- While working with the FBI and Shiawassee County Sheriff's Office, Chris Hansen busted a then 45-year-old man attempting to solicit a 15-year-old girl. The suspect, Thomas Eugene Bates, accepted a plea deal and was sentenced to five years of probation for "Children - Accosting for Immoral Purposes."

They've skated by and been able to talk their way out of it up to this point, it's good that they don't understand silence is their best option. The old videos I was always flabbergasted when they get taken back to the station and waive their right to a lawyer.

I thought a lot about that too; I think a lot of it is that the average citizen is scared to death of having to spend a night in jail, getting strip searched, etc. So they mistakenly think that if they just get the detective to like them and see that they're a good person (I mean in their own mind), the detective will say okay you're an all right guy, go home and Don't do it again. In reality, it doesn't matter what the detective thinks, all that matters is the evidence that can be used to secure a conviction
They talk because they dont think it incriminates them and that he wont believe them due to him not being a police officer. If he said he was a detective, they wouldnt be as open.
Zip it. That should be the mantra for every citizen.
I don't care that Chris has gotten famous off of this. I don't care if he makes money off of it either. I care that he's done more to stop this than any politician has in my entire life.

Yeah but that got into some murky legal waters back in the day, it was a fine line between entrapment and initiation, plus he wasn't really allowed to detain anyone. Nowadays, as far as I'm aware, he is deputized by various agencies. That's why he only works with sheriff depts now. That gives him the right to detain and interrogation powers.
That being said, he always had the right to commit a citizens arrest, BUT that meant as soon as he announced that he could no longer question the perp, well he could but it wouldn't be admissable

Many claimed they weren't before Chris interviewed them, but they never used it in court, thus creating doubt in the minds of the jury. This mode of execution is undoubtedly safer, but not as entertaining.

Chris makes such an AMAZING interrogator. He's always so gentle, soft-spoken, and disarming. He could get a mute to tell him everything. It's almost hypnotizing the way he talks and says things. "You're in a bit of trouble here." He almost sounds sympathetic. Just brilliant to watch.

As a child who was a victim of men like this, always through meeting up after chatting online, I really value what Chris does, people don’t understand how big an issue this is. How much it really impacts kids
I became a victim at 18 months old. My mom was a grieving widow with two kids in diapers and no family closer than a 12 hour drive. I know how you feel and I hope you have risen above the damage. I am now 61 and still have repressed memories arising. I have almost reached the point of comfort but since I was also stalked, there is one thing I can't stop, me fear of what I can't see in the dark. I wish there was an answer to this problem.

Something like this happen 10 years ago Oakland,Calif and a few other town police were buying an under age prostut and hers mother worked for the police department. The young gal got a lawyer and sued Oakland police department and a few other departments and one police officer commited killed himself. That's how everyone got caught he wrote a note about how everything went down.
It's all public information.
These San Francisco police officers were taking vacations to an Asian country buying underage Asian girl's the parent's would sell them because of the poor living conditions. All those police officers got caught because a detective fallow them out there he was wondering why all these officers taking vacations to the same place. There are many many police officer's that have the same peddp stories the news media just sweeps it under the back page in San print hopefully no one reads it.

there is a TV show called Undercover Underage where a group called SOSA do similar investigations with decoys, but they address more modern ways that kids get preyed on like Instagram and they show how some of these guys will really take their time with grooming to get teens to trust them. I’m 21 and I think it’s really accurate to the issues I saw online in middle and high school. It does include some really disturbing language but it is the language these people use when they’re contacting minors. I think it’s rated 13+ or 14+, maybe you could watch it with your daughter to help the conversation about safety

Chris Hanson is finally back, great to see & hear. I miss his great work, alongside his partnerships with agencies across the country.
It is really sad that cancer took his wife but grief doesn't turn people into predators. Add to that the fact that he has a son about the same age as the kid he thought he was talking to. That poor guy, losing his mom and then he'll find out about his dad. Tragedy all around but I hope the son has other, better people in his life to support him after this.

His affair was with a 19 year old when he was 52 and her boss which was allegedly under duress, there’s numerous people he hasn’t paid for either goods or services, he scammed his own subscribers on his TH-cam channel, he started stalking that weirdo with a name like Onion (sorry I’m a boomer) and numerous other things. He’s far from being a good or even decent person. I've only recently read about all the cases that had to be dropped because of the methods they used. I think that’s why they arrest them first now.

Chris I can tell you from first hand experience (my boyfriend's father) did this to me when I was 14! He wanted to "be my first" or to take my innocence, whichever it was It's an accomplishment or ego trip, who knows. He is a sick sick man. I know that he lives somewhere in South Florida, and I live in Central Florida. I wrote to him on his FB, and told him that he should repent every day for doing this to me. Actually, there were many other older boys in my neighbors who also preyed on me...

Very very true about the 9 out of 10 people who get caught trying to sleep with underage kids have no criminal records. It could be the person next to you in line at the grocery store, the person working at your school, or your childhood friends parent! You have to be aware of your surroundings and if your child starts to act differently around a certain adult. Very Very important to keep an eye on your child. It could be anyone and all it takes is one time to mess that child up forever!
