@@crazypinkwerewolfthis ocean literally said a slur. She's more of a narcissistic hypocrite abuser hera than the Ocean who's just an overachiever that's kinda full of herself
I'm glad that "Play to win" exists because as an alto I can't sing "what the world needs" so in the music school version of RTC we used "Play to win" so I could play Ocean ❤️
I have so many questions… this song was cut for a lot of good reasons. Ocean’s character back then was completely different, plus it has a slur in it?? 😭 wouldn’t you also need special permission? How would that even work??
@creativeusernamehere6854 We had permission to stage the musical and translate it to Polish of course 😉 But even if we didn't have it, we could use the right to quote (staging the musical but emphasizing that it's not our authorship but a translated play).
@@creativeusernamehere6854 Who gives a shit if it has a slur? The song is meant to portray Ocean as a bigoted asshole who steps on others to make herself feel better. What The World Needs also has that moment when she says "How long's he got till we feed him through a tube?" That's like being mad at The Color People cause they had white characters using racial slurs against black people.
Honestly, this song is the better song, especially in the context of the cabaret in which it was first featured. However, it should be noted that for the “rollercoaster” structure of modern-day RTC, WTWN is a better fit. THIS SONG IS LIKE MY FAVORITE, REPRESENTING THE DEEP VOICE GIRLIES RIELLE SLAYYY❤
Tehy changed it because it didn’t set Ocean up for the proper character development. In this version of the musical they didn’t have the storyline out yet that one kid would get to come back, and so when they did change to that storyline and made Ocean the “main character” they had to change songs
I love all the songs in Ride the cyclone but I wish they kept in Play to win and also kept What the world needs. Also who’s gonna talk about Choose me!.
Yo, im curious if someone could help me! What style of song would this be classified as? Like, what genre? I truly can't come up with anything on my own. Alternatively, if anyone has songs that are a similar style, i would accept those as well!
@@tylerbreadlord1978 no. No one got to go back. From 2008-2011 they all were brought back to sing their final songs. The concept of someone coming back was first introduced in the 2012-2013 productions (where Jane got to go back)
This is why the modern version of RTC is worse than the most widespread one. Because of yall. The song isn’t ableist, the character Ocean is, because she is a BAD PERSON. That’s the point. Taking all the bite out of Ocean has ruined her character, the only mean thing she does to show she’s a bad person in the modern version (where they removed all the ableist comments and infantilizing of Ricky and the shaming of Constance’s appearance) is her organ donor comment. Characters who are bad people have to be able to be bad people, you can’t censor art that way or you lose the meaning. Be for real.
In this song Ocean tries winning debates with truth and speaking from the heart which doesn't work. Her mom tells her to use underhanded tactics which work and Ocean gets so obsessed with winning she is willing to pretend to be an evangelical communist just cause she knows the judges will like it. It's a mix of "Underhanded tactics may make you win, but you won't be well liked" and "Ocean's mom is terrible"... Also that debates are mostly a popularity contest
This is Ocean's song from the 2011-2013 Canadian Tour version of Ride the Cyclone! It was, as we know, replaced with What the World Needs when the show moved to America in 2015!

yeah so this is illegal and most definitely did not happen!
I love how when she sings "Something like THIS" the metal clinking is the same tune as the beginning of fall fair suite.
The comrade part was such a nice part

real!!!
Do you know where I can watch it?
I tryed to find some old script or something yesterday and ended up reading the script to Legoland instead
@@Carrots_and_kiwi_equal_dinos I love Legoland haha, I have the book :P
The style of this one kind of reminds me of I Can't do it Alone from Chicago. Especially the "Something like THIS" part
In my school they did a Chicago play before I joined 😢
This is definitely a lot different from what the world needs but I love it sooooo much
Okay, this song is really cool! I still prefer What The World Needs because it's the one I'm the most familiar with, but this one is so good as well!
oh how I love ocean no matter what production it is..
1:24 DID SHE SAY "or noel!" or am i hallucinating cuz that would be really funny
There's a slightly more clear variant where it's more clearly "porno" & said by Constance
She said: porno
Idk if it was just me or I heard “PORNOOOO”
@ChiliProductions- pretty sure it is

There's not much to talk about Choose Me since there's no audio or recordings for it

At first I didn’t like this but now I love it more then What The World Needs
why does this kill.
its like ocean if she was evil
