Interesting. The novel that adapts this scene says Leia get off the throne and pushes the Jawas away, but it seems that part either never happened or hadn't been filmed for whatever reason.
Thanks for the comment! That would have given Leia something to do here. In general, I guess the issue with this scene is that it show Luke using a force jump (as we've seen in Empire) but then he kills the rancor just by throwing a rock. It's a minor nitpick, but I can see why retrospectively they thought it might not work.
