For the past few years, they have been chosen based on close relationship with RsS nagpur.

I personally believe this was a right step taken by Govt. of India. Because quality(Profile) can never be compared with quantity(Age). And even in future, such way should be followed for better International defense response.
As an Indian I think government should make chief the most deserving officer instead of the most scenior officer but there shouldn't be any politics. Jai Hind.
Chiefs should be selected on the basis of their profile and experience
Definitely selection should be based on profile and most deserved person, if profile is equal then they should consider seniority as extra experience
Chief of services should be selected on the basis of their experience, merit and most deserving officer should be appointed

Only on the basis of marit. Seniority can not be only criteria for selection of chief of any organization. Yes, this should be done by giving due respect to our senior officers.

00:50, bro kindly correct yourself first then give gyaan to others. In IAF, the Chief's rank is "Air Chief Marshal" not Air Marshal. Air Marshal is a 3 star rank officer which equivalent to Lieutenant General in Indian Army and Vice Admiral in Indian Navy.
