The Trick Room Jace obviously. I don’t know all of his Lore but his ability to wipe Azors’ mind, and to wipe Vraskas mind without Nichol Bolas being able to notice are some pretty impressive feats
Urza-- super affhole. Smart in every aspect except where it matters. He is the Rick of the MTG universe. Or Squee, the accidental genius. So smart, he seems dumb.
Wouldn't that be power, not knowledge? Doing one spell really well does not mean he is powerful. I hope I don't sound angry or something. Just trying to start a debate.
Urza: - founded Tolarian Academy. - created Karn the only Artifact Planeswalker. - created the Weatherlight and legacy. - won a 4000 year chess game with Phyrexia. - the list goes on.... Glacian, the genius of Halcian. - created the null moon. - theorized the existence of the multiverse. - created most of the most noted Thran artifacts.
yeah dude urza should be top or close to top. 4000 year chess game indeed. Just countless plots foiled by him, and countless more hatched. He engineered an entire army, has outwitted countless numbers of planeswalkers and godlike creatures. but... 4000 year chess game, in which he had to unite unlikely allies.
Great to have you back. Love your lore videos. I love your work. Now for the topic itself... what about Niv-Mizzet, Urza or even Nicol Bolas. Those are geniuses, yet no mention of them?
Jodah eternal, one of the key scholars on magic on the plane of Dominaria back when magic was not well understood. Has lived for thousands of years. Was the leader of his own magic school called the city of shadows. Managed to bring urza back to sanity at one point. Also helped teferi close the planar rifts. Etc, etc
Is there a part 2 for this? I want to see a list with Urza, Bolas and Yawgmoth compared and ranked (and yes this is an excuse to get a “vs” series of some of my favorite Planeswalkers!).
A few possible additions: Nicol Bolas (he's an oldwalker and you know, it's Bicol Bolas) Ugin (like his brother Ugin is an oldwalker and has lots of experience, and also he's Ugin that kind of speaks for itself) Urza (quite obvious reasons) Ral Zarek Niv-Mizzet (genius old dragon) Jace (maybe, he's skilled but he isn't on the level if peoole like Urza) Sorin (he's not exceptionally smart, and he's not a genius either but he has a lot of experience because he's an oldwalker. Which is why he's only a possibility)
How can you forget Niv-Mizzet? Not only did he started a guild of thinkers and inventors on Ravnica, he created a brand new kind of metal called Mizzium, AND had plans and contigency plans to not only reform the guildpact BUT also deal with the rising threat that was Nicol Bolas. Oh, and did I forget the fact that he is a dragon with the IQ of ten billion? Number 1 indeed.
No Niv-Mizzet, the dragon who founded the Izzet Guild. Which should be of higher note than Azor, because Izzet is full of intelligence wizards, inventors etc. He even had a plan to get around his own death. While not as old as Ugin or Nicol-Bolas (which he is apparently a cousin to Ugin if I remember correctly from the WotS book) though he lacks experience among dragons he is certainly smart enough to be labeled the Parrun of Izzet, the Dracogenius and the New Living Guildpact.
@@AetherHub while talking about WotS, let's not forget Saheeli and Dovin Baan. Both artificers in there own guilds, Saheeli is clearly creative with what she makes i.e her Dragon artifact card (I think it looks like a dragon at least). Dovin should be on a video for well being able to prepare 2 or 3 maybe 4 steps ahead of most others. The only reason he was beaten and possibly blinded was because of Lazav portrayed chandra and using a flamethrower while real chandra attacked from the back. Another person I think deserves a spot on the list is Sarkhan, No I am not a fan boy of him. But for him to be considered the conduits of dragons, one of if not the smartest races in all of Magic certainly speaks for itself.
@@jesok3761 Jace I feel like is more or less becoming that guy who is really smart and everyone knows it, but is really friggin guillable. But I would love to see Slobad, he outsmarted the phrexians (apologies for butchering names) and memnark and was willing to give up becoming the first goblin planeswalker to ressurect oh I don't know all the people killed by memarch and put them back from whence they came. I can also see and this might not make sense but Vraska is actually intelligent and experienced, not to confuse cunning with intelligence, but rather the ability to use this cunning in a way that helps her i.e turning sphinx to stone, As well as the experience to have survived Pirates, 2 sphinx, multiple planeswalkers Including Nicol Bolas, Jace, Kaya, Ral, among others, a massive army of anti-planeswalkers that were controlled ironically by a planeswalker. Speaking of that planeswalker, Lilianna is bit just a survivor but a smart one at that, she has survived well, tragedy, the chain veil's temptation, her demon contractors. She should also be noted as the one who Desparked Bolas by using his own eternals against him (after killing estimated amount of 1000 innocents? Give or take x amount of offscreen/offpage deaths.) Next on the list of survivalists that may not be smart in the Big Brain sense; Kaya i can explain this in two instances of her character; Killing the orzhov council for lack of remembering names and freeing the ghosts/spirits, AND after freeing said ghosts she had to burden all the debts that were owed by that group of ghost brokers and she certainly has street smarts, when it comes to ravinca at least. Finally the last character I can think of at the moment who would be good for a mention would be (and forgive me for not being alive when he was printed) that one guy who actually killed Nicol Bolas by himself.
I find it interesting that you brush aside Ugin's role in the plan to trap Nicol Bolas, as I understood it the plan was a shared effort by Azor and Ugin, and was in fact mostly made possible by Ugin's insight into the machinations and personality of Bolas, it might be too late for you to see this but I'd love to know why Ugin wasn't put on the list for his unequaled insights into both bolas and the even more mysterious eldrazi.
So was the book "A Testament in Metal" based around Tezzeret and how he got his Etherium arm not lore at all? Because it was just a little different in that how he got his arm and learned as fast as he did.
Niv mizzit? Bolas? Ugin? Those three should definitely be here for obvious reasons but how about my favorite oldwalker... Tevish Zatt (or however you spell it).. He was the one that mostly figured out how to escape the shard...
It would be great if Azor could unravel the spell that mind wiped him and works to regain his spark in a similar way to memnarch before becoming the next major villain with a vendetta with Jace and Ugin.
Where is Nicol Bolas? Come on, man! BOLAS! I agree with Teferi and Tezzeret at 100%. It's mentioned (in different sources, of course) how everyone had them in high regards because of their talent. In the case of Teferi, as you said, understanding the time rifts also makes us understand how smart he is. Memnarch... not sure. If transfering sparks is a sign of intellect, then Jhoira needs to be in the list instead. Kruphix is *definitely* a controversial pick! I mean, you have a point, but I just don't agree with it. Azor... hum. As a D&D player I'll say that Intelligence and Wisdom are different abilities. Do you play D&D? You should! Totally enjoyed the video, even if, as I said, I don't agree with it 100%.
