Ah, Agito. In my opinion, this is the show that really learned from Kuuga, what worked what didn't and cemented what Kamen Rider could be. I love this show and it showed me why I fell in love with this genre in the first place after Kuuga kinda left me somewhat disappointed. I love to see characters struggle and grow and Agito was all about this, that is why it worked for me so well. I was never bored while watching this show. Love it.
There's actually a quote about the Kuuga connection on the KR wiki (the source link is dead sadly) about how they dropped the Kuuga stuff because they thought that a new threat to humanity after Godai fought so hard against the Grongi would be unfair to his efforts. Whether or not you agree on a story level is personal, but that's the gist of it.
Thanks for making these videos! I never noticed how underwhelming some of Agito's transformations were introduced in comparison to Kuuga's, but that's probably because I'm a sucker for the multiple Rider formula that Agito does so well. I see what you mean about Ryo not doing much early on, but I think that helps distinguish not only him from Shouichi, but Agito as a series from Kuuga. The three Riders of Agito all have different elements of Godai's character.
Hikawa is the one who makes a conscious decision to fight monsters even though he has no personal stake in the matter. Shouichi has Godai's carefree personality, except the only reason he's able to have that is due to his amnesia. Ryo shares the most in terms of Godai's constant struggle to learn and master Kuuga's constant evolutions to survive. The plot definitely struggles in terms of pacing, but the three protagonists and their relationships with and to one another hold it all together, at least for me, until the fantastic payoff at the end (though the writers did Ryo dirty throughout the whole thing).

haha! It just never really occurred to me for whatever reason. As I stated, I have kind of an "angle" for all my Kamen Rider videos so you're gonna hear me talk about character trauma a LOT
