      I just bought the highland reverse flow. It's my first offset but I love it. I did no mods and it still works great. The fire box air flow could be better. I have setup a small fan to help it. Ut I'm still in love with this smoker

    I realize this video is 2 years old now, but thank you for posting it. I've got my Longhorn RF on the way right now. I gotta say, that wood is EVERYTHING!! Just curious, do you remember what kind of wood that was? I'm gonna do something similar and am debating different types of wood to use.

    I have the same smoker and I had my friend weld the firebox and then weld the firebox to the chamber. No leaks and it looks clean. I also put the gaskets around the doors. It works fine. The paint around the firebox pealed and I ended up getting high temp spray paint rates for 2k Fahrenheit. Overall it took a little extra work but it’s holding up good.

    I'm new to smoking and looking forward to it. I just ordered the Highland reverse flow due to deliver on 06/03/2020. Your mods are the best I've seen yet and very informative. Do you have a video on washing the manufacturing oil off and seasoning? i see where some people mention the paint burning off the fire box but yours looks great. You can throw in some initial smoking tips also.

    Sweet. Been smoking on a 26" Webber for 5-6 years with the snake method. Ready to upgrade to this one. You mentioned adding a second grate? Any link to this modification? Lastly I've read where folks say the smoke box paint chips leading to rust. Have you experienced this with your Longhorn? Thank you sir. Looking forward to applying some of your mods to my new smoker.

    Have you ever thought about or years of anyone modifying the exhaust stack?

  • @toandang4299
    @toandang4299 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great mods! Do you have a big temperature difference between the left and right side?
    Just as a suggestion, you may want to put your water pan on the left side as opposed to the right (by the smoke stack). As is, because the air flow is left to right, then to the smoke stack, I don't think it's very effective there. Rather, on the left, it can actually moisten the air prior to it reaching the meat.

    • @dstnctbbq9018
      @dstnctbbq9018  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Toan Dang absolutely i caught that later lol I am so used to running right to left on the horizontal. On this smoker it has very even temperature. I normally run 5 degrees hotter on the right. I dont even consider that to be a difference because its so little, as far as cooking. Thanks for the input

    Great looking mods! Do you recall what part number the latches were? I have the same smoker and want to get the latches. What size drill bit did you use for the latches?

    • @dstnctbbq9018
      @dstnctbbq9018  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Todd Harrington hey how is going? Thanks for the feedback. The model number on the latches that are 100* is LL12050. I dont remember the bit size ill double check when i get home and post additional info in the video description.

      Todd Harrington absolutely got some editing to do. More videos coming real soon. Mods definitely make the fueling more efficient. Less charcoal and wood for sustained temp, I can say that for sure.

  • @joshuafreeman6720
    @joshuafreeman6720 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The wood is beautiful. My questions are... I did gasket and rtv on my cooker. But the Firebkx lid gasket eventually burnes away and the rtv i put where the firebox and cook chamber meet as well as the Firebox, well i coukd smell the chemicals from it it took a bunch if cooks for that scent to stop and eventually the rtv flaked away too. And obvioualy the locks on the firebkx doesn't melt.. How. Lol. Great video im interestes in buying one of these. How sturdy are the tuning plates

    • @dstnctbbq9018
      @dstnctbbq9018  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joshua Freeman the tuning plates are very sturdy, much thicker and heavier than i thought they would be. I used the rtv from bbqsmokermods.com i have not smelled any chemicals. I season the grill for about 6 hrs. Though after any mod i add. Ill have some newer videos up soon ive added a few things since this

    Cool video, do you not use minion blocks, in the firebox?

    • @dstnctbbq9018
      @dstnctbbq9018  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, no I dont use the minion method. I push my fuel towards the back of the cage and pre heat my wood towards the front before adding it in. I prefer coals that go in be lit prior to going in the firebox. I may give it a try though just to compare the different methods
