In Europe we had the same Lo-D devices under Hitachi brand. Low quantities of 5500 model arrived, but you can found in Germany, Switzerland...
How does it perform compared to a Revox 215 and Nakamichi Dragon?
Revox очень капризная дека и дружит далеко не со всеми типами лент, Дракон имеет реверс, там где реверс - плохо, а эта Hitachi топ, но если находится в отличном состоянии, обычно они копаные-перекопанные "мастерами".
Wonderful machine. Unfortunately, as far as I know, the Lo-D equipment was not sold in Europe. We only got much cheaper stuff labeled as Hitachi.
Ohhh the irony... We envy you because you had Studer, Tangberg, Eumig... ;)
It seems like we always want what we can't have.
The HITACHI was not cheaper stuff. In fact this model was sold in Europe too....as HITACHI and tested in German magazines.

Hitachis got many good stuff and they weren't exactly 'cheap'.

Yep, they used to have all sorts of lengths to suite the need of as many people.
Back in the days, people used to plan how many songs they will throw in their "mix tapes", so they knew exactly how many minutes they needed...
In Japan selling TDK SA-X 42 or not
They're not manufactured for a long time now.
But you can find them in sealed new condition, if you're lucky on the online auctions.
