CAN YOU GARDEN IN JULY?

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 1 ส.ค. 2024
- Hey Neighbor! Today we are talking about what you can do in the garden during July. When it gets this hot outside a lot of our plants start struggling and others have reached the end of their harvesting period, so it's okay to take a break! Get your plots prepped for fall or take a break and grow some stuff inside! Or work on processing what you've harvested this season. Mama Hoss is all about making her own supplements! Get Dirt and Let's Garden Together!

Tip on the capsule machine. Once you press your capsules together… flip the unit completely upside down and remove the machine base. Then press each capsule slightly till you feel a slight “set” or “pop” then once finished easily pressing on each capsule, flip the remaining two tray back right side up and remove as normal. This will ensure good closure and seal on your capsules to prevent oxidation/ humidity and accidental opening of the capsules.

Good evening my Hoss peeps! It's hot. Ready for fall temps.. man.
Jeff from East Tennessee. Hot!! Dry! No rain!! Using a water hose to water my 90ft. X 80ft. Garden!! Adds a lot of time in the garden but I can put the water right at base of each plant. I pay for my water so don’t want drip tap because it waters the
Whole row!!! I like to use it but not now! I use a lot of water and my bill goes from like 65 dollars to around 120 to 140 dollars! It’s ok. Not many mounths of extra use!! Garden looks good! Harvest time is kicking in for us here. Already made some bread and butter pickles! Short day onions will be my first seeded overwinter plant. Then cabbage. But not quite yet. Thanks!

Hey Greg I need some hoss tool seeds that will come up with only a half inch rain from June to the 11 of July . Ole wait we did squeeze in 0.02 teeth’s today . So I hope and Pray the Good Lorn will Bless us here in Patetown NC . Seems like everyone around us gets it but us . I don’t ever remember not getting any rain in the month of June . And with these temps my garden is one big powder puff. It’s Gods grace that what I do have is still living.

Very cool. Gotta have one of those pill things.
I'd like to see you carry plastic reflective mulch or at least review it. I tried it for the first time this year because I read that it deters white flies, and this is the first time in 4 years that I haven't had leaf curl virus! Added bonus is that the white reflective plastic has held in water and kept the soil cool in this heat wave.

Love love love it!
I’ve got to get me one of those!!!!
Looking forward to hanging out with y’all in September 🫶
I watched your program several weeks ago when first speaking about the Capsule-It. I already freeze dry baby spinach/kale to add to smoothies and thinking about how to make a daily capsule and decided to go ahead and buy the Capsule-It. So this fall, after the fall/winter garden is growing and things are down to a dull roar, I can take a few afternoons to combine spinach, kale, moringa, sweet potato, carrots and beets as a daily capsule. It's easy to grow moringa in pots, tucked away in a sunny spot and the other veg as well. With a freeze drier, it's easy to prepare the veg. In fact I freeze on trays the leaves and diced veg THEN put in freeze dryer. I find that shortens the cycle tremendously. Study up on these common veg a combined capsule is well worth it: Carrots has more Vit A and K, while Sweet potato has Copper, Vit B5 and B6, and Manganese. Both kale and spinach are super charged with nutrients kale has 2X+ vit C and spinach has more vit K, vit A, and folate (vit B9). Beets also are super charged with betaine (deep red antioxidant) folate (vit B9), manganese, potassium, iron, and vit C. Moringa may not be familiar to everyone but is super rich in many important nutrients, protein, vit B6, vit C, riboflavin and iron. So if you or others know of other veg super charged please post... Knowing I grow these veg for supplements I grow Bocking 14 comfrey solely for the leaves to fertilize these veg with deep earth minerals.
Thanks for the tips

That was such a kind, loving thing to do for your Momma ❤
Roasted beets is one of my favorite things to eat. Little Earth hearts (I always think of that scene from Dances with Wolves 😂)
Would love for you to carry ginger and longer season on carrying tumeric
Heck yeah! Just planted squash, zucchini, carrots and lettuce and another bell pepper plant. Planted corn and more cukes a week ago. Started broccoli and brussel sprout seeds. Collards later on. Zone 7.

We're zone 6, and our tomatoes are just starting to turn red. We're done pulling potatoes and onions, cucumbers are still going crazy. We need to get the corn picked, but I'm busy on other things LoL! (I see old goat up behind Sheila).
Hey yall, love your show and we enjoyed meeting yall at petals from the past last fall.
I was out this morning (trying) to water some plants and was noticing most of it was running off and away. So I get down there (get dirty, right?) and dig around and see that most of the water was just running off. The soil down in there was still dry as a bone. Obviously my soil needs more organic matter (we're in northern Alabama ). But I'd love to hear your comments on "well draining soil" vs "soil that is loose enough to take water" Thanks, and I love those knives!!

Any tips on growing bigger peppers? Seems like mine always come in smaller than seed packets say they should be. Also, I'd be interested in cucuzza seeds next year. Planted some this june and so far seems to be doing well and handling nw fl true full sun conditions.
I'm in metro Atlanta. When can I plant carrots?
Late September
Weeds are covering my area since spring would 30% vinegar kill it without any problem for planting a fall crop?
Not in McDonough ga. Going on 13 weeks only 1/8 in. Garden is dead. Watermelon died. We are selling the farm,
What brand of freeze dryer do you have?
Harvest Right
How are your Thom bunching onions doing in your extreme heat?
We pulled them back end of May. We will replant in the fall.
@@gardeningwithhoss when you say "pulled them back," does that mean the onions were pulled from the ground, and then stored inside?
@@anngahagen1370 Yes, he means pulled from the ground / harvested. Green onions are best spring and fall.
Have you tried "Jolene" tomatoes? Looking for tomatoes good for central Alabama
We have not grown them, but I think it would work great for central Alabama.
Jolene Tomato is a new, hybrid variety that produces large to extra large tomatoes on vigorous, disease-resistance plants. This variety performs exceptionally well in hot and humid climates. Jolene produces determinate plants that will produce high-yields of tomatoes in a small window.
Jolene Tomato produces beautiful, high-quality fruits with smooth shoulders and a clean blossom end. The interior of the fruits is deep, dark red with excellent flavor. This is the perfect variety for canning whole tomatoes, tomato juice, sauces, salsas and more.
Thanks! I will try them. Plus I love the name.
Do the hossinator green bells mature red?
Yes
Feed the dog? I have to find someone to milk the goats.
