Wonder of wonders! Yes, I sing Bach seriously... and still.. I roared with laughter! Only the great Ustinov could pull something like this off... and still.... the Universal Bach remains... Thank you to both of them....!!!
I got pains in my tummy for a week, I laughed so much. Then I'd remember the "San Antonio" bit during the day and would have to keep hiding not to appear crying with laughter in public. Incredible how Ustinov knows Bach so well. Perfect pastiche! What a thing to pull off! Absolutely brilliant. And of course, Ustinov speaks perfect german in real life, but he sings the Bach parody as how people perceive german. Utter genious.
This had me in stitches of laughter! I perform as an amateur keyboard player, including the occasional Bach choral standards. Performing it is exactly like this, write down to his cello "fake triple stopping" and the harpsichord flourish.
So how many legitimate actors that you know that can do a standup comedy routine with such finesse? Not many, But Sir Peter is a genius and is so funny. Could not stop laughing.
I have absolutely no idea what Sir Peter is singing about... BUT it is wonderful, his comic timing, musicality and sheer joy is brilliant... I am still chuckling away and shall watch again..... :0)x
Looked up Ustinov's "Mock Mozart" (a longtime favorite of mine) on TH-cam and this came up as a suggestion. It is even funnier, I think! It was wonderful to see Sir Peter's facial expressions and body language. It takes someone with a real love of music to make such a brillaint parody.
@@telemachus53 Even in my days (I'm 82) I remember a lady asking for "Death and Sweating" from Richard Strauss in a shop in Paris. For the french speaking persons it was "Mort et Transpiration"!!!! Another ask fot the "Tales of Ofen and Bach"!!!!
@@tarnopol There was a collaboration between Dudley Moore and Peter Ustinov....firstly back in 1966 on a programme called Ustinov ad Lib.....I've never seen it, but this is what it says about the programme on IMDB 'Peter Ustinov and Dudley Moore met for the first time making this program. Their sketch, in which they play two con-men attempting to write an opera based on "Lady Chatterley's Lover", was reportedly entirely improvised. Apparently they also did something similar on a UK chat show called Parkinson, and a friend told me that this was included in a broadcast in honour of Parkinson's 50 years at the BBC this evening. Can't wait to see it!
You can't put Peter Ustinov in a drawer. You can't say he was russian. His ancestors were russian, french, german, swiss, italian and ethiopian. He was all that. That's why he never identified himself with one nation and considered himself to be a cosmopolitan.

Wonderful. I feel justified in finding Bach boring, overly serious and stereotypical, an opinion that often clashes with the uncritical categorization of genius.

Just brilliant. Peter Ustinov and Dudley Moore are very funny together improvising on the Parkinson show. Worth a watch.😂
Only Ustinov could do this. Fantastic!
genial !!quelle connaissance de Bach ,utilisation hilarante de l'Allemand ,et quel musicien!!!!
J'ajouterais qu'il a aussi une excellente connaissance des hautboïstes!

+Sally Ann Loveday a cantata in the style of Bach, "O lieber Gott, sei doch nicht bös". That means "O dear Lord, don't be angry"
Thank you Ken, for the translation.. Peter is amazing isn't he, I could watch him all evening and not get bored..
Best wishes from Wales ... ;0)x

Weltklasse😂😂😂
can you imagine one of todays so called standup comedians impersonating a Bach cantata?
chrish12345
He was a one off.
...and a so called audience of today getting the joke?
A what? A Bach cantata? What's Bach? What's a cantata?

this is great^^^^tak tak tak. thanx Peter
Fantastico !!!!!
Semplicemente geniale
I wish there'd been a collaboration among Dudley Moore, Victor Borge, Peter Ustinov, and PDQ Bach!
My thoughts (almost) exactly. Peter Schickele would have been drooling at this performance.
I find Moore and Ustinov very funny but don't find Borge funny at all, don't know why that would be.

Incredible! what a musician! And what a performer. How old is he here?
yep
Great Bach parody!
Holy shit he's good.
Sorry, what is the number of this cantata?
Bach actually was a great composer. Ustinov just makes fun of the German arrogance to abuse Bach all the time.
is that Charles Aznavour at 1:44 ?
yes . with Philippe Bouvard
Yes, of course. The great chansonier of France.
