      I had the same, even the colour! It was a very early crossover that I got early April 1972. The handlebars on mine were still Mk1 (adjustable) and it had Mk1 brake levers, but it did have Snowflake chainwheel, square top sissy bar, Mk2 grips and peddles.

    Sold my Raleigh RSW16 and convinced my Dad to help my buy a Mark 1 Chopper. If memory serves correct it cost the princely sum of £32. My Dad said he could have bought a real motorcycle for that sum of money! The bike was purchased from a shop called Taylor’s, they sold white goods like fridges and washing machines and also had a few new cycles for sale. I rode my new bike straight from Taylor’s shop to the local recreation ground where I proudly showed off my new Chopper. Happy Days.

    I had the larger framed Tracker, which was built by Tube Industries, new in 1972. It was ice blue with white walled tyres. The Tracker had the GT gear lever a few years before the Raleigh Chopper Mk.II came out. My younger brother had the Raleigh Tomahawk.
    Being larger framed than the Chopper, I didn't outgrow my Tracker until I was 14. I traded it in for a new Falcon 110 speed racer. I eventually grew up and bought a motorcycle, so have never ridden a bicycle since.

    Had a yellow mk1 bought new for 27 pounds. (Mam had a mate who worked for Raleigh) Loved that bike. The mk2 was much more err sensible!

    • @richardamner7432
      @richardamner7432 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The handlebars of the mk2 didn't twist forward when landing from a jump like the mk1 but the mk1 felt a little easier to wheelie.

    • @Free_Ranger_CT110
      @Free_Ranger_CT110 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@richardamner7432 yeah they fixed the bars in the stem & changed the seat stays putting more weight on the front wheel, making wheelies harder as you say.

    Popcorn hot butter! the music I had in my head on my first ride on a two wheel bicycle ...WOW, I was humming it as I looked up at the sun through the trees, the bike was owned by a girl who lived down the road and was purple, she said I could have a quick go .... this was my first feel of freedom, It felt so good, people talk of feeling it on a motorcycle but I felt it way back then as I peddled franticly...weaving around on a narrow tree lined lane, I had to hum the music to myself to keep up the pace as I was on a mile ride to my fav childhood place ...a bridge over a river at Cwmisfael, Carmarthenshire, and didn't want her to wait too long. During my time racing motocross and enduro I found I also sang songs to myself during a race, my daughter who raced from the age of 6 until 17 informed me that she also had to sing to herself to concentrate!! is this a Welsh thing???? or just the love of music entangled with bikes? after all the 70's were the best music yrs ever. I had a red mk2 when they came out, painted it black with red "Mirage" sticker and a red fur seat a few yrs later ( after a black Laverda Mirage I had seen in a mag. )

    I actually bought a 2001 mk 3 chopper with the aluminium frame and bought new old stock gear shifter and saddle with chrome bars and other bits and converted it to a Mk2. I rode it out to the supermarket and got lots of attention. The bikes are cool and unique but you need to beware. At speed the small front wheel would wobble on rough roads and pedaling uphill was risky cos they are back heavy and the front wheel will lift. I had to sell it and got a good price. A bloke drove 300 plus miles to buy it. He wanted it to hang on the wall of his nightclub.

      @@moncktonhotmail unless you did not know, the Mk3 it has gears on the handlebars and the seat is in two parts but only big enough for 1 person to sit on. That's why I converted it. Well, I bought it to convert. Its aluminium so lighter as well and don't rust.
