When this happens, the natural hum from your power transformer is no longer being phase canceled by the tube that just died. Check you ground cables, pull em off, clean em up, reinstall. Could be a bad connection.

I learned to check different plug sockets years ago when I lived in a flat where the kitchen light switch and fridge was on the same ring main as the wall socket I was using for my amp.. drove me mental and honestly wanted to bin the amp at times.

That sounds like 120hZ to me. Actually, a little lower. Probably like 100Hz. Weird

It might be cheaper buying an AC power conditioner before trashing the amp also.

No, this amp has Magnetostriction dude, no power conditioner will solve the issue.

@@DaveBarlowGuitar It might not solve it completely but may reduce the hum. Magnetostriction is when the plates of the transformer start to delaminate due to the magnetic field increasing the physical dimensions of the transformer correct? And this causes the plates to now vibrate erratically (especially on cheaper made transformers)? So it would make sense that if a power conditioner standardises the AC going in to say 110/220/240V and 50/60hz (whatever you're countries voltages), instead of the 265V or slightly varying frequency, the transformer may stop vibrating somewhat (depending on what frequency is setting it off).
I didn't say it would solve the problem, but it's worth a shot before trashing the amp.
BTW It might pay to look around for a switchmode replacement power supply. Depending on the amps used DC voltages, Ive seen plenty dual rail supplies from +-50/70v with +-15v preamp rails too. Now whether you can fit the board in place of the original transformer is another story.
