Good presentation on the topspin lob, Tom. I find that I have to be sure to swing with a good amount of extra effort to get the lob high enough and deep enough since a lot of the energy is going into spinning the ball and not into propelling it upwards and forwards.
No, your swing path is extreme LOW TO HIGH so the ball will GO UP even though the racquet is VERTICAL at contact and brushing the ball for the topspin it will need to be pulled back down in the court. To your tennis success, Tom
I assume you're talking about returning topspin lobs... you need to use your overhead smash against a lob or if it gets over your head try to run it down and hit the tweener or lob it back high and deep. To your tennis success, Tom
Same as forehand just reversed... only caveat... one-handed backhand is hit further in front of of the lead foot... two-handed backhand is like hitting a left handed forehand topspin lob. All the best, Tom

Should we open the racket face at contact when hitting a top spin lob?

How do you prevent the shot from going too deep and out of the court?
Swing path needs to be on a steeper angle which creates more RPM's (more spin) which will pull the ball down.
To your tennis success,
Tom
@@Fundamentalsoftennis thanks for the response
