I really hope there’s more of this. Jim doesn’t fit the traditional mold that he seems to have been put in at first, just like Conan. The more freedom Jim is given to actually make his show his style, the more passionate and real it’s going to be, and j look forward to that.

I have to agree with this. If a negative tweet, video, or comment someone made in the past is in line with how they are now... Then I do think there should be social ramifications for that action. But if it isn't (Someone made a joke 10 years ago about rape but has since become a woman's activist etc.) then I say let it go. James Gunn shouldn't have been fired imo

getasimbe I agree with you, but if we’re talking about public figures then I’d argue their lives aren’t being ruined, and that by taking up a public platform there is an inherent risk of loosing it. But I also think that the reaction that is #metoo and the wider trend of calling people out for shitty things demonstrates a lack of institutional and social technology to deal with the perpetrators in a fair and balanced way. Mob justice exists until such a time as there’s a more reasonable solution provided.

Life is too serious to take serious. Spending about half of my time in hospitals since 2006 after a brutal motorbike crash, still in severe pain and my shoulder and arm isn't exactly working.
I've realised after spending time in severe rehab at hospital for recovery, lots of people who have almost died, or even still close to death, don't let this petty stuff matter.
I just wish more people stop hating for the umm, support of other haters. That's sad

Ok to be fair I just read James Gunn's tweets, and they were pretty bad, even for when he wrote them, but a lot of these people are getting in trouble for "racist, homophobic, etc." statements that they made during a time when these statements weren't seen as "problematic." The world was very different 10 years ago. There was a lot of stuff that was totally normal to say, and not seen as offensive. Regardless of whether you think it's changed for the better or worse, it is patently obvious that it has *changed*.
Scapy is probably the only one of us who doesn't deserve to talk out in front of a bus. Oh the irony.

I try to only be outraged by crimes and actions that harm innocent individuals or literally damage society: murder, rape, child abuse, animal abuse ... bribery of politicians, systemic inequality, environmental crimes, pharmaceutical price gouging, etc ... focusing on the big picture with sustained efforts, signing petitions, attending rallies, voting ... if enough people cared the same way, our society would change for the better.

Hey, I'm old and not an American, and I also liked GOTG. Seems to me folk are more pissed at how the tweets were found than the fact they were there in the first place. I've never felt the need to write to pedos or write pedo jokes , but then again, not a pedo.
Modern society is like a video game. Currently, we're at the new game+ stage. Everything has been done, society is pretty stable compared to the past, and there are no more real bad guys. So what do we do? Create conflict out of nothing (like digging up old tweets or picking on someone who is different). Humanity thrives on conflict, and if there is no conflict then we'll just create it because that's what we thrive for.
