Ryu Sarang's move though, she's the tiniest but she always caught my attention w/ her precision.

the korean idol trainee system is kinda of ubiquitous over everything any kid does in korea (studies, ballet, classical training, sports, etc etc etc). Obviously we'll never know the exact ins and outs (it's different for every company anyways) but the philosophy exists everywhere. When an idol says that they were a trainee for "X" number of years.....the reality is that MOST likely (of course there are deviations to this but this is generally true across the board) they've already been attending dance and voice hagwans (after school private academies) since they were probably 3-4 years old.
This is why, for the most part, idols these days come from very well to do families (these schools aren't cheap) and why they are SO GOOD at just picking stuff up and being OCD level detailed. It's EXTREMELY IMPRESSIVE but also kind of sad to an extent......the system is so set whether it's for being an idol or getting into a top college or going into classical music or being an athlete, etc and there's no real "middle class" of kids who might not know what they want to do because....well.....they're children.
For every idol you see on screen there are 1000s of kids who have failed already and actually kind of have no option bc literally every other industry or career path already has their own "idols" of their own who have been training for it since a young age. After the east asian economy collapsed in the mid/late 90s and korea had to take a loan out with the International Monetary Fund-the country as a whole just adopted (well, they already kinda had it but it just got set in stone) this mindset of working themselves to the bone and constantly being in competition with everyone around them and ranking EVERYTHING. It's an incredibly harsh place to grow up as a kid but it's also why when you see finished products in whichever industry.....they are SO good at what they do.
As an example....there's this 20 year old classical pianist named Yuchan Lim who is the hottest pianist now in the classical world. He was the youngest ever winner of the Van Cliburn Piano competition at age 18. He's unreal.....there are these videos of when he was THIRTEEN playing Rachmaninov Piano Concerto #2. That's insanity at age 13 if you're not familiar with the classical world. The top idols are no different whatsoever

pretty sure jiyoon from izna grew up w just her dad and is from a rural area lol shes definitely still doing pretty well financially but def not to the same degree as u think and its kinda evident how shes self taught from the show and her improvement! theres a lot of cases like this in the industry so we shouldnt generalize every idol but i see ur point
