DDR was Top 40 morning royalty. Met him as a 23 year old dj while working at KUKI radio, Ukiah, CA. He was the king, but treated me as an equal. Kind, gentle, and loving.
OK. I'm 52 years old and like many comments here I listened to him in the late 70s while getting ready for 9th n 10th grade. I'd even record his show on my dad's 8-track deck. One time I recorded a tape and when listening back there was this annoying feedback being recorded along with the show. Took a while to figure out it was the dimmer switch on the kitchen light causing the interference. He was such a zany guy with his pals and that crazy dog Roscoe. I also remember when he hosted cartoons on Channel 44 in the mid 70s. Great memories. Thanks for posting.
Ooooh oooooh ooooooh Dr. Don you're such a son of a BEEEEEEEEEEEEP :-) Many fond memories of the Dr. listening to KFRC heading to my ship at NAS Alameda. Miss the times!

I remember staying with my dad who was at the time stationed in Sacremento with the military..And me coming from Germany listening to this awesome Dr Don!!! All I had was this very boring German radio or AFN That was back in 1982
7:34 Dr. Don Rose makes the obvious point that by 1986 the vast majority of younger radio listeners had migrated to the FM dial and they were not even aware of the stations broadcasting on the AM band.
At the 6:18 mark, premier newsman Robert McCormick mentions to Dr. Don that "today in Stockton, KWIN...is going to give KFRC a sendoff..." Here's that actual On Air tribute that I, John Willyard, produced and hosted live on KWIN, August 8, 1986 in telescoped air check form. Enjoy! soundcloud.com/johnwillyard/kwin-kfrc-tribute
Thanks for posting the KWIN KFRC tribute. Excellent, and great memories (great memories of KWIN as well when it was the powerhouse Top 40 station in San Joaquin County)..

This was just before they flipped to nostalgia/big band music of the 40's the also played oldies on weekends.
Miss this guy
Pure genius
Did anyone notice that the music on KFRC in 1986 leaned Adult Contemporary?
Yep that’s why didn’t listen in 1986 while I tuned into KMEL KITS and KSOL
Listened to him on WFIL in Philadelphia! The Doctor! WFIL and WIBG were the big channels here......
