- The fiddle really steals the show here, huh. I really loved learning more and exploring the lore of this raid. I think this set of Alliance Raids are by far my favorite in the game.

SAME LMAO! I mean, his brain is just being honest with what we all know to be fact.
Few lore tidbits. Allagan Leimotiff represents Menphina, since Dalamud's her hound. (Allagan-made Moon prison) As they said, their shape & powers are shaped by humanity over time through prayers by dynamis. At the end, we even get the confirmation that they're the 12 followers of Venat we've seen in 5.2, who summoned Hydaelyn unto her. With the Watcher being the secret 13th. Also, Venat's short story shows the Watcher as Vemat's love interest, so that really hit me emotionally.
we don't know for sure about the Watcher yet, its just a theory being thrown there.
Fun Fact! After the Raid, Halone spells it out for you. What we have for Lore isn't the truth (She specifically says that Eorzeans think She and Nophica are at odds, and you're fine to believe what you want). But in truth, they are all Brothers and Sisters, from one Mother(Crystal). However, what Eorzeans believe and pray with, cause themselves to Change. Like Halone's Palace of Ice only got those Warrior statues because of the 1000 years of Ishgard revering her as a war goddess, or how Menphina got a doggy because people started associating Dalamud with her for 4000 years.
Not to mention, IIRC Dalamud’s form became more menacing over the years due to the influence of the beliefs around the red moon
When I heard that first boss theme in Euphrosyne, my immediate thought was... "Soken went to his first hoe-down, didn't he." I ADORE the music in this whole raid so far, it's just a lot of fun!
My husband and I pegged Menphina's theme as that late 80s/early 90s anime *ending* music. "You can totally see the main character's silhouette, or the MC standing with his back to his love interest, as the episode credits scroll by," he said, and now I can't unsee that when I'm hearing it.
Atleast I'm not the only one to peg that anime themeing. It's stylized off of magical girl anime. Hell, Menphina herself looks like a friggin' magical girl. So apparently, Keeper of the Moon Mi'qote are magical girl worshipping otaku.

The FF leitmotif you mention is called Prelude and it's interesting you associate it with ending when it started as and was used most often, as the name implies, the prelude to the adventure. It also ends up being used in the credits of many FF games to book end things and be that acknowledgement of the series history so I can see where you get it being an ending song. That said, Prelude is also the first song you hear in the FFXIV story in the intro unless I'm mistaken.
I love when you mention there's no violence. I think it captures the theme so well.
This whole raid feels like a feast after the harvesting season.

I must say I adore Menphina's design and having Dalamud come in during the fight was amazing, she and her theme also gives me a popstar/idol vibe, especially just before her charged up raid wide goes off she floats up on a snowflake shaped platform and afterwards she's carried by Dalamud on a paw
Imagine how hilarious it would be had she held the skillet the lore says she wields. She’d be cooking up some trouble in that fight.
I adore this raid series as a whole. The quests, Aglaia, and Euphrosyne so far, are so joyful, wholesome and conforting, exactly what's needed after the wild emotional ride that is Endwalker.
Its also a very nice contrast to the Pandaemonium raid series, which is all kinds of fucked up. Having the alliance raid being a joyful celebration while we are playing with the gods feels a bit like vacation.
This is the first raid that I've trying adored in a while. All the ones before this always felt a little bit of a slog (Ivalice was genuinely interesting, though I didn't love it like this). As you said, after all the doom and gloom I'm really loving this raid being so joyful and loving. I felt myself legit touched when Menphina says (as an NPC) how much the gods love man and you
Menphina sounds like it takes inspiration from sailor moons Japanese transformation music. I'm convinced its on purpose
Final fight music gives me some serious 90s anime opening song vibes. Not quite the ear worm as In the Balance but still very lovely.

I was genuinely surprised how much I heard snippets of the Lochs theme from Stormblood, specifically that descending melody section right before you hear the bells
Menphina's theme sounds like a magical girl's first ever transformation sequence + the flipping table of the battle she was about to loose
At the risk of only sort of having a clue what I'm talking about, I think the theme during Menphina's battle leans into City Pop? And also gives SUCH Sailor Moon vibes in all the best ways. Love the music from these raids so much ♥
I love the thematic change of the music between raids. The first one was ethereal, you’re meeting gods, confused, awestruck and a bit overwhelmed.
Euphrosyne’s overworld music is similar, but the boss music is more fun, playful, friendly. You know by now that they’re not evil, they want to test you and gain a better understanding of the people of the world, and now you’re having just as much fun as they are.
Also the use of prayer in the final boss of each raid calls into mind the prayers to Hydaelyn in the beginning of Answers, where the choir is praying to her for mercy and respite from their suffering. The tone is a lot lighter, but it’s still prayer used as song
Menphina is my characters patron so I was so excited to meet her in this leg of the quest 🥺
She is mine too, not what I expected back in 1.0 11.5 years ago when I made my character but after the shock I am happy with my choice. :)
Menphina's theme is an anime opening. She's literally Sailor Moon.
It's giving Magic Knight Rayearth, definitely.
Yes, so much this. I always loved Sailor Moon and I love this so much. When he said "90s Saturday morning cartoon", I think he's referring to that exact feeling. At least to me this song has the same vibe as some of my favorite Sailor Moon songs.
Okay, first thing... Your passion for music absolutely shines in this video! Your eyes show so much excitement that it's impossible not to get caught up in it! I have to do the battles with the volume off as the music is so distracting. Menphina's personality, her curiosity for mortals, is almost childlike and her theme fits that so well. Another bang on review, my friend! Cannot WAIT for your take on the [REDACTED]!!!

What else is fun is that Nophica's fight is very much like a country line dance. Swing out than on, swing left and right. Probably my favorite fight if I'm honest so far
At the last boss The whole song is just so good. And i can't resist to jaming at the Violin part. Its so fire !

I really love the minor start with the staccato voicing for moonlight. It’s really different from a lot of other music in the game and adds to that dance/funk feel that song has

As for the raids, I think they are going to be a fan favourite for a long time to come. The music, gameplay and story are all wonderful.
Also, Menphina is now my favourite of the Twelve. I love them all, but she is so sweet. Which makes sense, for a god of love I suppose.
After Aglaia and especially Nald'Thal theme, I was sure that at best they would have a really good soundtrack for this raid...I didnt think they would be able to top it. But man, they came really close. I think this is a very fair equal, and it was amazing. The raid was beautiful itself, the bosses were well designed (once I actually had time to look at them and wasnt panicking over completely foreign mechanics) and the music was *chefs kiss* as expected. The lore dump we got about the 12 was amazing, and I am so excited for the 3rd raid, and also a little terrified because I am 100% sure its going to chew us up and spit us out lol. Im also pretty sure there will be some Footfalls motifs in that music somehow, because that just seems incredibly fitting since apparently we are going back to the freaking moon for more info next raid xD

In the end during Menphina's Theme, it implements this technique where the whole song feels like it gets more and more epic and complex unlike pretty much any other song I've heard before and I don't really know what to call this phenomena but I'll at least say that it's incredible. I'd be interested to know if there's actually a musical term for this or what you think of it!

I had never thought about it that way prior to watching this, but this (the fiddle heavy boss theme) could totally be the end credits scene music of a game where everyone is celebrating our victory. It kind of is that, I guess.
one thing you may have missed: at 4:30 there is a sneaky Allagan theme leitmotif but I have no idea what's the lore reason behind it ;_;
edit: also the theme at 3:34 is from Crystal Rain (a short piece playing in Mor Dhona, it's a callback to FF13-2 Noel theme)

I'm not sure the Allagan leitmotif is the exact same, I know what you're talking about though, can hear it quite clear in Azys La's theme

I think allagan theme is for menphina and dalamud. Also for the area being in sight of the crystal tower.

I think Marco Meatball and Alex Moukala are really rubbing off on me. I was able to mentally breakdown all the feelings each motif gave long before I watched this video. The violin in Rhythm of the Realm and Dedicated by Moonlight just gives me so much joy.

I'm really excited for more stuff after this! Hopefully sometime you can get to the Music of Deep Rock Galactic, it's insane how melodic it is and how much love was put into the soundtrack!
I died a lot on Halone as well for 2 reasons. 1: the music. 2: Rhalgr left me not respecting the “get away” mechanics.
I felt like I could third eye and be maybe 1/2 or 3/4 to the edge and be fine, but NOPE. on the edge or you’re dead. Everything else was pretty straight forward and fun
the first song gives massive "witcher" vibes, i really couldnt shake that after i heard it,
while the 2nd one is definitely very "Jpop" at first, but watching this vid, i realized that without the violin section, it could be a bayonetta song, totally.

As you pulled out the Encylcopedia Eorzea and read out the lore for Althyk and Nyemia, I can't help but notice that it seems to be inconsistent with how the gods actually refer to one another. Althyk and Nyemia refer to one another as siblings instead of as father and daughter or as husband and wife. According to lore, Halone and Nophica are at odds with one another, but Halone seems surprised when you tell her this. Byregrot refers to Rhalgr as "Master", implying a student-teacher relationship rather than the parental (and adversarial) one we know them for.
A lot of what we understand about the gods through the Encyclopedia Eorzea seems to be incorrect. Things change between translations and sometimes people just plain make things up- for example, Halone and Nophica being on good terms wouldn't be politically expedient if the governments weren't getting along, so it's very possible some Ishgardian noble just plain made that bit up to justify a border dispute and got the church of Halone to push it.
What we discussed yesterday in Discord after experiencing the raid.
The twelves appearance and character are influenced by the prayers of the people.
That what the gods told us.
And since for example we put an end to Ishgards isolation and brought them back into the Eorzean Alliance. That could mean that Halone changed her attitude towards Nophica for example.
The gods greatly imply in the post-raid quest that Eorzeans have made up some if not major parts of the mythos, and the people's belief in turn can shape their being somewhat.
But at the core something remain immutable, it seems.

There might be a level to which this is intentional; the quests around the gods are implying pretty heavily that's they're not gods in truth. If anything, I'm more annoyed that the gods unambiguously denied being primals, given that doesn't seem to be entirely true. (More in-depth spoilers below.)
Spoilers: A really good pull, was that someone on reddit noticed there are a pair of characters in Elpis, a brother and sister, who have an exchange in dialogue that's repeated word-for-word between Althyk and Nymeia. Likewise, the current in-game theory is that the Watcher is the unnamed thirteenth; it seems fairly obvious that the gods were Created by Hydaelyn, with Ancients (likely Venat's co-conspirators) at the heart of them, similar to Venat and Elidibus, but much lesser in scale.
Explaining to a degree why they are changed by mortals, (screw dynamis, especially given that we have no reason to believe Hydaelyn spilled the beans on dynamis, and their yoke was presumably created not long after they were) as sufficient faith/will and aether can allow modern mortals to wield (bastardized) Creation Magics; objects of daily prayer and worship are going to be affected by that, although without concerted effort and obscene amounts of aether it would make sense for it to be slow. Some things aren't real certain (are the gods sundered, or does only the Watcher have reflections in the shards? Why are these very real and apparently benevolent deiform entities only worshipped in Eorzea?)
But I suspect this lso explains what they're doing, what they want, and why they've chosen to show themselves now. Hydaelyn is gone. Zodiark is gone. The Final Days have been averted. The age of the Ancients is well and truely dead, and it's time for humanity to stand on it's own two feet. This is one final test, to be sure we are ready, and an opportunity to celebrate their victory, to interact with these mortals they've safeguarded for so long. And when it's done... so too is their duty. They will fade away, allow themselves to return to the lifestream and be reborn. (Mirroring, curiously, (and almost certainly intentionally) the desires of Golbez and Rubicante.)
@@MarcoMeatball I take the Eorzean Encyclopedias as written by an in-universe scholar. Where they are largely correct, ones own biases would crop up, or be wrong because of the limited, possibly, knowledge of the scholar writing the Encyclopedia.
so talking about accordians in boss/rpg fight themes, check out Ringabel's theme from Bravely Default, "Love's Vagrant"
Each party member has an instrument associated with them and Ringabel's is the accordian.
The leitmotif playing throughout these raids 100% is to signal a new beginning, the same way ARR was a new beginning for FFIXV as a whole. It's no longer the same journey.
the FF leitmotif you are hearing mixed into the theme is the FFXIV version. We first hear it play at the end of 2.0 after finishing the base story of A Realm Reborn, as the theme of the Realm being reborn into a new era (hence the title of the theme, Dawn of a New Era) ^^
It is my favorite thing about the Euphrosyne main battle theme as it hearkens back to the beginning of your journey as a hero.
I'd meant to comment on your video yesterday, but the two motifs you're hearing in Nophica's battle are "Serenity", the theme of the black shroud and gridania, and Dawn of a New Era as you caught. Serenity is almost entirely a piano piece and calm, so that might be why you didn't quite catch it!

I rather like the depictions of the gods here and the music going with them. Not what I expected from the violin, but it was one of the charming aspects of the music.
Reminder that Encyclopedia Eorzea is written in the perspective of someone from Etheryis not an omnipotent view. Thus things written down may or may not be completely true. The story quests after the raid may shed light on what you are looking foe

It won't be Nymeia. She fights you in this tier with her brother Althyk. That means there's an open spot... and what I have expected from the beginning. This is leading up to uncovering the hidden 13th god. (FF has almost always had 13 "higher powers." in all of it's iterations)
As much as I would absolutely love a full fledge astro fight, we wont have it I dont think. Its gonna be the hidden 13th god (deryk? baby monkey? Watcher on the moon?) and its gonna blow our minds I am sure.
@@Paddycake_Games I'd say it can deffinitely happen, Nymeia's appearance or absence would be a surprize either way and realy fitting for the goddess of fate. A surprize second phase on the final boss revealing something huge would be more fitting than to skip a potencially realy fun fight. Just like the last fight at tower at paradigm's breach, false idol then her inflorescence. Oschon, as our "final" encounter, then their answer as the true final boss
I’m fairly certain deryk is oschon. It all lines up too well. Especially since the two deities who decided to accompany us when getting info from the stones was Menphina and Halone. Menphina is supposedly his divine lover and Halone a close friend of is. Which would explain why he was so awkward during it all.

i like the themes there a lot. the first boss theme makes me associate the fiddle with nophica, the accordion with athalyk and nymeia, and the violin after with halone

Tha accordion part sounds like FFXIII-2 - something along Noel's theme/Last Hunter battle music. Kinda makes me think of a what-if scenario where Gran Pulse in AF XXXX was bountiful instead of being a barren wasteland.
Also the Dedicated to Moonlight feels like a magical girl anime - Sailor Moon Starlights saga comes to mind. :D

I see the use of Dawn of a New Era in this more as a callback to the early days of FFXIV, to even before ARR. The Twelve are one of the elements in the game's setting that were set up back then but didn't stay all that relevant in the new story direction. For most of them, that pivotal moment of calling upon their power to stop Bahamut was the most important moment, and also the last. Certain gameplay elements, such as a minor resistance bonus based on a character's patron deity, were removed over time. This raid series, indeed the whole EW patch content in general, is clearly them taking an opportunity to revisit some aspects that had been sidelined. The state of the 13th shard, Thanalan's history, the Tataru quests revisiting older side content, even more insight into the history of Garlemald, etc.

Though the Faith of the Twelve depicts the different relationships of these deities, those before us are not completly in that relationship as we hear from Nymeia herself calling him a Brother, hinting at their true Origin as Venat's helper to bring Order to the new Menkind after the Sundering.

The music in the new raid is by no means bad, but it's a significant downgrade to Aglaia in every way. I don't feel any gravitas, there is no awe. And the last song feels like a 90's anime theme; bubbly and happy, maybe, but shallow and vapid and ultimately forgettable.
