Nice video… only thing I'd do differently is put an air vent at the front of the boat floor area cavity to allow air from the front to the drain plug when the boat is not in use to allow floor cavity to aerate when not in use example PVC pipe with lockup cap. Boat will always hold moisture in the floor cavity.

It does get moldy in that sump area. I often spray bleach in there to keep it fresh.

It takes some gut to go search for issues down there, wow ! Eager for the next step !

Loved this! I just started my project. As a novice, I was wondering the best way to fix. I cut out the floor yesterday. My cut out looks almost the same! Thank you for advice!

Hi Tom. Good start... I feel for you man! But I think from what I can see it is only the plywood floor. However you owe it to yourself and the future to make a good inspection of the adjacent stringers. One would assume this floor piece was added after the stringers were totally glassed so the only exposure, albeit large and significant exposure, was the underside of the plywood floor. Nonetheless check the integrity of the fore to aft stringers. That section on the starboard side looked real bad. But again it definitely seems like the lowest floor panel in the boat.
I think 3/4 inch marine ply. Fastening it in without drilling into fiber-glassed wood is key. Maybe it should be a resin-encased, tightly fitted remove-able hatch. I bet if the designer sees your video he would say that he should have made this lowest floor easily remove-able star-board. Good luck. You'll figure it out I'm sure. Motivation: Keep telling your self how much it would cost to have some do this for you. If you could find someone.
Me: This is the first place I will investigate when I get to the boat next weekend. And I am going to install two new things this year. 1. A float alarm at the low spot of the hull near the shower sump. And a "zero" water dry bilge system near the forward bilge pump between the aft cabin bunks. Another dry bilge intake at the mid bilge pump in front of the holding tank. There are some good inexpensive install videos on you tube with the water pick ups made out of scotch-brite sponges and electric outlet full covers.

What was surprising was the underside of that plywood floor wasn’t glassed over. The topside was. Had they glassed the bottom, this wouldn’t have happen. I’m trying to decide what to do with the replacement. Plain plywood and glass over the entirety of it or go pressure treated outdoor rated plywood. I plan to cover the floor in plasteak or something similar.

Tom, not sure if you have a choice or not for the color of shrink wrap at your marina but if so ask for white next year.It will be much easier on your eyes and allow a ton more light in since you're always doing winter projects onboard. Next time you're both down at Haverstraw Marina please reach out would love to say hi/have a cocktail on our boat and thank you for the content. Keep up with the amazing work!:)

You are right about the shrink wrap! I may be able to get clear as the put that on boats for sale. I haven’t seen many white shrink wrapped boats. Not sure the reason for that, but will definitely inquire. Thanks and we will surely be at the boat hopefully EVERY weekend! Lol. Stop by and say hello!

I assume you found sound plywood outside the area you removed in video, or is there more floor board removal necessary?

Certainly is. This was just the beginning, I have a follow up video in the works with the rest of the rip out and repair coming soon!

@@AdventuresofHappyOurs Sorry you have this problem. Sounds like a design flaw in the Meridian 341, (not encapsulating plywood) so I'd guess others may encounter this problem also. I still think it's a good boat and remains on my short list.

@@Brad-sb1dk it looks worse than it is and will be better than new once completed!
