I really like Dave. All of Megadeth's members are always over shadowed by the other Dave. But this Dave is so chill. And he's a crazy good bass player.
TurtleTortuga Trying to compare alex webster with les claypool is like trying to compare pizza with sushi. They're both foods (bassists) but are so different. Les is the best slap bass player though.
It seems to me that with a lot of bands if the bass player stopped playing you wouldn't even notice. So its nice to actually hear the bass for once. I like to actually hear the bass on albums. Like with Sabbath and Rush and early Van Halen. Whats the point of having a good bass player if you cant really hear them.
Still my favourite Megadeth's album, even if Mustaine tried to ruinit for me with stupid triggers on the drums, mixed like a 12 years old would do on his PC.
DVN I'm not downplaying his ability. He's great at playing the instrument, he's just not... a bassist. He's more famous for staying in the lead (outside of the bass clef) than he is for playing bass. That being said, he does have some good bass lines, but that doesn't make him one of the greatest bassists of all time.
I love the big goofy smile that shot across his face when the audience started singing. Dude so obviously adores what he does and the people he does it for.
he is not underrated, there are just not always the right people to rate him high, when you understand what I mean ;) For me is this album one of the best thrash albums and an inspiration and this guy is a big part of this, as the whole band... thank you all for this masterpiece!
I love the crowd singing the word while Dave's playing... Superb! Dave smiling too, shows the quality of the man as well as the quality of his playing!
Greek Dude, Ellefson plays thrash and heavy metal; he plays for the song, making the band sound as heavy and powerful as possible, not to demonstrate "virtuosity" (which he has, too), neither to exhibit himself as a star or to feed his ego. This guy is an immense musician, a genius without the recognition he really deserves despite so many years of brilliant career; but despite all this, he doesn't lose accessibility to his fans and lovers of Rock in general. Long live the great David Ellefson, without whom the great Mustaine wouldn't have been able to build the most perfect Metal machine: Megadeth!
Dave Ellefson may not get the props he deserves, but anyone with a remote clue about music could learn lots from him. He's in my top ten all-time great bass masters. If he's not in your list, you are a music snob who goes to a proctologist for the sniffles
Mastering both pick and fingerstyle is pretty important, sometimes you only get a certain sound with a pick and sometimes you only get a certain sound with your finegrs
Kenny Johansson hmmm, mr cliff burton play fast as hell you cant denie that, r.i.p tomorrow he died for 28 years ago bass god, but credit to ellefson i mean hes a great bassist
Try creating a smooth jazz sound with a pick for example, no matter how hard you try, you cant get the really soft deep sound you get when you play with your fingers, and just like DK said, it is possible to play really Fast with your fingers, cliff used his index, middle and ring fingers
Don't ever tell me that bass players who use a pick aren't real bassists. This and John Paul Jones on Black Dog are prime examples of using picks on a bass to good effect.
dave is one of the nicest ppl I have ever met....badass dude...signed my ticket and took pics with me and my little bro outside a Houston show...even chatted bout motorhead tunes awhile with him
Why Cliff? What's so special about Cliff? He was never technical nor professional when playing. He was sloppy as hell. Good guitar player playing on bass? Indeed. The "best" bassist of all time? NEVER. I can debate on this all day, so get prepared.
It isn't just that. Getting the feel right without using a pick is extremely tricky. That, and the fact that you can't palm mute the Symphony bass line without a pick haha
@megaluisdeth nope sorry, i havent heard a price yet either but there only making 60 of the basses through the custom shop with a signed certificate, rust in peace wristbands, and ellefson picks, so im guessing those are gonna be at least $2000-$3000. but after that there gonna introduce a whole david ellefson line of jackson concert basses, so im guessing there gonna have like low and medium priced models too as time goes on.
well i am more of a funky guy, so i am slapping a lot. but my finger technique isn't that fast. btw you can check out a bunch of my videos if you want to. i recently made a megadeth cover!
Laughing at how people are saying "great cover" and "well done you hit every not". For real?! He is the co founder of megadeth! He helped create the fucking song!
They should get this guy to play with Megadeth!
Edit: welp .....
Yes i totally agree, he is better than Dave Ellefson
Forget that! Who's the awesome singer with those great pipes?! Let's get that guy in Megadeth right now! haha
***** Actually I disagree with all of you this guy has nothing on Dave.
Matt Lloyd You mean the crowd?
well he was in the band at that moment and he continue in the band (sorry for my bad english i am mexican)
I really like Dave. All of Megadeth's members are always over shadowed by the other Dave. But this Dave is so chill. And he's a crazy good bass player.
we call this dave (bass) david
mrpokemon8778 or Dave Jr.
COVERMAN99PL or just junior
@@mrpokemon8778 lol
It's awesome that they're all singing like it's a Megadeth concert xD
ChaosPotato I know right
Wouldn't you?
All they aproach the oportunity :v
that was awesome
This is Megadeath concert actually
Those who say bass is easier than guitar should see this
Seriously. I can play it on guitar. I was curious to see if I could learn it on bass and it just LOOKS far harder.
I mainly play bass, and damn I can play these riffs on guitar. It is really harder to play on bass
dumbass thread
..sir are you going to buy it?
Dave Ellefson is the most underrated musician in metal.
+Blaise Glowiak Alex webster is.
He is arguably the best bassist ever. And most people don't even know him
+G-gamer Do you even Les Claypool?
TurtleTortuga Trying to compare alex webster with les claypool is like trying to compare pizza with sushi. They're both foods (bassists) but are so different.
Les is the best slap bass player though.
G-gamer Les is also one of the best finger players ever, he just doesn't do it very often.
+TurtleTortuga But you have to agree that alex is a technical machine.
1:30 - people start singing and he can't help but smile :D
what a great bass player… hopefully he won´t do anything stupid that gets him fired from his band
this man is that cool uncle you never had.
Alex Vazquez this comment is getting really old
@@riggsbr1 well it's from 2 years ago.
so unoriginal stfu

This didn't age well
most under-rated bassist of all time. and it's a fact!
Uhh... Rex Brown, Sean Beasley, Ted Lundström?
who's looking down on him? just say the word and i'll pay him(preferrably her) a visit
Tommy Ellis I gotta admit, Rex Brown is a fuckin' killer bassist, filled a lot of area with his playing!
sctheory11 I believe Dave wrote this bass line, and there are far to many amazing under appreciated bassist out there for that statement.
I really appreciate Ted Lundstrom since AA is one of my favorite death metal bands but he's nowhere near Ellefson, IMHO.
so much love in that crowd, so dope
Siiiiiick thrash bass playing. I hope he sticks with it, he just might get somewhere ; ) lol
+The Ghost of the Flying Dutchman sarcasm, dude lol omg

I notice xD, with out the bass the song would lack a lot of sustain and backbone it'd just feel like a big empty hole.
shockt9610 thats what happened with metallica and ... and justice for all :/
I can hear the bass really easily on the album tbh
@@snow15243 of course you can this guys just deaf lol
And now he's Megadeth's former bassist..... again!

Che mi dici mai? Che diaulo ha fatto?
No, davvero, tu che ne capisci, dove ha modificato?

what do you mean?
eden steiner
Triggers = fake drum sounds.
Mustaine had the old albums remixed using ugly samples instead of the acoustic, original ones.
Matt Moves
Yep :)
amazing playing, not just a guitar masterpiece but also a lesson in how to successfully write bass lines in a thrash metal song.
Do I hear a bell?
I think I just got schooled.... dude....
geezer butler, steve harris, alex webster, dave ellifson \m/
+DVN cliff burton is a glorified lead guitarist who picked up the wrong instrument
+Sander your a poser
Caretheis67 why? Because I don't like a certain bassist?
DVN I'm not downplaying his ability. He's great at playing the instrument, he's just not... a bassist. He's more famous for staying in the lead (outside of the bass clef) than he is for playing bass. I love the crowd singing the word while Dave's playing... Superb!
Dave smiling too, shows the quality of the man as well as the quality of his playing!
my eyes are not fast enough to watch his fingers... :-(
Despite his tendency to almost blindly follow the guitar, I do find Ellefson a very skilled and often underappreciated bass player.
Greek Dude,
Ellefson plays thrash and heavy metal; he plays for the song, making the band sound as heavy and powerful as possible, not to demonstrate "virtuosity" (which he has, too), neither to exhibit himself as a star or to feed his ego. Behold the LEGEND that inspired me to pick up the miraculous instrument known as the bass.
humble and skilled

I will miss him. ):
While I'd never advise bass players to use a pick Ellefsons sound is so chunky and amazing that this deserves credit for being epic even with a pick.
Mastering both pick and fingerstyle is pretty important, sometimes you only get a certain sound with a pick and sometimes you only get a certain sound with your finegrs
I think pick sound much better and you'll be able to play much faster also.
Kenny Johansson hmmm, mr cliff burton play fast as hell you cant denie that, r.i.p tomorrow he died for 28 years ago bass god, but credit to ellefson i mean hes a great bassist

so musical. definitely one of the best bass players around! just tasteful, man!
One of my all time favorite bassist! This guy reinvented bass composition in music and sat the basis for bass in metal
Don't ever tell me that bass players who use a pick aren't real bassists. This and John Paul Jones on Black Dog are prime examples of using picks on a bass to good effect.
Man, Holy Wars is killer trying to play it on a guitar, imagine how tired you must be after playing it on bass!
PERFECTO
It’s cool that everyone joined in singing as soon as Dave smiled at them… good energy reciprocated by good energy
So cool to hear everybody singing along! Sounds like they had a helluva time.

He's definitely right next to Cliff Burton when it comes to great thrash metal bassists. And metal bassists in general!
Dave's cool as shit!
Para mi el mejor bajista de metal, despues de Burton, en ese level!!!
alternate picking patterns like go down down up up down up do it slow at first to get a feel for it then progressively move faster
This is an incredible bass line. Respect, respect and more respect. Greetings from Germany

fantastic. thanks for this. I used to play these songs on bass back in the day and its good to hear how they were MEANT to be played :)
FUNAO
Only TH-cam can provide such moments, lol.
"Sir, you've been playing that bass for hours now. Are you gonna buy that one?"
I wonder if Mustaine demands that the bass follows the guitar all the time, instead of doing its own thing and being less tied to the guitar riffs
