You are an incredible interviewer. I was in traffic in union New Jersey, not newark, but I appreciated you making the time fly.

Hey Tripp, thank you for the podcast! I stumbled upon your work a few weeks ago. Today’s episode spoke to me profoundly. I always new my calling, walked in it for a while, then crashed and burned. It devastated me. I always felt I was “supposed” to “do it again” but have struggled painfully with “Resistance” and “imposter syndrome” feelings. Listening to your podcast today with Steven gave me a new perspective on the “resistance” that I’ve been fighting through for years. I’ve almost considered it a “sign” I was NOT supposed to pursue that dream again. But after listening, I feel I really need to spend time with my calling more, and change my perspective about resistance. I’ve served in Hospice for years and I’ve seen too many people at the end of their life regretting never pursuing their dreams. I don’t want that said about me. Thanks again for the honest, authentic, conversations! Wishing you the best! - Jeff

Thanks for sharing this, Jeff. Resistance is indeed simply part of the process. It's what we experience as we move into greater uncertainty and discomfort. If interested, I talk about this further in my book "This Book Will Make You Dangerous." Thanks again and best to you.

    Couple of disagreements:
    1) I don't think you're born with ONE passion. Passion can be developed through practice. It's a mix of nature/nurture. If a master pianist were born in a place without pianos, they might well master a different instrument. A painter could become a basket weaver, etc. There are many possible manifestations
    2) There's no actual external force like the devil or Plato's forms. There are subconscious thoughts like "I can't do this" or "I'm a bad artist." Collectively calling these thoughts "Resistance" is helpful because it externalizes them.
    3) Resistance isn't a purely malicious force. Its purpose is to protect you from failure. What you have to do it persuade yourself, with logic, that avoidance is the real failure. It's only half the story to see it as an evil creature. It's more like an overprotective parent

I dislike his method of determining of one's "calling". I think it's wrong. It's better to notice what excites and inspires the most, in my opinion.
