This video is excellent and shows the complexity of the fishing industry which most people do not appreciate. I shall be tweeting it!

1:13, Iain Harcus. Correction needed there, the Aalskere might work out of Peterhead but she's an Orkney owned boat. I work for Iain's dad at the creels.

I don't get it, in the beginning they are talking about how the hours are longer and the pay is less, but in the end they say the opposite

@@johngy40 Ohh he was batshit crazy! Heard a story of him from many years ago where there was a leak in the engine room. instead of taking a week off to get it fixed, he just bought 2 extra pumps so they wouldent miss out on the sometimes short sand eel fishing.. But most skippers/captains from the northern end of Denmark are absolut nutcases :p

Time to ban commercial fishing. Dozens of fish are thrown back dead for every fish you see in the supermarket. Maybe once the seas are empty, people will look back and ask why nothing was done

Animal agriculture causes ocean dead zones due to overfishing, pollution and climate change which is ruining marine ecosystems.
Fishing has wiped out 90% of the world's large fish.
Approx. 300,000 dolphins, whales, and porpoises are killed by fishing operations every year.
Fishing kills up to 30,000 sharks every hour.
Dumping the fishing gear (640,000 tonnes per year) is by far the deadliest form of marine plastic. Dwarfing the straws.
$35 Billion in subsidies goes to the fishing industry worldwide - paying for bigger ships, more fuel, fishing licences, and the capture of even more marine life.
For comparison budget NASA is $22 billion.
