The DV is a legendary mouthpiece that is in a class of its own. If i had to pick one, I'd still go with the metal DV :) There's something about the tone it possesses that is difficult to replicate, even with the DV HR. The tone of the DV metal comes across to me as crystal clear especially in the low end and I don't quite get that with the DV HR. Both mpcs have enough warmth in them though. For those who prefer the feel of a HR mouthpiece, the DV HR would feel very much at home. For someone who is so used to metal mpces like myself, i'd stick with my DV metal :)
There’s something about having metal on metal.. brass on brass.. (okay, the cork in between), and then the GOLD PLATING?! Golden Ratio proportions??!! These, to me, are the selling points of the DV Metal mouth piece. The sound comes from all these points, AND ofcourse; the baffle and chambering. I’m glad that Jody has the patent on the golden mean proportions of the second opening. That’s gangsta. Well done Jody for re-discovering this renaissance golden ratio to incorporate into your work. 👏🏽 P.S I’ll be buying a DV in the new year after watching MANY videos on all your mouthpieces! Thank you, and happy new year! P.P.S Please could someone recommend a tip opening to go with a 2.0 M/H D’addario Jazz Select Reed? Shall I move up to a 3.0 as I’ve heard in some videos about this mouthpiece/reed combo? God bless!!!
Great company, I only happened upon Richard’s guitars on TH-cam. The presentation and love for his products was evident. I bought a guitar soon after. Thank you

Yes you really can’t go wrong with a JodyJazz DV on alto! I would think a size 6 or 7 would be good for you. You can get the mouthpiece first, then try several reeds to see what works best
Gorgeous tone! Either piece sounds wonderful. I have the DV and it is so versatile! I can play just any style on it! But I would have preferred hard rubber. Oh well. I still love the metal, I’m just more of a hard rubber person. Great review and beautiful playing.
Great work as usual! For me, none of the Jody Jazz pieces have ever resonated with me and my playing, there is just something “missing. However I can admit that they are fantastic pieces to play
@@DanielChiaOfficial For sure! I keep telling other players to not hate so much on brands that other people like that they don’t. Everyone is unique, and every saxophone setup should reflect that.
Howdy. Nice video and great information. I have been playing a Jody Jazz DV 7* with a Legere Classic 2.5 reed for years now on my Cannonball Tenor. I just recently bought my first Alto Saxophone for the occasional girl ballad. My question is do you think I would play the same strength Alto DV-HR? Are they as free blowing as my Tenor MP is? Love your site! I just subscribed
I have been playing jodyjazz mouthpieces for a while. I played the HR and Giant and recently switched to the metal Dv. All size 7’s. The two DV’s that you played sound incredibly different. The HR DV sounds like the HR. Comparing the two Hr’s would be something I would like to see.
hard to tell whic one is better but as far as dv silver for tenor which i have. A hard rubber is more suitable for mojo in classic jazz. i think for hard rubber mouthpiece there are no more than vintage ottolink slant signature. thanks for updating with a new mouthpiece released lately.
Very informative thank you, I have been playing a Drake NY Jazz for 10 years, but looking for something brighter as I tend to darken the sound of a mouthpiece. Ordered a DV HR 7, will see...
I have the DV HR and love it but i'm having a hard time finding the right ligature for it. What brand of ligature are you using on this video? Thanks in advance.
Hey I’m using the Ishimori ligature, but I think the JodyJazz POWER RING works great too. I’ve used a standard 2-screw ligature with it and works great too!
@@DanielChiaOfficial cool. Can you provide me the model and size of this ishimori lig? I ordered the power ring but i had bad experience with it when I used to have the metal DV a couple years ago, it just sounded stuffy but will give another chance for the DV HR.
@@DanielChiaOfficial Based on my experience Jody Jazz mouthpieces sounds brighter and moré punchy, whereas Theo Wanne mouthpieces sounds dark and more mellowed, which suits my style of music.
Wow, I lost it when you started the nearness of you on the new mouth piece. Absolutely soulful and beautiful.
Aw thank you!
You had me at the first note of The Nearest of You. Well done my friend.
Thank you!
Fantastic playing, great tone and musicality. Both mouthpieces sound fab. Probably, as expected, the HR sounds darker to me. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for the kind words!

Yes exactly! Really depends if someone is used to HR or metal

Daniel, you are sounding good on both mpc.
I am using the HR custom dark .... not sure if I should get a bigger tip or this DV HR. :)
Thank you!! Will be good to test them!
Can you make a comparison with the new selmer jazz flow?
I havent tried it but i can try!

Great job, Daniel! I noticed the tip opening on the DV is 7. What tip opening is the DV HR?
Hey they are both size 7!
I dont know i play joddy jazz dv star and i cant adapt to dv hr
That’s fine!
I need to get both
Yes :)
hi Daniel. Can that mouthpiece patch on the metal mouthpiece be taken off and changed? its a bit hard to bite-grip with that..
Yes it definitely can!
I like more The HR then Metal .
Yeah!

Bump.
What difference there may be is totally negligible. I prefer metal for longevity of the material.
Totally!
Theo Wanne NY Bro is a better choice in my perspective.😊

I play Jody Jazz mouthpieces but they are all over priced, production cost $20 selling price $229.- rip off
Wow. Would love to see you produce it for $20. I’ve personally toured the factory
