I have thought about Dr Don over the years but until I ran into this video it was only fleeting. This brought back some wonderful memories. I listened to him in Modesto, senior year (TD 1975) my friend Tami Graves and I would meet in the main hall before class and laugh about Dr Don's material that morning. Many of my classmates are deceased now and I've fallen out of touch with the rest of them but watching this clip took me back to a more innocent time. Thank you for the memories Dr Don, you were a huge part of my teens. Rest in peace!
Remember Dr Don from his days on WFIL in Philly. Started off every day before heading off to grade school back in early 70s listening Dr Don and all those great billboard top 40 hits back in the day. This guy was the real deal, an excellent broadcaster in every sense of the word.
Grew up in Fairfield and those days were great. Listening to Dr. Don in the morning before school in the 70's. Miss those days so much, all those voices. I still hear Bobby Ocean from time to time doing voice overs
OK. I'm 52 years old and like many comments here I listened to him in the late 70s while getting ready for 9th n 10th grade. I'd even record his show on my dad's 8-track deck. One time I recorded a tape and when listening back there was this annoying feedback being recorded along with the show. Took a while to figure out it was the dimmer switch on the kitchen light causing the interference. He was such a zany guy with his pals and that crazy dog Roscoe. I also remember when he hosted cartoons on Channel 44 in the mid 70s. Great memories. Thanks for posting.
i grew up in St. Helena and went to school in Napa, Ca. I remember Ralph our high school bus driver playing KFRC on the overhead radio. It was Dr. Don who kept us company during that 30 minute bus ride. Rest in heaven, legend. I will never forget you.
For some reason, I never saw this video before. I remember hearing this live. I am still working in radio, and I still love radio. But radio stopped loving me back.
@@10TVMan I know, I failed! This just popped up in recommendations and I was surprised! Hey, I went back to Entravision, took over the Sacramento stations again. If you're bored, lunch is on me.
Remember listening to him on Christmas morning headed to my grandma's house. He had a live broadcast in his home as his kids open their presents. I remember one of his son's got a electric skateboard
This brings back some childhood memories. He was a staple in my life and many in the greater Bay Area during the the 70's and 80's. His son was a Freshman in my high school when I was a Senior. I remember he went duck hunting in North Platte, Nebraska and was on top of a wood pile and when he went to shoot the pile moved and he broke his leg. They aired the show from his hospital bedroom.
I was in the Army in '77 to '86. A friend of mine there was from the SFO area. I started doing an impression of DDR. He screamed "SHUTUP!!" It was fun! !
Dr Don was an exceptionally talented broadcaster I consider myself fortunate to have listened to Dr. Don while driving daily from Pleasant Hill to Travis AFB in 1975. With an uncanny ability to relate to all listeners in the Bay Area. Dr Don, along with WLS/WCFL Larry Lujack (Uncle Lar), must be the absolute best treat in Heavenly Radio. RIP - you are missed.
Dr. Don had a heart of Gold. He was never stuck up or I am better then you are cause I am a big DJ.. No he was a very humble man. He went to the same church as I did and I saw him a few times and he even gave a farewell speach after a mass.
As a former DJ on Radio in the 70's & 80's there wasn't anything better. It's a shame how Radio is today and how the world has changed. Grew up listening at night when I was a kid to WLS in Chicago. But there wasn't anybody much better than the DR.
Dr. Don was slightly before I was born but seemed he was probably like your cool dad in the 80s that had a good sense of humor and was still down with the music.
I grew up listeneing to KFRC (even though i live in michigan now),I am a SF native and through the 60s listened to the FRC first hand.remember the staion first had Sly Stone (a dj at the time) play his very first number one record.Sly and the family stone aired "Higher" on this station.. and Don Pushed the song to number 1.
Great memories, one of the best and look or is that hear? No swearing & no porn just solid get up and go morning radio. Plus ratings only some jocks dream about!
What manner of mastering wizardry did they do to either the live broadcast or recording? He moves well away from the mic in the chair and his voice is not off mic while still talking? I need that kind of compression in my home studio!
Used to love to listen to Dr. Don every morning, brighten up the day, pick up a couple of jokes to tell at work. Does anyone know of either recordings of his broadcasts other than what is on youtube, or any listings of his joke list?
This was back when Dr. Don could do a major market quality morning show. He was at his best at KFRC. He did mornings at K101 for a time, but it wasn't the same. The following January after this video, he'd moved on to KKIS AM & FM over in Concord, and it was next door to disastrous. It didn't last long, either. The partnership fell apart. KKIS is now KATD (?) Spanish, and KFRC is now KEAR Family Radio...the only call letter change KFRC's had in 88 years on the air.

Rest in peace Dr. Don. You brought many a chuckle and quite a few smiles as I listened to you over the years.
Dr. Don, you made my teenage years a blast, lived in Redwood City back then, mid 70’s. Great time and place to grow up! RIP.
Dr. Donald D Rose , Thanks for the great memories , RIP my friend ✌❤

Of all people, Paul, I figured you would have been one of the first to listen!

How great is this to be able to watch this video! Dr. Don woke me up for school when he was on WFIL in Philadelphia. Thanks for posting.
What memories! Thank you for sharing.
RIP Dr. Don.
RIP Dr. Don Rose you are the greatest radio will never be the same without you. We thank Cooperate America for getting rid of Personality Radio.
It hurts to see these days gone.
Wow really miss these days on the radio. Great memories! Long live Dr. Don!
There has never been nor will there ever be a radio legend DJ like Dr. Don! You can't recreate such masterpieces.
this is the end of an era ....A great era ...Long Live Dr Don!!!
Dr Don Rose you were the dominant force behind kfrc every morning! You used to make me laugh when I first heard you back on October 15th 1973.
I was in the Army in '77 to '86. A friend of mine there was from the SFO area. I started doing an impression of DDR. He screamed "SHUTUP!!" It was fun! !

He's much lower pitched than my 10 year old self heard him. A huge part of my formative years for sure.

He was funny, I liked it when he did the school lunch menu on Monday mornings.
I hear ya. I also grew up in Sunnyvale during the 70's and 80's and listened to Dr. Don during my younger years. Good times.
thank you for posting this anyway.

This guy was so corny he was funny! I do miss him! From the Sunnyvale area. Loved his sound affects!

wannawatchu66 he also had a heart attack and the doctor told him if he went back to work, he would be dead.
I remember the day dr don locked the door and played his favorite songs as the dream was dying, not a good memory.
I'm getting only left channel audio.
It was originally mastered in mono left channel only ... so no right channel audio.
Hey, Cuz! Looking good rocking the board! mz
From the music being played it has to be 1984.
why DOES this video have NO AUDIO?
