I loved these when they came out. That 2.7 wasn’t strong enough for this heavy of a car though. And yes they weren’t reliable. The 3.5 was better but the 5.7 in one of these was the way to go. The 2.7 performed best in the Sebring/ stratus which were much lighter.

Second comment: My best friend at the time, his dad had a silver 300. It was a mid trim model with the larger V6, and the wheels were these weird looking solid dinner plates without any distinguishable spokes. The higher up you go in trims, the more luxurious it gets with the wood trim and wood steering wheel. The stereo I believe was Boston Acoustics?
These cars had such a road presence that just doesn't exist anymore in today's SUV riddled roads. I would seriously buy one of these today if they weren't such a reliability nightmare.
Lastly, I remember the sun reflecting off all those chrome accents on the dials and gauges and shifter in the interior. It looks nice, but man, my eyes! Lol

In my country (Singapore), Chrysler 300s were used as limo taxis. Most taxis in Singapore at the time were diesel powered, so the 300 used a 3.0 litre turbodiesel V6 from Merc. I remember sitting in one when I was younger and I legitimately thought it was the most boujee car I've sat in. The flagdown rate for those taxis weren't cheap though at $5.

I just recently sold my 2010 Chrysler 300C for a 2021 Mazda 3 Turbo AWD Hatch, I miss the black pearl quite a bit the 5.7L Hemi was so much fun to thrash. I dropped it on BC Racing coilovers and it on some proper summer slicks it looked and felt great. I owned it for nearly 5 years and it didn't ever let me down, I got a surprising amount of attention and compliments from it as well clean first gens are getting a lot less common. Best first car I think I could've possibly gotten I wish I could've justified keeping her. The 2.7L, the 3.5L and 4 speed suck, in my experience though the 5.7L and 5 speed NAG1 hold up pretty well just make sure it was well taken care of and it should do you well.

I had one of these as a rental when I interviewed for a job in Newport News in 2006. Coming from a Mazda 3 and Honda Accord, it seemed strangely oversized and claustrophobic at the same time, thanks to the small windows. The quality of the interior plastics and trim was also remarkably bad for what was supposed to be a luxury car. Thanks, Doctor Zee, for crapifying Chrysler products so they didn't encroach on the luxury of Mercedes!

I take issue with the 2.7 6 cylinder engine when everyone condemns it for being what it is! Does it have problems? Yes, but not if you know enough about maintenance if you own one! I have a 2002 Dodge Intrepid with 126000 miles on it that also has that same engine and I have NEVER had a problem with it! I've owned the car since new and I still love it as much as I did when I brought it home!!! The engine is routinely maintained every 3-4ooo miles!!! No sludge, no water pump issues...NOTHING!!!! So, go ahead and belittle that engine till the cows come home, and I'll still be driving mine around!!!

One of the earliest memories with one was when I was 4 and my dad’s larger friend gave us a ride in it brand new, and he said “you like the car little man?” And to which i responded “yes i do! Too bad you’re too fat to fit in it” and my parents never forgot that moment

Antilock brakes were optional on this generation of 300, one of the last cars where ABS wasn't standard. There's a chance this car doesn't have ABS. I remember watching Jeremy Clarkson reviewing one of these, though his probably wasn't the base model. The white-faced Indiglo gauges still look classy. I'm curious what this car's story is, why the buyer ordered a base model and why it has so few miles. It's pretty clean with the exception of the Midwest rust.
Cloth seats should be optional on every trim. Cloth seats don't get burning hot in the summer, don't get freezing cold in the winter, breathe well, and don't require regular conditioning.

Good review. The 2.7 was one of the biggest contributor to destroying Chrysler's reputation (along with the ultradrive). I never understood why they put that powerless, inefficient, unreliable, unrefined engine in the LX cars. I drove one as a rental and it wouldn't even chirp the tires.
If they wanted an engine below the 3.5, they should have used the bulletproof 3.3 OHV. Those had decent low end torque to haul a heavy car around while getting decent fuel economy.
I remembered that the base 300 had cloth interior. This was the consequence of making one model to replace both the 300M and Concorde. The Concorde was made in the tradition of the Newport (a Plymouth offering under a Chrysler label). This undercut the luxury image of the caring a person was spending at the time $45k for a top of the line SRT model which looked similar to the $24k base model (the cheapening of the interior Daimler did also didn't help either).

You could bet 1,000,000 on an American made car not truck car that last 200,000m. You would get your money worths

Not even close to a first gen 300. For the LX platform in 05 yes but in general no. I owned 2 LH based ones. I had 2 02 300M Specials 3.5L HO of course here in the states the Euro spec could be had with the 2.7. I also had an 02 Intrepid R/T 3.5 HO and my first car when I was 12 was a 96 Intrepid ES 3.5. Great cars but the 2.7 was terrible. Get one with the 3.5 and it's great. I also had an 08 300C SRT8 6.1L very fun. Also they never had a 6 speed they had the nag1 5 speed and in 2012 they introduced the german ZF 8 speed
