    This video has great advice! I took a two week course on trading and forex a year ago. Since then I've just been reading trading books, blogs, and getting tons and tons of screen time. Watching all the moving parts and letting my brain gradually join the dots. I have also turned $200 into $1000 twice in swing trades. Also, 25% gains on intraday trades. Slow and steady, folks.

      I actually do believe around here that knowledge is one of the best gifts of life. I could boldly say that Sqb-amac is the best trading system our here and Yuril Zubong is the best mentor and teacher I've ever met.
      I started small heading towards consistency and much more accuracy. I can call ten trades and have a winning ratio of 90%. That's perfect. I'm still in the process but I could boldly say I'm good. Lol😊.. This is what's good.
      Sqb-amac course is the best I've seen.

    How does tc2000 compare to thinkorswim? Why pay for tc2000 when think or swim is free?

    • @TradeRisk
      @TradeRisk  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's been a long time since I've explored Thinkorswim so I couldn't comment on the specifics, but you're right there is probably a large overlap in offerings. The scanner is what makes TC2000 most powerful, the ability to write your indicators, and the flexibility in their PCF formulas, but to the extent that you can write those from scratch in TOS there may not be any added benefits.

    Hi guys, how much previous data ( historical data on chart ) does one look at to base a decision on a trade? Can this be months or years? For swing and Position trading? Thanks!

    • @TradeRisk
      @TradeRisk  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Ryan, good question. The short broad answer would be, the more data the better. I'll always prefer to see years of historical data over just a couple of months.
      The specific lookback, however, depends entirely on an individual's system. Some traders might be able to execute only looking at the prior 30 days of price action. Others might require a year, so it really depends on the system and what the buy and sell rules are.
      For me personally, I like to see a long term 1.5 year+ uptrend in place, and then I'll use shorter term daily charts to execute and get me into that trend. But that is just me. Hope this helps!

    • @TradeRisk
      @TradeRisk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're asking about responsible risk management principles, the general rule is you want to be risking 1% or less of your account per trade. You could put your entire $500 into 1 stock and buy 100 shares, but in that scenario you'd need to exit if it fell 1% (5 cents) against you.

    Surprised you didn't mention paper trading! Any new trader should paper trade until they achieve at least 65% correct picks CONSISTENTLY, for at least two months straight before ever risking real money. The emotions involved in trading (and probably losing) real money is way too much for a new trader and will most likely overshadow any real learning. Paper trading allows a newbie to relax and learn strategies without the emotions. TC2000 and Tradingview both allow paper trading, and with Tradingview (not sure about TC2000) you can limit the dollar amount of your paper account so you can mimic what your real trading will become when you finally trade for real cash. By the way, at the time of my post, MOST of the Trading services: ETrade, Scottrade, etc are now "free."

    Great vid.. What is your thoughts on buying a swing position accidentally at the peak due to impatience and assuming the breakout of an ascending pattern? I am currently stuck on a trade CHK but based on my TA on the 4hr and Day chart, everything is bullish, however indicators such as the RSI and MACD are looking bearish. So with this in mind, i decided that I am going to ride this until it goes back up. I used the ATR x 2 Stop loss strategy on the day chart which brings my stop at near 10% and below the swing low on the day chart as well. I have the proper position size and am willing to risk a max of 5% of my capital. So im giving it major room to move, but because of the indicators and seeing it go further below my position, im starting to scratch my head.. What would be the best solution for this?? i want to stick to my plan and not sell since TA based on support, resistance and trend and still showing an uptrend. Look forward to maybe some quick advice.

    • @TradeRisk
      @TradeRisk  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The short advice I generally give in situations like this is to forget about where price is right now and ask yourself at the time of entering into this trade, where was your planned exit point in the event this trade didn't go in your favor? Is it still above that point right now? Then stick with it (aka whatever your original plan said, don't suddenly question it now).
      On the other hand, I can't tell by the way you started off the comment describing the purchase as an "accidental entry at the peak due to impatience". If that means this was a trade that you don't normally take, or isn't part of your trading plan, then you should probably just exit right now and forget "hoping it might come back".
      I hope that helps.

    • @TheBullHedge
      @TheBullHedge 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey man thanks for the reply.. i normally trade the break outs instead of pull backs for my swings, i guess the problem was, that i did not wait for the opening candle to close, as it started out green then ended up on the red and yes, it has already went below my exit plan in the beginning. I ended up making a whole new plan on the day chart giving me more room for the stop as it is clearly on an up trend on the bigger time frame.

    • @TradeRisk
      @TradeRisk  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah gotchya, that makes sense. Yeah I'm with you, I always like to wait for those candle closes. Well all the best to you, sounds like you've got a new plan and risk management in place.

  • @kreteman777

    What would be the point in making. $50-$100 a year. For that matter even $500-1000 a year is nothing. Think about how many hours a year you put into trading and you'll get the point.

    • @TradeRisk
      @TradeRisk  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a good point, the expectations for starting out returns should be quite low (negative for your first year(s) is even reasonable). But the goal is to develop a process (strategy) that can return, say double-digit percentages per year, at which point your dollar per year returns will grow proportionally with more capital. If one can achieve this, then the initial time invested in learning to trade is well worth it.

      The Trade Risk If robinhood is free, ever stopped and wondered how they make money? ever compared their bid-ask spread or the prices of stocks with normal discount brokers? do they even show you the bid-ask spread? I'll bet their prices will be higher. Don't trust anything thats claimed to be free.

    • @storiesfromearth-jd58
      @storiesfromearth-jd58 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      One of the ways that Robinhood "makes" money is by earning interest on the money that you have in your account that is not being traded. It's been a great platform so far! But you're free to pay the broker of your choice, of course.

      Hey Alex, I'm not sure about their other products, but for stocks, it is a half penny per share with a minimum transaction cost of $1. Trading 1,000 shares would get you up to $5, but that is not the minimum. I've been a customer for years and can verify this. • @TradeRisk
      @TradeRisk  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes we absolutely agree! Starting slow and progressing slow is exactly what we talk about and recommend in this video. However penny stocks are not a route we think most traders should go down, especially beginners. The price per share makes them attractive but there is a reason why those companies are trading so low.

      Of course, it is. Anyone could work minimum wage for 1 day and earn that same amount.
      The point is that you need to think in terms of percentages and keep things relative. If you start off learning how to trade with a $500 account and can do it successfully (ie earn $50-$100 over the course of a year) you can easily scale that as you accumulate more wealth to invest. Suddenly that same return of 10% - 20%, compounded year on year, starts to look pretty meaningful on a 50K account, 100K account, etc.

      I recently signed up with robinhood to get started. So you can set up stop losses on robinhood? I haven't made any trades on there yet.

      Well yes and no. You learn or from 10 small gains than one big gain. Especially when learning. Because there is so much competition against you , you are better off getting small gains

    20% a year is waist of time. Many stocks give you 100% or more a year passive income. Swing trade made right, make you lot more though.

      100% if you can get 100% a year over many years you would be richer than Warren Buffet before you turn 90 years old.. He averages 22% at best.. u must be smoking some good shiit..

    Except for the 90% of traders who lose money and eventually give up.

      Correct, active trading is not for everyone (not for most). Just like starting a business, there is a high failure rate.

    Bottomine you need capital and balls to be a swing trader. If you can't cut being down on a trade then swing trading us not for you. I can be 5k plus down on a trade I don't care because my target will be a 10k gain. Half the time I rarely look at a position. I'll know when my target hits with my alerts. Actually swing trading is much more profitable and less stressful than trying to scalp. Do not try trading with a 1000 or less. You'll just give it away. Because obviously you don't have the experience. This is why there are so many brokers today. It's taking candy from babies

      @@loafandjug321 clown? If you want to trade a 1k account great but you won't make enough money to sustain your life. It's all about position size and risk and management. A 1k account if you are trading portions of micro lots and are just slowly growing the account with patients, it can be done. When you get to a point and you have serious money in the account the game changes. Another topic
