So strange, woke up this morning and suddenly remembered Omar (I'm 74 now), so dug out my record and had a lovely day listening to the only record I have of him - he really has a great voice - shame I never hear other records of him - he's definitely underrated.
Still love this as much as ever. Javone Prince Show (bbc) had Omar on a lot. Not disposable music like so much these days. ❤ Am 70, got a girly to enjoy it with...
It’s the spring / summer of 1991 and I’m 18, in love with a boy and enjoying the freedom of being young with everything in front of me. Life was spontaneous and full of good times. Whenever I hear that introductory bass line I’m transported right back to that blissful time.
I was one years old. This song is my mum and dad at a family party slow wining together in the British sunshine me thinking I hope I have this when I'm older! Me being 34 still waiting for da man to slow wine to dis tune wid😭
I was 7. Living in Pittsburgh, PA. So, yeah. Never would have heard of him or this song without the Outlaws TV show! #Omar #Outlaws #NothingLikeThis 2024!! >>>
Yes vox populi I agree. And beyond the nineties. Because I've not heard anyone do anything like it since. There's still nothing like this; a combo of heart tugging lyrics and couples dancing bass. It's a bit like a good reggae lovers rock tune in that way.😊😊
Hello Omar! I'm a singer from Brazil, but when I met you, I didn't even dream about it ... I lived in a little room at the back of a house, in a difficult situation, I only had a mattress, I barely ate right because I was depending on a boss who lived in front house. My only joy was listening to the radio, there was a small radio clock that I left on the side of the mattress on the floor. Here in Brazil there is an excellent radio called "Eldorado fm". She who introduced you to me. After that, when things got better, I started singing, I started a funk / soul band and included that song and "I guess" in the set list. I even have the audio we recorded here on youtube. We didn't get to play anywhere, we stopped, a lot of water rolled under the bridge, I had a problem with my voice, I got well and now I'm coming back. Behold, I came looking for some songs to record and I came across you again. I just want to tell you that I really like your sound, your voice tone is beautiful. Thanks for the grooves. Hugs from Brazil 🇧🇷
Heres one if anyone cares to listen. I bought this back in the day. 12 inch. I have just met with the one Lady who I have ever truly loved. This is the third time we have been together and its 30 years later. Love can sometimes mean we choose different paths but eventually we come together and have a greater understanding of what love is. I know I am going to Marry her, .... there is nothing like this...... For me and Mine. OMAR..... this is for me, one of the most beautiful songs ever sung. Thank you Brother for helping me hear
This song is a time machine that transports my mind to days of youth as a 19 year old soldier. The melody reminds me of lying beside my beautiful German lover. The smell of her hair, touch of her skin, the passion in her eyes. When we met we were on borrowed time, as I was going back stateside in 6 months. When I was introduced to her I told her ”don't fall in love with me.” We both laughed, but the last day I saw her there were tears. She was about 4 or 5 years older than me, and had been in a few more relationships than I had. This was my first ”grown woman" not a girl but a woman. The sad thing is she thought I was joking about leaving. In her mind, I was planning a way to get away from her if things didn't work out. She was wrong, it tore me to leave her. I told her not to fall in love, but I should have taken my own advice.
Nice...some people never experience that true love for someone all their lives..like you I consider myself lucky to have loved and lost but those feelings never die...they are with you forever...life can be so hard sometimes...
I heard he wrote this tune in his room and he asked his parents to remortgage their house cause he knew this tune was gonna be a hit and everything turned out to be true in the end 👌🏾👊🏾👏🏾🙏🏾👍🏾🇯🇲
It's disappointing not to have known of this great artist? I simply love this song! It's a unique vibe of R&B, Jazz, Soul, with a Carribean, Sultry yet acoustic taste to it!!
Sip a glass of cold champagne wine The rug that we lie on feels divine And there's no parallel for we two Ecstasy the word of the night Ringing in our ears, we're inflight There's no substitution For what we have No others can have There's nothing like this There's nothing like this No one could ever have What we have There's nothing like this The lightest conversation has its flow Aural communication, don't you know And I feel quite content right now Stick with me and we'll make history An exclusive pair in love we will be There's no substitution For what we have No others can have
This is such a hugely underrated classic!!! Omar's voice is so smooth, and the whole flow of the song is just so chilled out and mellow. Perfect tune!!!
Truly truly We need a revival of this and other sounds from the UK. Even 2000s children are saying they love these tunes. It "Says something" pun intended Peace
I attended so many weddings in the 99s and this was the first dance for the bride and groom. Beautiful song, his voice just flows. Seen him in concert even better. One of the UK finest.
I once saw Omar sing this live in my classroom back when I was in primary school. I was taught by his mum when I was 6 years old. Hearing this again takes me back to them good old days when I didn't have a care in the world.
The Summer of 1991! This song, Lenny Kravitz 'It ain't over till its over, Cher 'Love and Understanding' and of course, The summer where Bryan Adams besieged the radiowaves of the UK for 16 weeks.
You know when a song pops in your head all of sudden from out of nowhere and you have to listen to it right this instant? That’s what brought me here in 2023. Still sounds so good….a smooth underrated classic!
Definitely not a soul/RnB fan but this is song was a really good one: nicely composed, light melody and orchestration and seriously good and natural voice. Along the same line as equally beautiful 'First Time' by Bakar recently. Left a mark on its time and is so much better that today's crap!
1989 first time aired. Black British Soul music was solid back then...Omar is still as Solid as back then, and I’m following him since then. Now it is March 2020. Deserves much more public recognition for his contribution to music. No one hit wonder here. Just pure love for his art form. And it shows in his music
It's 1991 - I'm hearing this jam everywhere ; Ritzy in Tottenham , Zero Six & TOTS in Southend, and I'm thinking there's nothing like this - and I was right, though here in June 2024 I'm more than content with my lot but I feel sorry for this generation that missed out on the 1980s and 1990s era.

one of my all time favourite tunes, across genres, time lines, eras. I remember EXACTLY where I was and what I was doing the day I first heard this song and it always takes me to a happy, easy, peaceful space. Brixton, South London 1990, July. The summer before University. Going to meet my mates after going to the gym.Awesome tune for a time capsule. As good as that moment was, Im loving and living this one too with my family, my children who are the age that I was then and watching the wheel of life turn from one generation to the next.
