    Jon was surprisingly competent and perceptive this episode...
    *...DEAR GOD*

      Except for the fact he could create Sub routines he could insert without having to remake the whole program, besides that little feature he missed everything was pretty good

    • @bum170
      @bum170 6 ปีที่แล้ว +48

      The key part is he actually did things that worked, and when it didn't he actually *noticed the problem* and fixed them *correctly.*

    so, the problem with going for the furthest-away-ball is that when you get closer to it is is no longer the furthest away = change target ball...

      Watch the full ep first...

    • @TheEvolNemesis
      @TheEvolNemesis 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yup, he figured out a way around that... There's another way too, the bots have the ability to add a 'tag' to anything, which they can use to help make decisions, So he could change it to, move to the closest resource that is tagged by me, then if nothing is tagged by me, tag the resource furthest away. This way it will still pick the resource furthest away but won't change targets later as it gets closer.

  • @TheEvolNemesis
    @TheEvolNemesis 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can really make them a lot more effective by changing it so instead of 'flee from the closest enemy' when their shields are low, they 'flee from all enemies attacking me'. This way, they will still start backing off when their shields get low, but the second the enemy stops going for them and focuses on someone else, nobody will be attacking them any more, so they'll stop retreating and go right back on the attack while their shields regenerate. Basically, during a fight, anyone who gets low shields will just step back a tiny bit, let the enemy focus someone closer, and then they'll be safe to go right back to ripping into them. You can also do stuff to make your bots focus fire when they fight so you take the enemy bots down faster (lots of ways to do that).

      Looks alot like node based programming.

    • @PeriOfTheGee
      @PeriOfTheGee 6 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      I mean, it is. This is just a visual way to code which loks easy, but in reality is way harder because it limits your possibilities.

    • @matek9975
      @matek9975 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      it's not about only knowing what to write or what to drag, you need right mindset for it is what i meant

    • @PeriOfTheGee
      @PeriOfTheGee 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      is called practice. The longer you will do it, the more you will acquire this kind of a mindset. Just in general, have fun coding! Found a bug that destroys your intended way of doing something? great, make a whole project based around it! The mindset I have while coding is just do whatever in as funky way as you like, if it works in the end, all that matters is that you had fun experimenting, and the experimenting makes you remember ways to do things which in turn speed up the whole process next time you code. And hey, maybe you will find something you didnt know about? If you want to get into coding, I recommend JavaScript because its a really easy and fun language and it allows for so much freedom. Not only that, you also get to never do graphics if you dont want bc web browsers use JS! Try W3Schools, they have a great interactive documentation.

    If you like programming in games you should check out inFamous 2's UGC: User Generated Content, which let's you create your own missions.
    You get the entire game map to use _(provided you've completed enough of the story to unlock the whole thing, though the "starting" quarter is still huge)_ you can set the time of day, place props like cars, fences, and trees, effects like lighting, fire and explosions wherever you like. You can place people/monsters, set them as allies or enemies to you and each other, then tell them what to do, how to react etc. You get to create cutscenes and write text dialogue. Control the spawning of general pedestrians and traffic, either city-wide or in a specific area, making the city really busy, completely empty or anything between.
    You actually place control nodes into the world to make it all work _(they're invisible during gameplay)_ and physically connect them with wires. Like connecting an 'IF ' to a 'Then' like "IF object1 is destroyed - THEN spawn object2' etc. You also get to name everything and put them all into separate groups to keep them in memorable order.

    You know, the sniper has 100% hit chance in close, mid and long range, so it will NEVER miss when shooting at an enemy that is in range. Your AI for the sniper was just flawed, causing it to shoot at the bot with lowest shield as long as ANY enemy bot is within range. In other words, if there's an enemy bot with 2% shield in range of the sniper and there's one with 0% shield out of range, the sniper will fire at the one that is out of range and miss, while it might have been able to kill the one with 2% if it had shot at that one...

      Well, to be honest, it did do for some tension building, even if it's just Jon with his infamous perception skills :D

    Sweeper AI was so useless ^^

    • @thundersoul6795
      @thundersoul6795 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Gotta disagree. It scored some convenience balls and acted as reinforcement cycle delay bait. A fairly worthwhile AI base for a team based around baiting and picking off.

    • @Classic_Frog
      @Classic_Frog 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's not the Sweeper AI that's useless, it's the shotgun platform that is unfit for the role. It can get to the ball only a tiny bit faster than others, but once it has the ball it slows down to a crawl, wasting a lot of time. And yet it's not even fast enough to steal the farthest balls away from the enemy anyway.

    • @dustroier7310
      @dustroier7310 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      All the others move at .5 speed when they carry a ball too. At least, that's what it says.

    • @Classic_Frog
      @Classic_Frog 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, you're right. I was looking at the wrong parameters. So yeah, I guess the platform was good. But still the AI program wasn't well put together.
