Mr.David... i really have been using that Pool RX for 2 years and i have saved a lot of money and time... really is well worth the time to buy it on the internet i saved about $30 and it got here fast. i do not use that phos free any more no need to. and what a real pain each week to install 4 OZ of that or was it 8OZ a week ??? can't remember oh well it has been 2 years since i have use phos free... and i did save about $45 every 6 months just on not buying that... so happy i follow you in you tube. you see i have a in ground 15K gallon pool made in 1967 by Sun Set Pools and it is the best pool for us...
PH is a very big killer of a pool.... you must check this each week .... Another Great Video Mr.David... you really the best on internet... and i been using that Pool RX and it is great..
@@SPLso happy i saw your video on pool RX... now leslies pool supply stopped selling pool RX. for $85 so i when on the net and found it at $55 and got it like in 2 days... then a month later leslies pool supply started selling it again??? it was the same Pool RX so now i am much happy man... internet it will be.... save save save...
i need to study more on your Alkalinity and what it really is and testing and correctness of quality and trouble shooting and correction of it... Thanks Mr. David... moving forward.
Have you heard of the Hamilton Index? It's a totally different way to maintain a pool. The benefits are more effective chlorine, and much less scaling and calcium deposits. I have a couple of pools on my route on that index, and say good bye to calcium deposits. It's a little counter-intuitive to have such high PH levels, but it really works. Check it out. Also thanks for your vids and the help you give us all.
I've heard of it it. United Chemical has a lot to say about it on their website and we had a discussion about it at the Trade Show last year. It just seems odd to me. But with high calcium hardness like here in Ca. it might be worth a look. It just seems like the TA levels are too low. unitedchemicalcorp.com/hamilton-index/
I just moved to a place that has a pool. The PH has been historically high. I have used muriatic acid to lower the TA to 80 over the last few weeks. I first had TA at 130, then 120, 110, 100, 90, 80 and found that the PH was always rising. With the TA at 80 the PH seems to have elevated to 8.0 recently. The pool has been clear all along. I am wondering if I need to keep adding muriatic acid or what I need to do. The pool is plaster, use liquid chlorine, and have a spa spillover even with normal filtration, which I know all raise PH. A copper algecide was used in the pool a couple months ago. If you could let me know what your thoughts are. I am just afraid that if I keep adding acid weekly, the TA will drop below 80 and if I will have problems. I have read that the TA is an alkalinity buffer, but also read that it's more important to control PH over TA. Please let me know! Thanks in advance!
Please answer this as I have the same issue and I’m worried about damaging my gunite pool. My Ph rises from 7.4 to 8.0 in a week I’ve tried keeping my TA hi and low but was told I would be causing damage keeping it low at about 50 please help. For the person who said use tablets that is all bad it just raises your cya and I don’t want to do that it’s perfect where I have it at now
Can you please make a video on ph rising because of a spillway. The problem I have is I only have one pump the return lines go to both pool and spa. I keep the return valve at 50/50 and suction side at 100% pulling from the pool. The problem I have is my ph rises fast and I believe it’s from the spillway creating aeration created so I’m trying to figure out how I should keep my valves to get proper circulation and minimize aeration to keep my ph more stable and from rising as quickly as it does... thank you please help I couldn’t find anything anywhere online
The spa doesn't need that much flow. Maybe reduce the spa return down to a minimum. Adding borates to the pool and having a borate level of 30-50 ppm helps buffer the pH as well.
First of all, I would like to say I like your videos and they are very informative. I have a 30,000 gal inground pebble surface pool with a Pentair salt system. I am using a Lamotte color q 7 and a ZenTest® PC60-Z Smart Multi-Parameter Pocket Tester Kit, and I use the Orenda calculator. Additionally, I am at 40 PPM with Borates and use Orenda CV600. My current readings 3.0 Chlorine, 7.8PH ,330Calcium, 100ALK, 35 CYA, 5830 ppm TDS, 4100PPM salt. That being said, I have a couple of questions. 1: I find my self being high 7.8 -7.9 PH all the time. I am using about 10 oz - 15 oz of acid every day or sometimes every other day. I tend to keep it around 7.7 -7.8, so I can be in good LSI. Is that normal for a saltwater pool? 2. Is adding acid on a consistent base like that safe? 3. It seems to me like my pool water is fizzy, or when you jump in or splash, the water is very air bubbly. It is not foamy or anything like that. Water is beautiful a clear. Any experiences with this type of situation. 4. I find my salt to be at 4,100 PPM, and my TDS 5830 PPM does that sound about right with TDS? I hope you can help out. Thank you,
Yes, with a salt pool pH will always creep up. You may have a bit too much salt in the water creating the fizzy issue. Try draining a little water to get the salt down to 3500 ppm. Adding acid multiple times a week is safe.
Thank you for the useful video. I recently setup one of those inflatable Coleman spa/hot tub with a capacity of 250 gallons. I am using a bromine based sanitizer. I have a 5 way test kit. My last test indicated the Bromine was too high, the PH was really high (purple water), and Alkaline was a little low. I was able to bring the alkalinity into proper levels with 2 oz. of baking soda. I rechecked and bromine still high (I'm leaving the cover off to allow some bromine to escape and removed the chemical floater). PH still high, there is an acid demand test but I stopped after 10 drops. The included chart only goes up to 7 drops. I repeated the tests several times. So my questions are. Is there an order in which you should balance your water? Should I get the PH in balance before Alkalinity? Does it matter? I realize the chemicals used will affect both PH and Alkalinity. Is it possible/common for the PH to be too high (solution to add acid) and the alkalinity to be too low (add Baking Soda which is slightly basic). Are the high bromine levels affecting the PH test? - Again goes to order of balancing the properties. Sorry for the long post, just want to get this right and thanks again for your videos!
Adjusting the Alkalinity first in a spa is better. This will prevent the pH from bouncing too or too low. Just don't add any Bromine until it drops down. It shouldn't affect the pH test at high levels.
I'm a new pool owner and I brought my pool water to Leslie to get it tested and I have a high PH. They told me to pour half a bottle of muriatic acid around my pool and let the pump run for 8 hours. The next day I brought another sample of my pool water for them to test it again and my PH reading is still high. Any recommendation on how to lower my PH beside pouring in more acid? My pool size is 28000 gallon.
I added a granite rock feature to my pool. the granite boulders come out of the water to a nice grotto waterfall. I also use a copper ion sterility system. after adding the granite to the pool I notice the PH is very very sensitive. pool seems to love higher PH and I'm adding acid 2x a week. the copper system needs alkalinity of 70-90 to operate optimally. been a struggle since tge granite rocks came into the picture
Hello. I have a salt pool of 12300 gal. D.E filter and used a pentair ic40 and I always have it on 40% to keep my chlorine between 3-4. But I keep having trouble with my ph it’s always on 8.2-8.5. I have been adding daily 20-25oz of muriatic acid. Also the phosphate levels are on the 300s and i have added (2) 13oz phosphate free treatments over the past 2 weeks. Alk is always on the 120-150. What is the recommendation to do. I used to have someone that would clean my pool for the past 4 yrs. but decided to do it my self. The pool guy would add tablets on the skimmers and Leslie’s told me that was the worst thing to do. I have been going to Leslie’s almost once a week to ck my water. Any recommendations. Maybe you could try using chlorine tablets since he said they have a very low pH of 2 instead of using the liquid chlorine.

are the discs expensive for the spin test one.? i do 108 pools a weeek and i kinda like that spin test.
Yes. About $2.50 a disk or .25 cents each test factor.
Thank you

What is the pH reading and the Alkalinity?
it might be good to check your filter and make sure all skimmers and pump baskets are free of leaves and debris .

Yes. Granite is classified as a natural alkali meaning it has a high pH. Not sure exactly what but between 7.5 and 14.

Can u shock and add ph up at the same time
Yes, that is perfectly fine.
And how long should I wait to test again
3-4 hours with pool running during that time period
Ok thanks it’s just I’m learning about the chemicals that’s why I’m asking a lot questions to different pool guy
Guys
And plus i shock my pool once a week And always find the ph low to know ph
I didnt know using the chlorine tablets lower the ph
Yes, they have a pH of around 4 so they will lower it.
So is it better to not use them
lol here in greece the tap water is so bad i have to check the ph every 3 days and add acid to correct the high ph
Crazy!
Thanks, .. good information. will let our pool guys know about it.
Sure thing. 👍

That means it is very low. Go to Walmart and purchase a box of Borax and pour it in. Or you can use Baking Soda. Raise it up as soon as possible
