Hey Mark I live in Kingston and hit the lake 5 or 6 times for jugging cats, 1 thing I use y'all could try is a snake hook about 36" long great for hooking lines
I like to jug my small river close to my house. I go a mile up stream an throw out the jugs, then go down stream to a sandbar and wait for the jugs to come to me. After the first couple go by I head up stream to see why the others aren’t coming, sometimes snagged, other times fish on.
