Some people are so money hungry and greedy. I hate the fact that family members always pull the 'family' card so they get it easy or a discount. I don't care family or not; discount or not, I still pay full price bc I know how hard it is to run a business.

Yup. I learn if someone asks to "borrow" money, if you're going to give them money, look at it as it'll never return it'll be a gift. But you don't have to tell them that, in hopes they will honestly pay you back. Only give what you can afford to lose. Or better yet, set a limit so you won't suffer. Like, your max to lend money is $1,000 or $500 or whatever. That way you won't lose so much. You and your wife are too nice. But your story is a good story to learn from

I experienced this too but fortunately, it was only $1k and the relative finally returned it after almost 5 years only because it was such a small amount. Others who lent him tens of thousands never got their money back. With the money, he bought land and built a hotel in Laos, which he is still running to this day. Another relative borrowed money from my mom and dad a long time ago. After my father died, my mom went to ask for it back. He even have the audacity to yell at my mom making her cry. Yes, to this day, they haven't paid it back and will never pay it back. Another relative wanted to borrow $10k from me to pay his property tax. They have 3 huge properties in Florida and I only have my 1/3 acre rundown house which I'm still paying. I thought about it and said to myself, "Am I stupid or something to lend them money when they have 3 properties and I only have 1? Why can't they just borrow from the bank? $10k if I put it in the bank or invest, I can earn money" so I wanted them to signed a loan agreement first. They then pulled out. I also had some Hmong Lao asking to borrow from me. I said no cuz I know they can't pay me back. We need to learn to say 'NO". Like I've said a thousand times, "Siab zoo yog siab ruam". I've learned that if you have money, just give and don't lend. I've learned that don't lend anymore than you're willing to lose because there's a 50% chance you will never see it again. Plus, it will cause discontent between you and the person who owed you money. So if you lend them money, they'll love you now but hate you later. If you don't lend them money, they'll hate your now and hate you later. But it's better they hate you rather than they hate you and you also lost money to them. So even if you have the money, just make excuses... at the very least, make a contract and have it notarized so it will stand up in court if push comes to shove.

My dad was an orphan and he was the scape goat. His cousins “adopted him” just so they can use him and blame him. They never loved him genuinely but in the end he was the most successful and the only one not in the flower business or the only one not with a niam Mos ab wife.
To this day his cousins still come to ask him for money and always tells him he owes them.
But he learned his lesson when his youngest cousin borrowed $5k then moved to avoid paying back.

This guy is my parents. They always loan money to their relatives but noone has ever repaid them back and they can't say or do anything but complain behind close doors 🤬. They never learn.
