Fun fact: flightgear is fully open source, which means it (and all its airports and planes) are entirely built, maintained and developed by the community. Anyone with a computer can access the source code for the physics engine or any other aspect of this sim
Note: This is "free as in speech", not just free of charge, licensed under the GNU GPL. That's pretty awesome!

Something I really like with this one is the community. It has that (smaller) open source project chillness to it. No one is under any delusion this stands up to the big names so it's just people doing what they can in a more community run project. And it's managed to gain a considerable amount of good development resultingly.

You have to mention, that this simulator does have mp, and there are more than 400 planes available in the Launcher, so you don't ned to download them from internet. When you change the settings, also the water looks much better. There are wildfire animations too, and for flying an airport, you just net to know the IACO code. The newest version does even have volcano animations and tide. And it is open-source!

FG was the first flight simulator i played, back in 2010, my dad even give me a joystick. His dream is for me to become a pilot, but I ended up becoming a photojournalist, so I kind of disappointed him. But hey, he's still proud of me, I think LOL

Since flightgear is open source, you can literally change every aspect of the game, from graphics to gameplay. You can retexture the entire game by modifying the generic textures, install better shaders and enb presets. Flightgear has the point for modability.
But you can't make it good. It looks absolutely awful.

Finally, a somewhat decent review about FlightGear compared to the unacceptable trash-talking video of a couple years ago. Although I can tell you that you can get much better graphic quality if only you would put more than 30 minutes into knowing the sim.
Someone in the comment suggest checking "HDR Pipeline", it is how future Flightgear graphics looks like, they are amazing

Hey swiss001! I think you should record FG after a year and compare what has changed. And a lot has changed. Currently most changes have been made in the nightly version :) .
to prime a cesna in this game is pretty easy(because i have done this).First you prime the engine 3 times or 4 times. Second you put the mixture to rich(100 percent)Last you hold "S" until u hear lawn mower noises.

Btw you can get aircraft from the actual simulator by going to aircraft and then looking at browse. And also you can press download scenery in settings to fly all around the world without downloading scenery packs! And also if you enabled real world live weather then that might be why the winds were strong. And btw to unpause you press “p” smh 🤦♂️
the scenery autodownload is nice. urban areas still look weird though - like a continuous plane of buildings seen through a window awkwardly cut into the ground. remember years ago before that was integrated and you had to run the terrasync daemon manually that would poll your location from the http api and download the scenery files from subversion?

That sim has a development of more than 10 years now to perform its best on Linux systems, where it was born. It is developed by flight Sim enthusiasts and pilots and game developers all over the world, who want to keep open source better than Microsoft and who loved that idea and stuff. By the way, you have to change the sensitivity inside the config file itself, but there are descriptions around but they might not be here on TH-cam. But getting used to it will put a smile on your face.
It's been in development since 1996 by the way, that's 25 years, not 10.

Especially compared to the default C172 which has great systems but the torque of several F4U Corsairs because of its kinda shit FDM

If you cannot start the plane you can autostart but it is good if you start manually because all planes do not have autostart in IRL

They have damage, visual damage, simulated flight damage behavior, and replay.
So far, it seem far superior than MFS2020, minus the visual.
And the sheer amount of planes and vehicles,(by vehicles I mean follow me cars, pushback, snowplow truck,Etc.
The visual actually got an improvement for version 2020.4, the newest one. The Compositor render engine adds shadows, and with it you can use HDR.

heyy swiss! check out juhu aerodrome (VAJJ) It has a 3750ft runway right in the middle of the city right next to main airport with almost the same runway config which has led to some serious incidents

On my pc the sim is really bugged i dont mean the aircraft i mean the city is extreamly wierd. Amd how did you do ot that you start in the air with engines running i always start on a Taxi way with engines out

for FG players, which aircraft is your fave? Mine r those developed by IDG due to the details and butter smooth autoland function.
Mine is g91 developed by abassign and mada00
No idea what settings you have there and what the 2018 version offers, but 2020 with high details on looks relatively fine to me. However I do experience some lags when switching views too, but only if there is a scene to render that was not displayed already/recently which makes sense. Of course Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is much better especially regarding the graphics, but not really playable on Linux - so not for me :).

to start a cessna, you will want to turn on master power. then turn on fuel pumps. then turn on your taxi lights. then put mixture. puting a little power. then start i thnk? i dont really know. i will haft to play flight sim again

u should download FG 2020 version instead for better water simulation (or graphics in general). and if u r good in programming and 3D modelling u can actually build ur own aircrafts and modify any aircraft, maps, and airports and share them with the world :)
