As a 61 year old woman, I find I have a challenge with mixing styles and dressing the outfit up or down to make pieces more versatile. I think it's because of being raised with the mindset of having dress up clothes / play clothes / school clothes all for different purposes.

    • @NadaManley

@@jane63 I totally get that Jane! Most of us were raised this way. My encouragement would be to display with your clothes and have fun looking for combinations that you like. I'm a little older than you (64) & I know what you mean. Girls weren't even allowed to wear pants to school whenI was in grade school. And I definitely had school clothes, play clothes & church clothes. But that all changed in the 70s with Designer Jeans iirc. My mom would argue with me about wearing jeans to school when I was a teen. In her mind jeans were functionl not fashionable & something you wore to do ranch work (my family had a ranch)or to play in. I kind of love the freedom to mix & match that we have now. A tee shirt, denim jacket & sneakers with trousers or a dressy blouse with jeans. It's fun - embrace it.

Do a quick search for “levels of refinement,” by Imogen Lamport of InsideOutStyle in Australia. She’s the only fashionista I’ve seen discussing this, and it was a real 💡 moment for me.
      Level 1 = formal
      Level 2 = Nice Casual
      Level 3 = Leisure
1 and 3 do not mix well unless you are a fashion master.

I've just bought my first pair of wide leg jeans after resisting for a couple of years because to be honest I prefer straight leg or bootcut. But because I have a bit of a tummy I find them surprisingly flattering as they skim my tummy. For the same reason A-life denim skirts look better on me than pencil skirts.

Thank you for a great video! I agree with all of your tips, maybe with the exception that the personality pieces will never date; most pieces will date. It also seems contradictory to me that, on the one hand, you can style dated clothes to look modern, and on the other hand, the basics need to look modern to make the outfit look modern as a whole.
I'd love you to expand on this and show examples of how to style dated clothes to look modern!

Hi Nada, another brilliant video!🤗 We here in UK are very lucky regarding underwear, we have a little secret😉 🤫we have Marks and Spencer's (M&S) ! Virtually every British woman buys M&S bra's, underwear and sleepwear from them ☺It's a no brainer as the quality is excellent and it lasts years! I always end up there 😊In store they also do fittings, so we know what size to get and it's easy to book a fitting online with your local store, and they remind you every 6 months so you can get measured regularly.

My style is boho ethnic eclectic (my terms!) so even though I have short-ish hair, I have many pairs of long statement costume earrings that I’ve bought on overseas trips. It’s my style so they coordinate with my outfits.

I have long, thick hair & stick to studs & hoops because anything else gets tangled in my hair or you can't see them anyway. The way you described your style is very accurate to mine. I love dangly earrings but save them for when I wear my hair up. What's nice about style currently is that it is eclectic. You don't have to dress head to toe in any one aesthetic (usually if you do you look like you're wearing a costume )

  • @antoniaz

Yes, to personal style!!! No to unflattering trends.!
With the exception of nabbing some tops in burgindy, brown and army green -- MY COLOURS! -- which are supposedly on trend but still hard to find, I too am sitting out this season. Blacks and beiges, all the boring neutrals are all over town, suck the life out of my face, unless I pile on the make-up. No thanks.
That said, I don't think spending a fortune on shoes unless they're classic and/or especially flattering on you, is a great idea. Heel heights, heel shapes, toe shape, etc. change all the time. I prefer to stick in the midrange: $200 +/- $50. Comfort is paramaount but not to the point of frunpy. It's a fine line.
Bags too. Stick to simple, classic shapes, with a bit of elegant hardware, not too structured and not too slouchy. They will serve you forever. (Crossbody for the win!)
    Thanks as always,
The Hottest Shopper that follows you.

Hahaha, I've always had to spend more on a bra than a shirt since I had to go to Nordstroms or special order it. I'm an H cup now & was a D at 14. What I need right now is a good minimizer so I can wear the button up blouses & tops I just bought without having to add a snap & size up so much (then they don't fit thru the shoulders) If you're on a budget, Old Navy has a lot to offer. I have basic white tees & tanks I got there 20 yrs ago & they are still going strong. (Just wash them in Oxiclean if they look dingey or get yellow around the neck & arm holes) Their denim is thick with a high cotton content. They are size inclusive - up to sz 20 - altho you may have to order online since not all stores carry all sizes. Old Navy is a sister company to The Gap & Banana Republic but at more affordable prices. And they always have a sale going on. For me, spending more on underwear/foundational garments, coats, belts, bags & shoes (real leather only unless it's canvas or cloth) works for me. Your underwear gets washed everytime you wear it, you want it to hold up & not be uncomfortable. Faux leather cracks, peels & isn't repairable if scuffed so I usually avoid it now unless it's a very "trendy" or occassion specific piece that I won't use much or I know has a short shelf life because it's trendy.

I am only a Ddd, and I went to a fitter at a boutique. Told her I wanted a minimizer and wanted this squishy mass to go away lol. Game changer! I can wear so many more things…and they look better! So maybe try a boutique instead of Nordys?

Lots of good tips here, thanks. I disagree about earrings. For someone with very short hair, which can read masculine, a long earring with movement mimics longer hair and can be very sexy. By the same token, very long, full hair should be moved off the neck, at least on one side, for the most becoming look. Masses of hair can overwhelm the face and upper body and detract from a woman's beauty.
