The Germans were very smart. Their record keeping was second to none... their country was relatively small so their resources were likewise very limited... toward the end of the war when they began to run out of supplies, they had to come up with replacements for standard materials... like leather. They began to run out of leather.... so they developed a way to tan layered paper. Some of their PPK holster rigs were actually made of paper and when you see, smell and hold one, you would swear to me that I was crazy and it was leather... in fact, paper. My grandparents were German and to this day I remember how they wasted nothing. American's are consumers. We throw everything away. It is good to re-frame your priorities and remember what WWII was like for Europeans, even the Germans.
The RZMs have one very distinct feature which cannot be counterfeited. No other PPK can be made into a RZM. If you examine the slide, the RZM's marking is placed behind the Walther markings. The Walther markings occupy the remaining forward space. A regular PPK does not have enough room at the back of the slide to add a RZM marking. They actually moved the Walther information forward to make room for the RZM engraving.
My great grand uncle was a forest ranger outside of Kaiserslautern, my grandfather came to America in 1926 after serving in WW1, my grandmother took us to meet the family in 1972 for 3 months. It was a great summer, to bad I wasn’t collecting walthers yet!
Just awesome! I have an "newer" pp, i think from about 42/43. I pursched it about 20 years agoo for nearly nothing, it had been in a safe for a long time, on a towel or something, it was pitted on 2 spots on the slide, the bluing was almost gone on the rest, i started to remove the rust and tried to polished it. It went well without out any oil on the outside the polished parts did not get any rust, some more to reach part on the frame got some "browning", that was just removed with an oiled cloth. The polished parts looked almost as chromed. Just a shooter, no specsl markings to find. After a tip from this channel I today find the stamp on the barrel!
That PPK is gorgeous! Thats an 84 year old gun! And looks like it just left the QC at the factory! I think new production PPKs in 'Bama look that nice.
I've got an Interarms Walther PPK/S 380. Made in the late 90's. All stainless steel. A beautiful gun. I think it is quite pleasant to shoot compared to an LCP in 380. Certainly better made and everything is metal except the grip panels. These Walthers are an interesting design having the barrel fixed to the frame. Love it and will never sell it. I like that the magazine shoe matched the grips on that RZM. And what looks like a lanyard loop. The blueing is just so deep on older firearms.
I gave up on sing those plug in anti humidity boxes. I just run a large dehumidifier for 6-7 months out of the year. Those do work well. I keep one in my bayonet case.
Yea those plug ins definitely aren't very effective by themselves. I found that out the hard way a few years ago when I got a new safe. Little bits of surface rust in a couple days. And the beads were all green in 2days. I installed a golden rod in there. And left the plug in inside also. And haven't had a problem since. Stays at 40-50% humidity and a few degrees above the room temp all year round. And the beads take months before they even start to turn green now. I mainly use the beads as an indicator for when to check and wipe stuff down once in a while.

..saw the Blue tag on one of your PPK Box the German word " OHNE SIGNALSTIFF". if memory serves me right, it means " Without signal pin" in German. Some PPKs in .22LR were made with out the loaded pin indicator for accidental firing precaution and still, towards the end of the war, the signal pin was omitted to save time and manufacturing expenses.
Just so you know the town does not end with the word "Celle". The abbreviation of 'Krs' is for 'Kreis' or 'county' So it would be "Ummere in the county of Celle.

I just bought a Walther pp .32 acp. Nothing special about it, but it came in the wrong box. It's labeled Walther pp 9mm with the serial number printed on the label outside of the box.

It’s also worth noting that he didn’t actually buy the gun himself. The writing on the inside of the box indicates that it was *presented* (präs. = präsentiert) on the 7th of either April or September (writing’s faded but I think that’s a 9 so September) 1936. So someone else ordered the gun and then gave it to him.
PPK's are interesting, but they're not very good guns by modern standards. They're straight blowback, and not the most pleasant guns to shoot even though they're only chambered in .32 and .380. If you want one as a collector or a conversation piece, go for it. If you want a shooter, go for something more modern.
@@WardenWolf I'm very accustomed to straight blowback. I own 5-6 other .32's that are straight blowback. The Colt 1903 for instance is a very pleasant gun to shoot. Just my opinion.

I live in the the Northwest and I've been using the Eva Dry E-333s for about 3-4yrs. I use 2 in my small rifle safe, 1 on the top shelf and 1 near the bottom. They work really well at keeping my safe dry.
Just to clarify : Celle is a Town in Germany as well as a region (Kreis), the numbering, as of today is that the numerical 1 as you see her has the little flag, what we Americans read as a 7, this is confusing for Germans as well, traveling to the us, looking at something that is priced as $ 10.00, assuming it’s ten bucks and are upset it is actually seventy Dollars.The writing on some parts of the box is called :”suetterlin” and there are not many people left who are able to read this....
Hi, really enjoying your videos. I have started collecting Walther APPs and PPKs, and have a really nice RFV marked PP in almost as new condition. I have the opportunity to acquire a RZM marked PPK and wondered if you had heard of Walther producing some batches of PPKs marked RZM around 1940 to replace broken RZM-PPKs?
Maybe the PPK is more for 2 legged critters and for social parties and a 1883 Reichsrevolver and/or Mauser 1871 carbine or jaegerbusche for bear and other big animals.
Might also be intended for finnishing off a hurt or damaged animal, the socalled Fangschuss. It is so deeple rooted in German hunting culture that even today a licensed hunter can carry a pistol when hunting. But NOT an his travel to and from his hunting area. Then his firearms have to be locked away in his car! Ordnung muss sein!
More for Fangschuss, final shot on downed and wounded game. Still aroundnin German hunter education today , .38 Spec, .357, 7,65 ,9mm short 9x19 allowed for that as backup.
Don't get those damp chasers too close a gun. I put a thing in my safe once that had the crystals in it. It drew out the moisture and close to itself. A gun fairly close by developed a fine fuzzy rust on it that fortunately wiped off with oil. Now I am afraid to use those but have no rust issues in my case which is in the home.
We’re revolvers not popular in Germany or Europe around ww2? Seems like people in North America rocked out revolvers for a lot longer than other areas. Cops used revolvers in the USA for years but Germany used more semi autos? I just picked up a new made ppks the ones made in fort smith AR. It’s a pretty cool little gun only shot it once and got 125 rounds out of it that ran pretty well. The sites seem higher than other past models.

I would never refer to something inert like a Gus with the term Nazi, republican, Communist, etc, because those words represent ideologies and nothing more. Can you imagine somebody advertising a Democrat M1 Garand? Would it make any sense at all? I don’t believe so. This pistol is a circa 1935 Walther PPK. Nothing more and nothing less.

The actual translation of “Dienstgebrauch” is “For Service Use” (Only) ! So it was considered to be a service weapon, not for private use !!

Ive owned two Walthers a PP in 7.65 , a West German gun and a PPK in 9mm Kurz , a Manhurin gun

Yes. They did make more RZM's in the 1938 - 1940 range. Very rare. Almost never see them anymore at shows or auctions.
Sold or traded off an RZM a number of years ago. Watching this makes me want another one.

I would love to have a PPK and a P38, the engineered designs are amazing. I think the replica co2 equivalents somehow don't quite cut it.

for a cheap dehumidifier product, you can use calcium for pools, I put it in a coffee filter and put it in a glass jar.. dirt cheap option..
