I'm living in La Palma since January 2020, I rode this climb an uncountable times. But there's much more on this gorgeous island, which offers hard climbs and technical descends with practically no flat stretches. Vehicular traffic is scarce and every driver has a huge respect for cyclists. The weather is mild almost every month, no hot summers nor frosty winters. A real paradise !! I own a bike shop here (Alba Nueva Bike) that offers several services, including bike rental. Always keep on ridin' guys !! 🚴🏻♂🚴🏻♂🚴🏻♂
Couldn't agree more, La Palma is absolutely sensational! We'll be back next summer for an extended time! So much to see and explore! Got another video from the island coming soon, I think many will enjoy it too (even if it did nearly kill me!)
@@TheColCollective how long does it takes you to reach the top? And I love your videos I always look forward to them. I still watch the descent you did some yrs back.. the one with the music (bullet train)... Oh and my condolences to you. Your videos are an inspiration and motivation for me... 👍👍👍👍
Hey Alba!, borrowed a bike from you in Jan....planning to relocate there asap..in progress, but slowly...also been several times to the top of the world...
Honestly, I've ridden so many of these climbs because of the beauty and inspiration that Mike shows in the production of these videos over the years, my favourite TH-cam channel.
We're from Derby but move between living in fuerteventura and uk (irish passport). Been to La Palma and fortunately made that journey to observatories. Fantastic memories. Well done.
Mike Cotty - You have the best and most inspiring biking videos on TH-cam. You are a beast and do climbs that are far beyond this old man, but I share your love of being on the bike and being as strong as I can be. Please keep sharing your climbing adventures with us regular humans!
Thank you so much for your appreciation and positivity, it means a great deal to me. As long as you’re watching I’ll try and keep making these videos. Ride safe and thank you again 🙏🏻
The Roque de los Muchachos closes the Caldera de Taburiente in its northern area. It was formed due to the strong push that the deep magma exerted on some flows, lifting and fracturing them. Later the rest of the massif disappeared in the depression that is now La Caldera, due to large landslides due to the effect of gravity, completed by the erosive effect of the waters. It borders the municipality of El Paso, with some buttresses within La Caldera de Taburiente that geologically support their summits. Spectacular Mike!, the Newton telescope and the views from the top where the islets of La Palma, Gomera and Hierro can be clearly seen. The transvulcanica bike gran marathon is held every year on this side of the natural park;)
You are back in style! Thanks for the epic video and inspiration. Also saw your behind the scenes adventure in the making of this epic!! That’s another video waiting to be released 😂
Up there is another sight. The blue and green lakes. Remember in 1971 when the boat stopped here as I emigrated to Australia. A bus tour took us up to them. That was pretty high as well.
Another great video👌👍🎉🎉 and another climb to add to the list😎. Just watched the new “ gravel video” on Wahoo SYSTM….fantastic, will have to take the gravel bike next time I go to Gran Canaria🤓.
An awesome ride....quiet and beautiful, good call out on the lack of any water/shops up the ride as well as at the top. you have to take care with what you carry but better to have extra than trying to go light.
I did some of my Astrophysics degree work top of Mount Teide in Tenerife with one of the big telescopes, the landscape there is amazing and exactly as you described like being on the moon. The skies are incredible. La Palma looks incredible too.
Wow, it would be amazing to study more astrophysics in the Canary Islands, the sky is simply incredible. La Palma is a beautiful island. Highly recommended. 👍🏼
One of my favourite climbs and expert and inspirational footage from The Col Collectiive as always 👍 Curious to know which island you are yet to ride? I’ve done them all apart from El Hierro which is the hardest to get to 😊
Davvero un video che merita tantissimi complimenti 👏, bravissimo come sempre e meravigliosa questa salita 🤩. Mi viene in mente di portarmi la gravel e stare tre mesi alle Canarie 😍
Wow! Just nuts. I'm used to your excellent camera work but wasn't expecting to see a cycling video where one has views looking down at the clouds! This is not just a great cycling video, but a fantastic travel video as well. The telescopes are impressive. I can see how a gravel bike would give you lower gears, but am wondering why you didn't go with lightweight slick tires, given that the road is so nice, and that the climb is so challenging!
Thanks so much for your appreciation! It’s an incredible road, my video only captures so much, the reality is even more inspiring. For the bike, I was in the Canary Islands for a few weeks and wanted to do some gravel too, and could only travel with one bike. Glad you enjoyed the video ☺️
@@TheColCollective Mr. Cotty, keep it going, you're true "Cycling Inspiration and Education" and that's all it matter! Your goal, and our delight! My only "complaint" is that you are making my bucket list longer, while time is not on my side. So be it! With all your exquisite filming and pedaling
Tienes que subir la que seguramente es una de las subidas mas duras del mundo, creo que la segunda mas dura LLANO DE LAS ANIMAS, 15KM con medias del 12,5% y con tramos de mas del 20%
For this one I was on a gravel bike, not necessarily needed for this climb as it’s on road. That said the road conditions are a bit sketchy in places so not a bad choice overall. 👌🏼
