Using google streetview to get the shrubbery right is great attention to detail. As much as I love Black Mesa and the original Half Life, central New Mexico isn't supposed to look like Monument Valley.
Hey man, just wanted to say that this is genuinely impressive. I have no idea why it was recommended to me and from the level of detail you put into this, I was expecting it to be from a larger channel with more views. You can imagine my shock when I saw the video hadn't even reached 1k views, but I have a good feeling this will pop off in the algorithm. Best of luck man, keep doing what you're doing - it's cool af.
Inversely I'm pretty surprised to see that this video is apparently getting picked up by the algorithim. I just meant to share this with friends but out of nowhere it's gotten like 800 views and is still climbing. Definetly glad you enjoyed it, though.
Idk what it is but the freedom and community support for gmod makes this type of stuff so much fun (and easy) to do and learn. I made so many posters from gmod and you can get some insane results (like this man) or try using a vanilla type style like the gmod menu backgrounds. Fun and enjoyable.
It really is crazy what people have mamaged to do with this old ass game. I'm pretty fortunate to stand on the shoulders of giants, I can't imagine what it must've been like to be some of the first people making art with Gmod.
yo bro, just wanted to say that i really love your work and alternate half life story so much, it really inspires me to make my own scenebuildings :) (sorry for bad english)
I love your alternate half-life worldbuilding. I really like how you made The Black mesa incident more realistic and plausible in your previous video. Are you going to make another video like the Hierarchy problem?
Probably. I do have an eventual sequel covering the uprising and those events planned, but I'm just busy with other stuff at the moment. Besides that, I've also been workshopping some similar videos, like one that treats The Mist like a real event, or some kind of occult-ish zombie infection starting on the Eastern Front of World War 2.
@@nuclearpotato4073 Great! I will look forward to it. Have you seen videos by Neinfeld? I really like how he describes events all around the world and all those little details. The last stand of Saddam Husein, the various resistance groups and Istambul uprising etc. I also like his backstory how characters from Half life 1 (Vance, Kleiner, Barney) happened to be in the eastern europe and how "lambda" resistance is one of many human resistance group, but they have knowledge and technologies from Black Mesa research.
@@JayJohn-p9t I did indeed. I'm the one who provided the idea of how the scientists got out of America, as a matter of fact. Neinfeld also helped with the creation of my videos.
Looks great! I've actually been trying my hand at stuff like this too. Any recommendations for actual scenebuild prop packs I could get? I've got a couple from the workshop but their options are pretty limited.
I've just started to learn how to scene build on my shitty 2014 Dell laptop hopefully In the future ill be on this level, lighting for me is something I struggle with so at the moment Im using mods like CSM and some atmospheric changers that kinda do a lot of the work for me lol.
@@nuclearpotato4073 Thanks for responding, bro. One more thing: How did you attach those clothes to those ragdoll models? And if they are public add-ons, where can I install them?
How do you stay motivated with making scenebuilds? I tried to make a "realistic" scenebuild, but the amount of work just to find the correct addons and setting up the models really burned myself out.
I've been doing this stuff for a little while, so I think I've got a rythym that helps keep me going. That, and I usually have a pretty clear idea of what I want to make, and I'm usually pretty excited to get to that point. Gmod art is a hobby where all it tajes to get better is just repeatedly doing it, and if you're struggling, I'd recommend trying to make art on maps. You can still make really great stuff there and it's a good way to practice posing, photography, and the principles of lighting in a much lower stakes environment. I definetly don't recommend scenebuilding as a beginner because it's a pain in the ass and can easily scare beginners away from source art entirely.
@@nuclearpotato4073 Actually I did scenebuilding back in 2020! Specifically TF2 style builds. I'm still trying to go back into the whole GMOD art with the realistic approach and yeah.. its hard to find that rythm you spoke off
We're riding out of the black mesa city with this one 🔥 👌
slawg was listening to the chris chan documentary while working on this😭
A crazy schizophrenic is talking. Listen and learn.

Glad you're giving it a shot. It's one of those things where all you have to do to get better at it is to just keep doing it.

Ok ok, fyp kickin it rn. Hopefully I get more content like this because this shit slaps.

It's something you get better at just by doing it a lot, and you'd be surprised just how many of the big artists have terrible setups

Do you have a workshop list of all your addons for scene building?
Do you have a reddit profile? I feel like I've seen something similar to this on the Half-Life sub.
