Climbing Pond Mountain was a beast - and there is no real 'view' reward for that climb. I hear MANY hiker skip it ... and those who don't, normally put it on their list of "least favorite days." Your good attitude makes your videos a JOY to watch! WA-TOO-GAH. 🤣
Averaging 20 miles/day is a good number for getting to Katadhin by a reasonable date. BTW, great camera work for all us viewers. At times it seems like the viewer is the one doing the hiking. After you summit Katadhin Taylor you should edit all your videos and make a movie!
That .2 miles back seemed totally worth it. That waterfall was gorgeous. Love the flower in your hair! You are making this hike seem so easy. You are fun to watch.

While it's hard to tell, it looks like the trees are budding and you're beginning a true spring phase of your hike. Good to know you're slowing down enough to absorb where you are. My family lived in Asheville for 16 years but left four years ago. Several months ago we decided to move back and your posts are inspiring and motivating.

@@djg5950 I don't know who. A hiker that I was following stopped in a town to resupply with other hikers. They left their packs outside the store. When they came back, one of the packs was gone. Very sad.
@@richardross7219 Ok. I vaguely remember that incident. Not sure of the town (southern, like Hot Springs, I'm thinking ?) or the hiker. Stuff like this does happen but it's rare. Just be aware that's all.
It's even rarer for them to disappear on the trail. Towns where there are some homeless people is where it would happen. Who wants a bunch of dirty clothes and a used tent ? Most are after money and wallets but a hiker should keep those on himself at all times. I wore a hidden money belt. I've been to foreign countries and know about that practice.

My favorite swimming hole is 200 yds above the falls. Scamper up the right side (your left), find small trail that goes to the top of the waterfalls, follow the trail upstream and it will bear left away from the creek. When the trail ends, you are at the swimming hole, as the right side of the creek goes straight up. Nice 90 degree rock slide drops you into a small pool. Only swimmable in the summer, and even then its COLD

Do you watch Craig "Hawk" Mains ? He was crossing that very ridgeline (closer to Damascus than Taylor was in this video) during the thunderstorms. I can't wait to see where Taylor was that day. Her videos are delayed so it's hard to tell. Go to Craig's Day 25 (Sunday March 28th) if you want an idea of what it was like hiking during those storms. Pretty scary.
Sweet getting to 20 miles a day (or more) - and Watauga is pronounced Wa - Tau. Guh - I love crossing that dam and heading through that park - don't know if you noticed the Visitor Center with bathrooms or if they are unlocked yet

Not sure if you watch (or have the time to watch) other thru hikers videos but if you find the time go and watch Hawk's latest video of his crossing of that ridgeline (closer to Damascus than Watuaga Lake). He did it when severe thunderstorms were passing Sunday March 28 (his Day 25 on the trail). Now I'm wondering where you were on that day. Not a good day to be high on that ridge.

I have tendency to mispronounce words when I like how others mispronounce them. Chocorua is always Chalk-a-roo-a to me because of someone mispronouncing it when they were talking about a photo of it that I had.
Laurel Fork Falls and Wautauga Lake are in Eastern Tennessee, along the AT ,not far from the VA. line near Damascus, about 450 miles north of Springer Mt., Georgia
According to Summit Post AT mileage the TN/Va line is mile 459.3 (from Springer). She mentioned passing mile 444. Should be crossing the state line in the next video. Damascus is 463.0 (I've seen it listed as 466 miles). She'll hit Damascus in her next video.

The AT goes right past the falls why did u take a .2 side trail backwards?
If the water gets up, how do folks get along that little ledge right above the water.
