    The LC from "Rita, Sue and Bob too" is a classic piece of video. Lots of cheap 250's for us to profit from after passing our tests!

    My first bike, in March 1980, was a CZ 250-471.4 Deluxe FMY120V. I still have it. It has just over 79,800 miles on it and, being a CZ, still runs. I ride it occasionally.

    I’m 52 this year and passed my test on a rd125 lc
    Loved it ,had many of the bikes mentioned in the last vid 👍 I’ve just bought a 1984 gpz 550 happy daze can’t wait for the summer love the vids 👍 😉

    On memories of your first bike mine was a Yellow FSIE PNK 741R. Bought it at 15, did it up and was one the road 9:00 on my 16th birthday. Owned it for two years using it to get to work as an apprentice at BAE. Did about 6000 miles. Still have a few photos of it after doing it up.

    The were many tens of thousands of guys who were in their late teens/early 20's in the 70' and early 80's who gave up biking for whatever reason,then returned 20+ years later as the born again biker in their 40s or 50s with cash to spare and a choice of motorcycles like Fireblades,R1's,GSX-R's etc all potentially more lethal in the hands of someone who hadnt ridden in over 20 years than the smaller or slower bikes they had ridden in their youth,and many of them came a cropper.
    Slightly off topic - I also blame the born again biker with more money than sense who is desperate to get his hands on a favourite bike from his youth and has caused the prices of classic Japanese bikes to go through the roof making the hobby a preserve of the well heeled 😀

    B895 UCK was my first road bike, a Suzuki GP100U, did 11,000 miles on that little thing and loved every one of 'em!

      It's amazing Roger how our memory works , JRE 451 V my moped I pretty sure 1981 honda 50 , paid £200 , sold £165 , did 3k 😄😄😄

      @@moncktonhotmail TJA 273X was my next, a 250LC the guy was selling cheap as didn't take his test. £250 in 1988, be worth about £6K now but I swapped it for a CB250RS....

    I think it was probably a combination of lots of things really, rather than anything specific. But the change in licence rules was probably the big killer. My first bike was a 1981 Honda mt5, can't remember the reg. Bought it for £110 and part exd it for £225 against a GP100 to do the two part test on. Interesting comment about the devaluation of the 250s in the 80s, but this worked both ways. Was bad for sellers and good for buyers. You could get 250s dirt cheap. I remember being offered a brace of kh250s for £100. If I only knew then what I know now. Oddly enough I know folk who had bikes as cheap wheels as they couldn't afford a car in the thatcher era as they were expensive to run and maintain compared to a small bike.

      @@moncktonhotmail yes my mate had a cb50j, wasn't that a single seat four stroke. Rode it a few times, interesting ride. Always thought the restricted 50ccs were more dangerous than the older ss50, fs1e and ap50 as they couldn't keep up with the traffic, so you ended up riding in the gutter with the cyclists, while all the cars passed you.

    As I mentioned in your previous video, making CBT law was a good plan imho. I was one of the first to *have* to do it, and I'm glad of that, as otherwise I know I would have ended up another statistic. Tony (I believe) raised a good point, in that if you done your CBT at 16 you should be able to ride a 125 from the off. And as for the current licence laws regarding young riders, WAY too complicated. Why could they not have stuck with just the DAS (if you were old enough), or the 2 year restriction? I went through the second process (eventually passed my test in 2010), as it was more convenient to me. I then had the restrictor kit fitted to my first "proper" bike (NX650), I was fine with it. Those first two years went by very quickly.
    And as for my first bike's reg - F956 MPU. An East German Simson Enduro S51 (49cc moped). Can't believe I still remember that after 32 years! Cost £400 I think. Done about 2000 eventful miles. . .

    I was one who mistaken bought a Honda CM250 Custom back in August 1981
    Just because I liked the look of it. But it was aweful to ride, because of the
    upright riding position. I traded in my immaculate red Superdream and got
    £600 for it. The CM250 was just over £1000. A year later, due to new legislation
    I was offered only £460 for the CM so you could say "I gave my Superdream away.
    Because of the money I lost on the purchase of the CM which incidently was
    immaculate, and low mileage.

      Gary a very common story , the value of anything deprecating so much! in a short space of time , is a unique in this era , I think when battery vehicles and bikes get more common , The value of fuel machines will increase , because of many reasons 👍thanks fir comment

      a local garage that is buying up stocks of old petrol and diesel cars.
      Especially as they are being phased out, in favour of electric vehicles.

    I've had various bikes since i was 16 on and off over the years (50cc, 100cc and 125s) for various reasons, starting a family and work meant getting a car. I had a break for 15 years then decided to buy a YBR125 but had to take a CBT, it was slightly embarassing as i had a total of 12 years biking experience. After two years i couldn't face doing another CBT, felt it was a rip-off, as a one-off refresher then ok but with with 14 years experience having to do what is basically a motorbike proficiency test was like i say to embarassing to do. Incidentley i passed my driving test in '86 so bike or car i've always been a road-user.
    A quick little story from the early 80's, me and two mates all with road-trial bikes (as we called them back in the day) were stopped by a copper one afternoon, he pointed out that our L plates should be placed in a up-right position but we had them stuck flat on our mudguards, he said "do you think we go around in helicopters" haha they do now, i've often thought did he go back to the station and say 'Hey Sarge i think i've just come up with a great idea . . . .

    Very interesting comments…..for me the last comment seemed the most sensible….allow riding a 250cc bike once 21, maybe follow on that at 25, you can ride upto a 500cc bike then maybe at 30 you can ride any size bike…..also think that training should be either free and compulsory or at least very much subsidised….a theme of common sense, that could apply to age and car engine size…..this debate of course evolves, but just maybe the powers to be should be made up of a proportion of bike riders, to achieve some sort of balance and not lean towards the vanilla risk adverse times we endure just now……yep I am a grumpy old git from the halcyon bike days of the late 70s….

    To answer the question posed by the title, definitely killed it. In the heyday of motorcycling (my heyday anyway) in the 1970s every summer weekend the roads were full of bikes. Clubs and bikers' pubs abounded and every city or decently sized town had two or three bike dealers. Now, apart from bikes owned by people aged 40 plus who started riding before all the legislation in parts 1 and 2 you rarely see them. It is just too much hassle. Qualifying and driving a car is so much easier. Plus (maybe a case of rose tinted spectacles) we don't get the summers we had then.

    I had a rd 50 age 16 , the 28mile ride to and from work was like running the gauntlet of useless and impatient car drivers having a clear lack of value of my life .
    In fact I sustained life changing injuries at 19 by a half pissed truck driver . A huge part of bikers deaths and injuries are the fault of poor car drivers, and the standard of drivers is even worse now than ever

    my first moped was a Honda PC50 reg HOL 751N, and it cost £50 in 1981

    I agree with the comment, ban 50cc and have 125 from 16, the modern 50cc bikes are so slow they are dangerous. Bikes are now big boys toys, they have become so expensive and a status symbol for the over 40s not the transport they are meant to be. I ride every day in all weather's on my 1983 honda vt500c shadow and I've been riding on the road from 16 and I'm 57 this year. I'm sure western governments want motorcycles band so by making it harder and harder to get a licence it will die out when old bikers like me kick the bucket.

    Its been great to catch up on your video's after being in hospital since last July (8 months in all), myself and the wife, who was riding pillion, were hit head on by a drug driver overtaking on a bend, I started riding at 13 off road, moped at 16, 125 at 17 then 400cc later that year after passing my test, I kept the 400 and carried on riding even after passing my car test, unlike some of my mates, raced motocross and enduro for many years while also having many small road bikes and an FZR1000 exup, all of this experience meant for nothing when some drugged up tw@t hits you head on, car drivers that have not had any bike experience can be bad and these days bad driving in general has hit a new level, something must be done about it now, harder tests, higher fines for bad driving and driving without licence /insurance etc and realistic prison sentences, not a slap on the wrist like the scum that hit us, he is probably out of prison and having fun on drugs and driving again while my myself and the Mrs struggle on with life changing injuries, bikes have always been safe in the hands of experienced riders but obviously learners need time to gain road riding hours before being let loose on hyper sport machines, the government don't care about anyone they cant turn into a cash cow.

    why do you have to retake CBT every 2 years
    idea of the week if you are a safe rider eg not fall off make claim get points or pulled by police .
    that bit can be checked by insurance police then why not make it once you passed cbt can stay on l plates as long as you dont fall off make claim or get points.
    insurance companys do risk essesments then you can make bad riders do CBT again to be allowed to get bike insurance on their bikes .
    why do some have to pay money doing cbt every 2 years when they just want to get a to b,
    everybody is different i just want to ride my moped with out paying cbt costs or making me take 3 tests + cbt to get of l plates .
    had my bike over 22 years no problems thats why i get full year insurance for £60 pound because nfu insurance knows good riders from bad ?

    My plate was ARX 884T om gt50 and EDP 857V ON MY GSX 250 thats the only registrations I can truly rember thru all my diffrent cars. Acsept my Audi R8 V10 personal plate I got , but best not post that reg lol

    the car test needs to be up dated to teach cardrivers a bout bikes you carnt just bump in to abike and thay need to be tort that

    ps it used to be 3 years on a CBT then they cut it to 2 years to get more money out of you ?
    not anti cbt its good to do it once but if you safe rider why make you keep doing it ???
