    I wonder if Erin's "Tastes like the Outside" is the same as my "Birds Nest" note 🤔

      That math checks out. It’s like faint, airy earthiness that’s quite pleasant.

    Thanks for this video! I started a whiskey club where we do 4-5 way blinds once a month and we have danced around the idea of getting a dusty to add to the mix. Since neither of you were really blown away, I'll prolly pass on a $300 bottle and stick with tasting things we can get on the shelf now.

    I found a WT101 from 2013 on a store shelf fairly recently. I was shocked it was just sitting there! 🥃

    Thanks for doing this episode! It's great to see a tasting like this done properly blind.

    I am new to bourbon and recently bought WT 101 because of the high praises you have given it. As an inexperienced bourbon drinker, I love it and will continue to buy.

      The 101 is one of my "standards" - whiskies that I'll definitely buy over and over. 🥃

    I just got my first bottle of WT101 at Thanksgiving, partially because of the praises you both give it. I was not disappointed! Definitely a quality pour and bargain for the price.

    Never had the old WT101. It's always on my shelf; solid budget pour.

    Thanks for the review. On the scotch side, I find that Johnny Walker Red from more than two decades ago is much better than what the latest Red has now. This is why I prefer Johnny Walker Black. I don't have enough experience on the bourbon side of whiskey to tell if the older versions of a bottle are better. But, I do expect younger age and lower proof rarely equals the quality of bottles by the same brand that are 'mature' and proofed at 100 and higher.

    Nice comparison. The most interesting 101 head to head I have done is 2012 bottling vs 2013. There are many differences between those even though they are 2 years apart. The 2012 is a lot more mouth coating with more spice, oak, and richness. 2012 was the last year of Wild Turkey 12 year 101 proof in the US so it makes sense that 2012 and earlier 101 shelfers could have older stocks blended in.

    I got a older partial bottle of WT101 from our tasting club. It was hands down better than the new make on the shelf now.

    Great video! I remember the older WT101 as better, but I really enjoy current 101. And - please - don’t be mean to Erin!

    This was an interesting matchup. I've got an old and new bottle stashed away for this exact reason. Now it's just a 10 year waiting game.

    I have a 101 and a Rare Breed that I discovered in the back of the hall closet. They must be over 15 yrs old. They have been opened about that amount of time and are still excellent. Compared the 101to a new 101 about a month ago and the old 101 was so much much better than the new 101. The Rare Breed proof is 108.2. Will get a new bottle and do a taste test. Enjoy the channel.

    I’ve got a bottle with the large paper turkey label. I like it better than the new label offerings too.

    I have one of those little 1/10 of a pint bottles of Old #7 that's sitting on my desk as I'm typing this. It's probably circa 1982 as that's when I turned 21. The old paper tax stamp is still there, it's just not attached to the bottle anymore just the cap.

    If I remember right y'all did a similar video a while back, except the blind samples were the first two ounces from the bottle, and the last two ounces. I *think* that was Wild Turkey 101 too. At any rate, whoever it was - and as I say, I think it was y'all - didn't recognize it as being from the same bottle. It seems to me that no matter what precautions a distillery puts in place, simple flavor drift would mean that over time the same bourbon would taste at least a little different, without any other factors coming into play.

      I think it depends how you want to define better. The Old McDonald's french fries tasted better than the new ones... but they were made with oil that is FAR less healthy than todays. So is that better or worse? Houses certainly aren't built like they used to be, but there are certainly safer as far as fire risk. I would say vaccines and medicine are better... I know we're just being silly in the comment section, but I think almost everything is better if you aren't defining better in a way that favors your argument. Right now is without doubt, the best time in the history of the planet to be alive. Doesn't stop us from complaining and finding new things to be upset about.

    • @BigBadJerryRogers
      @BigBadJerryRogers ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RocketSauce666if something is far less healthy but tastes a lot better, it should be done in the less healthy way so long as people are made aware.

    • @ILuvRum
      @ILuvRum ปีที่แล้ว

      French fries hardly exist to be "healthy" and normally one who is interested in their health avoids them for the most part, hence for the purpose they exist, they are not necessarily "better"
      Houses are highly variable and subjective depending on where you are a where you live. In the desert southwest among other places its hard to beat traditional adobe construction for efficiency and likely fire resistance
      I agree medications and medicines have taken a leap forward but would argue that the field of medicine has taken a big step back post ACA (Obamacare).
      It truly does depend on your perspective. Is a washing machine that lasts for twenty or more years better than one that is more affordable but expected to be "disposable" after 5 years? Having choices is better.
      While Josh and Erin have given us good evidence and information indicating whiskey is indeed different now than then, one thing that is demonstrably better now, at least in this country (U.S.), is the quality and selection of our domestic wine and beer.@@RocketSauce666
