic gold on that show. It would ha e been forgettable without him. He deserves props for giving screech pathos and humor. 🎉
Imagine being the most typecast, iconic character from a popular, profitable, tv show. It’s hard for you to get work because of being so typecast, and then they LEAVE YOU OUT OF THE REUNION SHOW!!! Sorry he didn’t go on to be as successful as you others. Then you exclude him?? #bullies

Ive only seen clips on youtube from the horrendous reboot, reboot sux, they did him a favor, RIP Dustin, honestly, the show would not have been the success it was without him.
And Tiffany talks about Jennie Garth when she's done exactly the same 😔
Screetch definitely had the roughest role to play. They probably didn’t show him any love on set or in real life, so he vented in the book.
They didn't because Dustin was a few years younger, Mark Paul was a total dick to Dustin as well as the girl's we're minus Lark, Lark, Dennis, and Mario (some) are the one's who kept in touch with Dustin.
@Tum Tum actually.... it was even told on Saved by the Max that Dustin wasnt really as bad as people make him out to be, Mario is only nice bc hes now the biggest star... and Tiffany actually liked him

They were a bunch of kids in a really dumb show some 35 years ago. Calm down.
I can't blame him for acting this way since Dustin Diamond did write a book saying negative things about each of his cast mates. Do you expect them to just forget all the stuff that he said in his book especially since Dustin never retracted his comments or apologized?
How friendly would you be towards someone that wrote a book that said nasty things about you? lol
Lark was a beauty and really entertaining on the show ... I hope she can get back to normal soon
Yes,I agree
yeah i do recall Mario talking about Lark and commenting that she was a pretty girl and sweet - cant remember if that was on ET or some other show but yeah...its sad. Mark and the others never mention her - Dustin has and said one time they were doing some intervie for the Saved by the Bell DVDs and she wasnt the same Lark he knew. I'm not entirely sure that they were in the same room. Maybe someone else asked the questions and Mario filmed his part later.

Good call, I didn’t even notice that. Dustin’s audio seemed louder and clearer than Mario’s, like Dustin was miked up but they were only recording Mario’s voice in a room.
No,,they are in the same room because you can see Dustin's face in the shot showing Mario, unless they got some fancy blue screen technology.
There’s a picture of them together from this interview
Damn, that really hit 😢
Rest in peace brother. You made me laugh so hard as a kid and brought joy into the lives of so many through your craft.
Its hard to break away from such a character especially when you do it so well. Jaleel White had the same problem with Urkel.
We love you Shannon Kane and more importantly, Jesus does
Carrying the shame and guilt for releasing that book for over a decade would take quite the emotional toll.

So, yeah, Lopez has every right to be a little smug over Diamond not being included.
would you invite someone to your reunion if they'd been a douche even after they are " grown " up?
The shot of Mario just after :36 in he seems either pissed or disinterested, like his arm's moving like he's picking at his toes. But Mario seen anywhere else always has such a strong, positive energy and this is him dead inside.
In my head I keep thinking Dustin called him and pleaded with him like, "Hey, I need to fake contrition, can you do me a solid and make it look more legitimate by being the interviewer?" Then Mario tried to get out of it for ten minutes until he finally caved and said, "Okay, I will just stay out of your way and go through the motions. I get the impression that Dustin would've been happier if he'd never been a child actor, if he'd been allowed to grow up and have a normal life with normal responsibilities, rather than having to live in the shadow of his childhood TV career.
MARIO asking DUSTIN when he has seen any of the cast mates of saved by the bell recently😕😂
It should be implied that their interview doesn't count. It's a rhetorical question to get things going...
Grant420 amazing how people get caught up on things they know rather than what they don't know
I'm pissed at the Cast members. Uh. I hope it sinks in for them. Now they want sympathy after he dies they all know he was sick. And shame on lopez for acting like he doesn't know him makes me sick. Uh. I hope this sinks in. Stay well folks. R.I.P screeetch. ❤🙏
Well In Mario's defenese, he's interviewing him as if he doesn't know him but we all now he knows him.
The man was literally dead within 2 weeks of his diagnosis. They were all estranged and most of it was because of shit that Dustin did and said.
Mario: "What did you think of the Saved By The Bell reunion on the Tonight Show?"
Dustin: "I wish i could have been a part of it. Ya know, I didn't even know it was going on until it was already done"
We all felt that one. Ouch.
Damn its sad he didn't even get to go the reunion.. Wow r.i.p.
There is no official reunion without screech. Just a gathering
