Pom Pom was one of my middle school albums and I can confirm that everything you said is unfortunately 100% true. Haven’t listened to any new music since dedicated to Bobby Johnson and I’m keeping it that way.
Bold to assume the Gen Z Alvvays fans are still puffing cigarettes instead of the high-nicotine menthol ice vapes. They may be hipsters but even they're not immune
It’s funny how at one point Azealia Banks, Sun Kil Moon and Ariel Pink were all hot shit and they all quickly disgraced their careers not even a decade later.
my girlfriend is a pretty big alvvays fan, they’re a bit flimsy indie girl vibes for me, but they’re pretty solid from what she’s given from them to listen to.
Great video and commentary. But the realization that Frank Ocean’s Blonde (my favorite record of that decade) is not too far off from being here is equal parts distressing and intriguing.
the only reason i prefer red over 1989 is that it, overall, has more good tracks. the back half (*cough*everything after stay stay stay) is actually pretty decent. however it is incredibly mid and 1989 has always gotten on my nerves.
Honestly, I'm so glad you dropped this because I really appreciate your style of humour and dry wit, even tho you're roasting albums from some of my absolute fave artists (Ultraviolence and the Alvvays self-titled) lol Speaking of Alvvays, I actually saw them live when they toured Australia last month and they were amazing
He's also going to have to make jokes about Carrie & Lowell, which he has admitted to never being able to make it through in one sitting because it's so emotionally devastating.
Um, I have to disagree about 1989 being better than Red. Red is clearly the better album IMO! The highs are higher, nothing on 1989 is better than 'All Too Well', and I'd take 'I Knew You Were Trouble' and '22' over 'Shake It Off' and 'Bad Blood' any day of the week.
I'm surprised that "Under Pressure" isn't included. Is it because Logic is irrelevant in the mainstream rap game so it would feel like punching down on him?
Re: Casualties of Cool as a huge Hevy Devy fan: The album itself is fine and has gorgeous production, but I almost never go back to it. In many ways, it's a better version of Ki, which I also almost never go back to. My favorite songs from CoC are Flight, Gone is Gone and The Bridge.
@@Drogon7102 "I think it was supposed to mean like everyone else already kind of knows she sucks now." It's 100% this. And this was before Nicki threw a massive hissy fit (pun intended) over that Megan Thee Stallion song, which only added to people dunking on her.
4:40 Pretty bad take to call modern Ghost more evil than the Satanist. I say this as a fan of old Ghost and a casual fan of Behemoth. Also, one should look into the context of religion in Poland before judging Nergal.
I know that Nergal has said openly that he supports the suing of rape victims if the charges wind up getting dropped - I'm perfectly fine judging him regardless of Poland's backward--ass blasphemy laws. And Ghost is more credibly Satanic because for as much of a tool as Tobias can be, he gets that the intoxicating allure and glamour of darkness - that it should be somewhat fun - should be central to the calling rather than the utterly boring regurgitation of Anton LeVay from decades ago.
@@SpectrumPulseFair play, but honestly, there is some merit to being allowed to sue somebody who falsely accuses you of a crime which results in unjustified imprisonment and/or damage to reputation. He allegedly did something far worse back in 2001 and talked about it in detail, so if you're going to dunk on Nergal, I'd probably start there. Also, unrelated - if I'm not mistaken, this video came out like one day before Devin and Che Aimee confirmed they were working on writing for a sequel to CoC
As someone who’s read The Satanic Bible multiple times, I honestly don’t see how you’re conflating Nergal with LaVey. LaVey was ALL about glamour, intoxication and humor. To paraphrase the man himself - ‘A Satanist without a sense of humor would be utterly intolerable’. Tobias Forge is farrrrr closer to LaVey and the Satanic philosophy than Nergal is. Nergal (and Behemoth’s music in general) owes much more to Aleister Crowley and Thelema than it does to LaVey 🤷♂️
I can’t wait to see my favorite albums turn to marshmallows!

Sun Kil Moon and Ariel Pink have been around for decades

Great content as always.
That was a fun video, with expectable amount of snark and takes that def will piss somebody of while I personally just had a blast

I still think the Sunbather roast from last year is the best so far
The smartest and funniest critic on the internet strikes again!!
The entries for To Be Kind and The Satanist kind of stung, but you're also not wrong.
10 year anniversary!
oh the hozier roast was brutal. completely deserved, but brutal
Oh hell yeah!
Looking forward to next year where you have to find something to roast TPAB on, good luck 😅

That Porter Robinson roast is so true but that's also why i like the album so...😅

Man said attacking Nicki Minaj would be punching down? Huh?
I think it was supposed to mean like everyone else already kind of knows she sucks now. But yeah i dont know.
